I LOVE the longer videos but inn also like the shorter ones broke down because I listen to it several times and this is easier to go back and find certain topics. Thanks.

What about getting cool season grasses to grow under a tree (oak, maple, etc.)? There are no stolens or rhyzones to spread or "mother plant feeders" for cool season grasses and you typically do not use plugs either. So how do you get cool season grasses to grow up under a tree?

Really love that you are breaking down the podcasts. Great info on a topic that doesn't get much attention regarding trees. Thanks!

Allyn, you were able to answer the caller's question about growing a warm season grass under a tree or in a shady area. What would you advise for trying to grow a cool season grass (TTTF ?) under a tree or in a shady area?

same strategy - you just won;t be using the plugs. You can try seed later summer instead.

I have 2 huge sycamore trees and a large maple covering my 3500sf the lawn has been living under and around it since the late 80’s. I’m curious though am I going to run into issues by giving lots of fertilizer following your calendar on the app. I have cool season turf.

I have 5 live oak trees, I spread winter rye after the fall leaves fall and are raked, usually around November. In 2 weeks I have a beautiful thick green lawn till May. Cheap and easy and it doesn’t hurt the st aug grass

Cutting higher can help. 4inches minimum, 4.5in is better especially if its Floratam. A longer blade will be able to retrieve more sunlight. Also preventative fungacide as shady areas are more susceptible to fungus. Also not too high on nitrogen, but more focus on phosphorus for root growth and potash for overall health. Try getting a soil test. As well as try your best not stress those areas with the harsher chemicals as well. Aeration will also help with any fungus.

Hey Allyn!!! Awesome tip on grass and trees. So... under a pine tree the pH is more acidic. Does raising the Ph under a pine tree work, and if it does what would I use (that you sell) works for adjusting the pH, assuming that works. Thank you for addressing this and all you do to support my addiction to the lawn. 🌲🌲🌲

Going to try this trunk spraying method, I have a turf spot under a crepe myrtle that’s bare and hopefully my Bermuda will creep on in.

How to get grass to grow under a live oak? You don't unless it gets at least 6 hours of sun a day, so you'll need to really keep the tree pruned.

Thank you LCN! I'm in a similar situation I have a couple of Maple trees plant too close together and I will have to try this as another step. Within the last few years my area has become very thin/bald spots so I renovated that area ~500sqft with new soil, compost and overseeded it in early April. I've been attacking the soil with N-ext on the heavy side and it is looking much better with Humic12, RGS and Air-8. Once again thanks for the tips and like you say "Spray and Pray".!

I can't believe with all the lawn care nuts that watch your other channel that this channel doesn't have more subs yet. It's growing but not like I thought. This is like a classroom. Your the professor. And I'm loving it. Great content. I always learn something.
