@@stateofopportunity1286 And I *am* a liberal (by most definitions), I'm just owning my essential nature.
There's a sense of "noblesse oblige" among many liberals (I won't speak for all of us).
We don't like to talk about it, but I think a lot of us would attempt to compel or legislate that which we believe to be good, wise, or beneficial to society if we could...and we would do it with the best of intentions.
But tyranny is tyranny--whether in the name of the ruling class or the common people.
Tyranny in the name of the people is actually *more* dangerous: It's harder to spot, and its leaders really are sincere...
They honestly want to make the world a better place--they just forget that forcing the world to be "a better place" never results in anything but destruction.
(See? I think I'm wise enough to teach you, and whoever else is reading, about these things. Noblesse oblige 😛)

@@negascoot23 Modern liberalism has already embraced tyranny and abandoned the laissez-faire ideals espoused by its progenitors after the fall of Mercantilism. Now that value set is relegated to so-called "Libertarian" circles.
Socially...authoritarian speech restrictions, tribal cultural programming, employment of mob mentality, and legislation/taxation to elicit behavioral change have all been employed with draconian efficiency by liberal politicians, think tanks, and pundits. Stray too far from the Overton Window and you will find yourself on the receiving end of a rapidly deployed witch hunt, regardless of what sort of ideas you were discussing. Even crafting practical plans to address the crises liberals milk for votes will result in ostracization. After all, if one fixes a problem, like the border, one can't use it to buy votes come election time anymore.
Free-trade rhetoric has been hijacked to allow export of production and to leverage the profitability of slavery/indentured servitude against the labor capital of workers in developed countries (outsourcing). Simultaneously, trade blocs were crafted under the auspices of free trade that suppressed the sovereignty of nations under that of private corporations unattached to any particular country. Tribunals were designed to supercede laws imposed by governments, thereby turning them into population middle-management for global non-landed oligarchs. This is the ISDS and the ability of corporations to sue governments for potential lost future profits. Corporations would also be free to invert and relocate to any country in an overlapping network of trade blocs, employing the economic/media structures of loyal nations to sanction and bring to heel any government that disagreed with the plan. Liberal aristocrats enabled and facilitated this. I suppose it shouldn't be surprising that an aristocracy wouldn't share its designs with the larger populous, and that it would craft any narrative necessary to usurp the democratic systems of power.
This era is ending. We will end it.

@@stateofopportunity1286 I'm going to admit it, 90% of what you just wrote is so far beyond my ken that I don't even know if I agree or disagree😜
That's a huge problem in public discourse:
Starting or entering arguments we're completely ignorant about...but we know (or *think* we know) that the other person is on the "opposing team", therefore they are wrong by default.
And if your "enemy" is always wrong, understanding them is unimportant--all you have to do is oppose them. By any means necessary.
That's why political/philosophical/religious debates on social media almost always devolve quickly into name-calling and insults.
At which point it's no longer a matter of right or wrong, correct or incorrect, valid or invalid...
"Winning" an argument now means being so insufferably cruel and offensive that your opponent can no longer stand talking to you 😝
Point is, I barely grasp what you're saying...but I'm not going to pretend to agree with you to look smart, mount some babbling opposition that will only highlight my idiocy...
...OR just say "fuck it" and start pelting you with hate speech and vicious obscenities.
You're clearly an intelligent, thoughtful person--and my ignorance is no excuse to disrespect you.

And he knew what the world is.

@Diverse TV yes - nearly as old as George Carlin might be right now. He'd be my oldest brother's age.
these days, we pretty much have to draw cartoon pictures for people to see the solutions...It would have been nice if he was able to incorporate that into his humor
One example we saw happening way back then? China? People complaining about a communist country taking over 77% of US mortgages and debt
GEORGE COULD HAVE JOKED ABOUT THAT THEN GIVEN A LITTLE BIT OF ADVICE ON THE SIDE -use a local credit union or a local bank that's not traded on the stock market... Account holders own the bank.
Now I want you to think - if George Carlin was able to make statements back then, to guide you out of this Doom he was predicting.. imagine the impact he could have had?
I had George Carlin albums we would listen to them Friday and Saturday nights.
I'm sitting here imagining - what if he actually added solutions?
      - how he could have changed folks' minds back then - instead of us having look at the mistake in our rear view mirror while we bomb 90 miles per hour in the wrong direction
I think the rest you all in the 48 are suckers at this point. I'd rather carry 911 on my hip and deal with the bears out here than current humans that weren't born during George Carlin's era.
I just wish he had been able to lead with solutions. Cuz you know he's correct.. back then many of us already knew he was correct - and people would accuse us of wearing tin foil hats.

Other than that, Russel says a LOT of the very same things George Carlin was trying to teach people. I wish that he would credit the beginning of this 'movement' to/ with George Carlin in the late 60s, rather than pretending that he himself (Brand) is a revolutionary thinker who wants to shake up the political ennui... But whadda ya gonna do?

    • @Abrahamhamham

Groups don't form individuals. You can't be an individual if all you know is following your herd.
Why do you think girls in groups look the same? It's a natural instinct to want to belong to groups formed by people that look and act like you, but then again you should wonder if that's a good thing.
I still want to join new groups. From time to time i would join a group and hang out or whatever, but after a while i would get bored, because the people in them are all the same. Dress the same, listen to the same music, talk the same etc.
There's always an alpha that plans things, always the ones who don't say much etc. They're samples of society and it's scary sometimes how alike all groups are, when you get down to their core.
Groups almost scare me past a certain point, no matter what they are about.

Or wear your patriotism on your sleeve? Or identify so closely with one denomination of a religion that it's the first thing that comes out of your mouth at parties? All these great comedians who have taken on the role of philosopher because no one else will--George Carlin, Bill Hicks, Doug Stanhope--don't say these things just to be funny or seem edgy; they say them because there's some truth in it. Carlin was big on individualism and expression, and both get smothered and die when you give them up in order to be part of something bigger. Take these words to heart. Digest them. Look at your own life when you run those words through your head. Don't just applaud and then walk away.

Nah, it is stupid. Only because BOTH are bad. And I put more responsibility on those who do evil. So do most civil societies by the way... that’s why we prosecute criminals, not bystanders. Also, Einstein was a great scientist but not such a good human being. He estranged his sons, cast out his mentally-challenged daughter, fooled around with plenty of women, including the daughter of his second wife. So all I’m saying is, maybe he’s not the best person to talk. This quote has also been used by anti-Semites to attack Jews by saying that Nazis aren’t as dangerous as the poor, marasmus prisoners in concentration camps who didn’t do more to stop them. That’s an insane argument, I hope you agree. Do you see the fault in the quote? Both evil and apathy are bad.
