This is why you should study archaeology. You will spend a lot of time in the library, a lot of time in dig sites, discover the stargate, nuke a spaceship, bang a hot space-egyptian chick, topple one galactic overlord, topple more smaller galactic overlords, bang more space shicks, die, become a being on a higher plane of existence, be reborn, bang another hot space chick who births an OP telekinetic step daughter, die again, become a being on a higher plane of existence, AGAIN, be reborn, AGAIN, get telekinetic powers, defeat a highly advanced space cult... And I swear that even RepliCarter had a thing for him.

During the season where he was ascended however Shanks felt Daniel got a lot of interesting and positive development as a character and he then decided to accept coming back.
It is quite clear the pre-ascension Daniel and post-ascension Daniel characters have some marked differences. In many ways Daniel in season 7 and later is more like O'niell and much less of the original Daniel from the movie. They transformed him from a nerdy dweep to a wise-cracking badass.

@@Pellkot I'd say that if we exclude Tok'ras from the equation, you would be right about Goa'ulds showing care towards humans, but I've noted a couple instances where Goa'ulds actually showed care. Not necessarily towards humans, but in general.
      Let's note:
      - Bynarr towards Jolinar: He fell in love with Jolinar, which she used to escape Ne'tu. Sokar tortured him as a punishment to having let her escape.
      - Apophis towards Amon'het: It is denoted straight from the 2nd movie (so actually 1st and 2nd episode of Season 1) up until Teal'c kills Sha're. And even after, when SG-1 captures a weakened Apophis. While he was in a total delirium, Apophis said something around the lines of '' Amon'het, where are you, my love ? ''
      - Osiris, which has possessed the body of Sara: I don't know if we can count this one, but Osiris actually helped Daniel escape from an attack from Yu in a hat'ak. '' She '' said to Daniel: '' Go away ! Flee ! '' while '' she '' activated the transport rings for him to escape. In one episode she also asks Carter where Daniel is, and when Carter tells '' her '' that he is dead, '' she '' seems really confused and affected by the news flash.
So even if goa'ulds are fundamentally evil and wrong, they sometimes depict some benevolent traits.

One of the most touching moments in the entire series. It came about because of creative differences between the show runners and Michael Shanks, who believed his character was being underused in the series, especially since his character had been a major part of the original movie.
After a sixth season, where Corin Nemec filled Shanks' spot admirably, Shanks, who'd made sporadic appearances in that sixth season, came back for good in season seven.

    • @englishatheart

Corin Nemec was not a good replacement for Michael/Daniel. I will only watch the episodes during that season that Michael is in. Daniel Jackson is why I watched the show to begin with, he was the heart of it. Admittedly, the show went downhill after RDA left and was never as good with the Farscape cast, but I did continue to watch it because of Daniel.

It’s this or the scene in The Changeling when we find out what’s really going on. “I haven’t left your side Teal’c, and I’m not going to. That’s a promise”.
Or when Daniel’s addiction hits its high point and Jack says “If you’re going to shoot me do it”. Daniel breaks down and they embrace. It’s a wonderful episode about addiction.

      @kalinystazvoruna8702 6 лет назад +76

Arkalius80 - this line is, in actuality, the ending to a traditional Buddhist teaching tale and since the writers didn't include the rest of the story so it makes no sense.
The original story goes like this: There was a senior monk telling a teaching tale to a group of novices. The tale he told was this: There was a monk who had a bowl of rice which he wanted to cook for his dinner. So he took up a staff which had a lantern on the end and in the lantern was a lit candle. He walked around "looking for fire" but couldn't find any. The senior monk then remarks, "If he knew the candlelight was fire, then his meal was cooked a long time ago." The story is allegorical. The "fire" is enlightenment and the story basically says that the monk didn't have to searching for enlightenment, because he already had it.
What really irked me about TV writers in general, and not just sci fi, is that that they take things out of context, or worse, they take something and just "make shit up". Stargate was pretty good about not doing that, but they still occasionally took something out of context.
      Hope this clarifies things.

Yeah limited use did not effect Daniel too much until he did it for a while in that one episode with the crazy princess. Even then when he stayed off of it, he did recover from it's effects. I often wonder why the Goauld would design it that way when they're already evil, but then of course It was probably stolen tech, and maybe their understanding of it, though way better than Humans, was still such that they were unable to perfect it. This often led me to wonder about Ba'al; though he was still evil, he seemed to be way smarter than most of the system lords, and maybe having better tech made him more logical, even if he was still power hungry.

      @@michaelheath2866
That was just a flaw in the technology. It was based off of an Ancient device that could keep you alive despite dozens of bullet wounds after mere hours of exposure... but destroyed your mind and made you attack everything. The Sarcophagus is very much a watered-down version so it only makes you evil, but that side effect is ingrained into the technology.

It's really beautiful because Daniel, coming from a more advanced civilization and being a VERY well-educated man, knows *exactly* what "radiation* means and what he is absolutely risking. He knows what he is doing and he does it anyway, as bravely as he can and as *quickly* as he can because he knows that seconds count... not to him, but to everyone else that would die in a criticality experiment failure.
Jonas has absolutely no idea - even though he is extraordinarily smart and is a "quick study" ; ) - what is going on because it hasn't happened before - for him and his people, these are novel experiments, whatever the hypothesies are. There's only one person that *knows* what is *probably* going to happen and only one person that *knows* what needs to be done. Gotta separate the "Demon Cores".

Losing Daniel clearly hit Sam the hardest. It was like her whole world fell apart. She really had trouble with coping with losing him. When Daniel ascended, she lost part of herself. They are the two sides of the same coin. It's like she buried herself in her work so she wouldn't have to think about it. And when he came back, it was the happiest moment of her life. Sam's love for Daniel ran more deeper than she was admitting. Yes, she was in love with Jack but she was closest with Daniel. Her connection with him was the most emotionally intense than with anyone else. Daniel and Sam are soulmates in every sense of the word. They were like work wife/husband.
