Hi Ellyse. Thank you very much for your videos about the DCL, they're so helpful, I've watched them all ! I'm still in the recruitment process (last phone interview and reference checking) and I'm praying every single day to be hired ! I always knew that I wanted to work for this company but I'm even more sure of that after having watched your videos. I really hope to be a DCL family member someday and can't wait to knowing the outcome of the recruitment process ! :) If ever you have any other tips, they're welcome ! Thank you again.

This is very helpful! I am going to work at Disney World for their college program while I am in college but I plan on working on the DCL ships for a while after I graduate. It all depends on how WDW goes. Sounds like a lot of fun. I'm going on my ninth cruise this month and will ask some cast members what it is like. Thank you for the video!

How to Simulate Being A Sailor
    1. Buy a dumpster, paint it gray inside and out, and live in it for six months.
    2. Run all the pipes and wires in your house exposed on the walls.
    3. Repaint your entire house every month.
    4. Renovate your bathroom. Build a wall across the middle of the bathtub... and move the shower head to chest level. When you take showers, make sure you turn off the water while you soap down.
    5. Put lube oil in your humidifier and set it on high.
    6. Once a week, blow compressed air up your chimney, making sure the wind carries the soot onto your neighbor’s house. Ignore his complaints.
    7. Once a month, take all major appliances apart and then reassemble them.
    8. Raise the thresholds and lower the headers of your front and back doors so that you either trip or bang your head every time you pass through them.
    9. Disassemble and inspect your lawnmower every week.
    10. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays turn your water heater temperature up to 200 degrees. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, turn the water heater off. On Saturdays and Sundays tell your family they use too much water during the week so no bathing will be allowed.
    11. Raise your bed to within 6 inches of the ceiling, so you can’t turn over without getting out and then getting back in.
    12. Sleep on the shelf in your closet. Replace the closet door with a curtain. Have your spouse whip open the curtain about 3 hours after you go to sleep, shine a flashlight in your eyes, and say “Sorry, wrong rack.”
    13. Make your family qualify to operate each appliance in your house - dishwasher operator, blender technician, etc. Re-qualify every 6 months.
    14. Have your neighbor come over each day at 0500, blow a whistle so loud Helen Keller could hear it, and shout “Reveille, reveille, all hands heave out and trice up.”
    15. Have your mother-in-law write down everything she’s going to do the following day, then have her make you stand in your back yard at 0600 while she reads it to you.
    16. Submit a request chit to your father-in-law requesting permission to leave your house before 1500.
    17. Empty all the garbage bins in your house and sweep the driveway three times a day, whether it needs it or not. (Now sweepers, sweepers, man your brooms, give the ship a clean sweep down fore and aft, empty all sh**cans over the fantail.)
    18. Have your neighbor collect all your mail for a month, read your magazines, and randomly lose every 5th item before delivering it to you.
    19. Watch no TV except for movies played in the middle of the night. Have your family vote on which movie to watch, then show a different one- the same one every night.
    20. When your children are in bed, run into their room with a megaphone shouting that your home is under attack and ordering them to their battle stations. (Now general quarters, general quarters, all hands man your battle stations.)
    21. Make your family menu a week ahead of time without consulting the pantry or refrigerator.
    22. Post a menu on the kitchen door informing your family that they are having steak for dinner. Then make them wait in line for an hour. When they finally get to the kitchen, tell them you are out of steak, but they can have dried ham or hot dogs. Repeat daily until they ignore the menu and just ask for hot dogs.
    23. Bake a cake. Prop up one side of the pan so the cake bakes unevenly. Spread icing real thick to level it off.
    24. Get up every night around midnight and have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on stale bread. (midrats)
    25. Set your alarm clock to go off at random during the night. At the alarm, jump up and dress as fast as you can, making sure to button your top shirt button and tuck your pants into your socks. Run out into the backyard and uncoil the garden hose.
    26. Every week or so, throw your cat or dog in the pool and shout “Man overboard port side!” Rate your family members on how fast they respond.
    27. Put the headphones from your stereo on your head, but don’t plug them in. Hang a paper cup around your neck on a string. Stand in front of the stove, and speak into the paper cup “Stove manned and ready.” After an hour or so, speak into the cup again “Stove secured.” Roll up the headphones and paper cup and stow them in a shoebox.
    28. Place a podium at the end of your driveway. Have your family stand at the podium for 4-hour intervals. Best done when the weather is worst. January is a good time.
    29. Next time there is a bad thunderstorm in your area, find the biggest horse you can, lay a two-inch mattress on his back, strap yourself to it then turn him loose in a dark barn for six hours, then get up and go to work.
    30. For former engineers: bring your lawn mower into the living room, and run it all day long.
    31. Make coffee using eighteen scoops of budget priced coffee grounds per pot, and allow the pot to simmer for 5 hours before drinking.
    32. Have someone under the age of ten give you a haircut with sheep shears.
    33. Sew the back pockets of your jeans on the front.
    34. Add 1/3 cup of diesel fuel to the laundry.
    35. Take hourly readings on your electric and water meters.
    36. Every couple of weeks, dress up in your best clothes and go to the scummiest part of town. Find the most run down, trashiest bar, and drink beer until you are hammered. Then walk all the way home.
    37. Lock yourself and your family in the house for six weeks. Tell them that at the end of the 6th week you are going to take them to Disney World for “liberty.” At the end of the 6th week, inform them the trip to Disney World has been canceled because they need to get ready for an inspection, and it will be another week before they can leave the house.

