    it is a beautiful dance. Southern Phillipines culture is Malay culture. I am from Indonesia.

    Igal igal dance is a traditional dance of Phillipines (south) and Malaysia (state of Sabah).

    I look at these dances as windows to the past of the colonialized groups of the Philippines. Amazing to think that the Tagalogs, Ilocanos, etc would have had dances similar to these before the Spanish wiped it all out.

      I mean, both ethnic live really close to each other and the Tausug ruling class like the Sultanate of Sulu has it's influence spread around the the Sulu archipelago for centuries so it's no surprise that they share some similarities with each other.

    Wow - the Sama word for dance 'igal' has a far-flung cognate in Balinese (spoken on the Hindu island of Bali) - 'igel', which is the low level term for 'dance'.

    Luzon&Visayas = Spanish Influence
    Mindanao = Malay Influence

      The cordillera region has no Spanish influence, they were not conquered by the Spaniards. Cordillera region is located in Luzon, northern Luzon, specifically, so Luzon and Visayas is not all Spanish influence. It is also located in Luzon the oldest Chinatown in the world, the binondo district. Visayas also has hindu-buddhist kingdoms prior to Spanish conquest
