I remember this ad when I first started to graduate school at Auburn. I talked to my mother regularly on the phone when I was down at Auburn from my home in Atlanta. I was moved by the ad then and especially now since I have lost my mother since then. I, too, wish that I could go back and call my mother and speak to her again and hear the love for me in her cultured Nashville accent.
I’ve ALWAYS LOVED this commercial but ever since my Mom passed away it has EXTRA SPECIAL meaning for me now. Rest In Peace Mom - I SURE MISS YOU. 😥😥😥🙏🙏🙏
This was a Mothers’ Day ad. Legend has it that its first airing brought down Bell’s phone system.
I miss Coach Bryant. He was a father figure to his team and he was hard but fair. The Bear was a winner. Mamma Calls.
My admiration for Bear Bryant just jumped 1000%!
So that's where nick got the commercial bug from 😂😂😂
Want to know what a legend looks like?
All I can say is, me too! RIP Ma. 😇
What a time! What a coach! No disrespect to the current dynasty, but we've been amazing over and over and over!!!!!!!
Well said by the greatest coach to ever live.
2nd
@@Breadwinner3690 2nd to who? Don't say Nick because even he admits the Bear is the greatest to EVER coach a game.
@@Breadwinner3690 I mean I love Nick Saban and I thank God he is at Alabama... I can understand people that can't remember the BEAR thinking Saban is better but I remember the BEAR very well. He was definitely a one of a kind. A huge portrait of him hangs in my living room.
@@benglett4864 nick is better it’s a harder era to win in and more competition he’s won nattys at 2 diff schools
@@Breadwinner3690 my honest opinion is this.. IF they had to play each other and they played in the BEARS time of coaching Nick would lose, but if they played in today's time Nick would win. Football was a lot more physical back then and I'm not to sure these players today could handle that style of smash mouth ball.... but the players from back then wouldn't be able to compete with the boys today as far as speed and formation.... hell the boys from the Bears team would end up with 1000 yards in penalties.... lmao
We miss you Bear
Good reminder for the holidays
Bring this commercial back during the holidays.
0:21 Yo' Mama
The GOAT
Most don't realize that back then long distance phone calls were EXPENSIVE! My mortgage on a 3br. 2 bath home was $219/month. First time my wife ran the phone bill to $300 was the LAST!
Oh, how nice it would be to have a mortgage of $219/month!
@@wvu05 That included the escrow account for paying the taxes and insurance for 1800 sq' home in Texas in 1978.
@@coletrain4106 And I ran the inflation calculator. In today's money, that's $996/month, which would still be a steal.
Yes they were. Lol.
Yep that is correct. Long distance was expensive
i miss ya ma
I remember this commercial from when I was a boy
I wish I could call my mama too she died this Tuesday
That's a relief.
Sorry to here that 😢
@Say WHAT?
Good advert.
Coach Bryant, nothing but a winner! Roll Tide Roll!!!
Greatest coach in History. He's having a great time with JESUS CHRIST. LOVE U BEAR. ❤
The Bear - nuff said
kids today don't know how expensive phone calls were back in the day. When my mom first got a TTY my dad was like "oh shit" he called the phone company asking for a special rate, explaining that TTY calls took longer than voice calls
See how simple those commercials were see how loud and obnoxious they are today definitely a different time back then
That voice! ❤
War Eagle
he said "yo mama." LoL.
The Man
My mom passed on this day in 2012 and I was brought to this video at this moment by her directive to God to call my momma. Ok need to get flowers for her monument and the weather is perfect today
I imagine this what GODS voice sounds kind of sounds like-ROLL TIDE
Im not crying😂😂😂😂
I wish I could reach out and touch my mom. She passed away last year. She was a huge fan of Alabama football, even though she isn't from Alabama. My dad is, however, and my mom was assimilated. She loved Alabama football so much, she named her two cats Bear and Nikki (after Nick Saban, but Nikki happens to be a girl, hence the spelling)
❤❤❤❤❤
Why isn't this still being played?
Because South Central Bell has been gone since the early 90's.
@@yootoob2 that would do it.
Because him and that phone company Ain't around anymore ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Wonder how much Paul “Bear” Bryant was paid to do that commercial????!!!!…I hope y’all will reply to this
I'm not living down there....😂😂😂😂
Not a joke. But I'm pretty sure this man is my relative. My mom's maiden name is Bryant.
Fortunately the boosters made sure the football players didn't have to pay the long distance fees.
Today, this man would be fired for the way he worked his players.
Were you one of them???
And do you think he was worse than Urban Meyer?
his players loved him
Ask Woody Hayes
In Those Days 🏈 Practice was more of a Military Format. With coaches & a chain of Command to the Head Coach. It was very rough 🤕 & Alot harder than today's football practices. Things have softened up over the yrs in many ways, for many reasons! But mainly for health & Safety concerns. But Lawsuits will also cause Alot changes to be made!