Thank you for all of these videos! I really want to work for DCL, this has been my dream for about 7 years now, and your videos are really interesting to watch and shed light on a lot of the aspects.
I do have a few questions, and thought maybe you would be able to answer them...
I work with children in a preschool setting, elementary school setting, and workplace setting, and have done for a few years now. I saw in the DCL job website about summer camp seasons being 3 months each, however, where I am from we do not have summer camp seasons for more than 8 weeks. How crucial is the three month period? I've been a counselor for camps before, but not nearly enough to add up to 9 months.
Do you have any ideas of how to plan my coming years to best prepare me for when I reach the age to apply?
I love working with kids of all ages, I love being isolated in the "Disney bubble", and I really do enjoy living by a strict schedule, so I feel as though this job would be a nice fit for me!
Thank you for all of these videos; it's refreshing to see unscripted videos with a real perspective! :)

    Transatlantic Cruise in September, 2016.
The first day is always an open house, where adults can visit the kids' areas. I saw the Marvel part, and the information about the training program.
I turned to a crew member (It was her first cruise) and said, "This is why I wish i were six again." She told me that they were having special adult Marvel training nights.
I beamed & said, "You're my new best friend!" She beamed. Another Crew Member said to her, "See, I told you."
Now, for the magic part: I didn't tell the CM, Maria, my name, yet, on the afternoon before the adult night, there was a personal invitation, signed by Maria, on my "door fish."
THIS is why I love Disney!
(Strangely, there were very few kids on the trip. Even the entertainers, who wanted to have kids on stage, were flummoxed.)

    Hey Ellyse! 👋
I wanted to ask you a few things if you didn't mind, just because I don't really have anyone else to ask :'D
My biggest dream is probably working in a cruise ship, I don't really care about in which position or job would I make it.
But the thing is I'd prefer to do it as "room assistant", you know, the
one who brings food from the kitchens to the cabins and provide service
for the customers in everything they need, but the thing is, I've been
researching about it and web pages usually mix this job with cleaning
and housekeeping activities in general. Once I apply for the companies,
how can I tell them that I am not applying for a cleaning job
, but for an attendant one? I don't really know the "technical" word
that I should be using to tell them about this, I thought it was "cabin
steward", but while looking for job opportunities i would always read
in the job description that one of my functions would be the room
cleaning. Is this even possible to happen or there is just strictly not a
chance for someone to get a room attending job without having to clean
    those rooms?
Oh, and also, I didn't mention that I'm still 16 years old but planning
to do this in a few years. Is there something that I actually need to
study for this job?? Maybe the STCW certificates? Or something else?
Because job descriptions usually don't include them as a requirement,
but the only thing they do require is experience.
Hope I get a repply from you dude, I really liked all of your videos! See ya!! :D

I have only watched the first 5 seconds of this video, and I'd already bet $1,000 000 that she's a Youth Activities Counselor. They have one of the easiest jobs on the ship. None of them believe they have one of the easiest jobs, but they really do. I was a Stage Tech on Disney... A 70 hour work week would've been a huge reduction compared to our 100 hour+ weeks. My body hurt so much from the manual labor that I was getting injections into my back (from the ship doctor) for the pain.

is mandatory to be bilingual? I speak Spanish and I understand English perfectly but I don't speak very well but I try. what if I don't have experience?

    • @Mergirl97
      @Mergirl97 6 лет назад

You definitely have to be very comfortable with english to work on DCL. Your interview will be entirely in english and you'll be expected to speak it primarily for both guest service and safety purposes. Spanish being your first language will really help your application process though!
