In 1986, I had the good fortune to go on a safari tour around Kenya. It was a wonderful experience and one I'll never forget. Seeing all those animals in their natural environment is a real thrill. There is nothing like sitting on the veranda of a game lodge, having a cold beverage, and just watching a variety of animals do their own thing in the distance. Again thanks for sharing your adventures.
My husband and I love south Africa and visited addo and many other parks. The "garden route" drive is fabulous, the northern route is diverse and varied, Giants Castle area, epupa falls is amazing. All these locations are easy to drive to, easy to find lodging and many private parks are available. If you go to Kruger, go to the private concessions, - the main tarred park is great if you want to share your sighting with 30 other vehicles and the traffic jams that go with it. As retired nomads we have spent a great deal of time in Africa, Botswana is fabulous and expensive, Namibia is inexpensive, not crowded, and truly magnificent. Kenya is good, safety should be considered, Tanzania is vast and magnificent. Loved your series. I lived in Angola for a year, you were very very lucky, we lived a mile from work and it could take 20 minutes to 4 hours.....safety was a major concern there. I lived in Ghana, it's a shame you only had 1 day. Anyways, great to see you exploring so much, enjoy your new adventures.

Glad you enjoyed the game drive pity about the weather it would have been nice tó see Port Elizabeth too. Had a tour to South Africa from Cape Town tó Johannesburg amazing stayed in Kruger. I would suggest you take a tour there and stay in a safari lodges. Also Kenya is amazing
I live near Addo and this video was recommended to me! Really glad you got to stop by this park, I go at least once a year. It's funny that you should mention how large the Addo elephants are. They are actually smaller than the average African elephant. And the females here have no tusks. The reason why the elephants are brown is purely because of their mud baths and the calves are born grey. We did have a record breaking bull elephant quite a long time ago, Hapoor ("Bit Ear"), whose death cast you might have seen if you went to the base camp's educational centre. Tour guides used to out the car in reverse the moment they saw him. We often come across a hostile male elephant in the bush corridor after Spekboom. It's a long straight road where the elephants can't really move off easily, so when a male in musth is in the road, he will often get tunnel vision, wag his ears and start trotting in our direction. And we have to reverse allllll the way.

I love this! Last year I did a safari in Kenya and I just got back from a game drive in Tanzania - had no idea the difference between a safari and game drive - lol
We were in Addo in February! Also did a game drive. I so agree about the type of vehicle. We had the open air vehicle you had on your second experience. At Addo we saw huge buses with 50 people trying to see the wildlife. I was very glad I did not choose that option!
I did a 3-day safari in Kruger National Park in South Africa. The only of the big 5 I missed was a lion which was sad because I love big cats. The driver on my last day knew that was the only one I hadn’t seen and tried really hard to find one but no luck. I did gain a huge appreciation for elephants though!
My son's grandfather has lived in South Africa and has done several safaris and also worked in the early 60's at a national park. He recommended a couple of years ago Tangala Safari camp. Unfortunately he is no longer with us.
love these videos. been watching all of your world cruise videos thus far. how do you manage to maintain your weight when surrounded by all that lovely food? you still look the same from day 1, slimmer even. I love food and imagine that my weight would balloon. lol

Yes. We were updated on all immunizations. But we had to get yellow fever in particular. Also brought along malaria pills that we took when we were in a risk area.

We have some of the biggest car manufacturers in the southern hemisphere around here - they're probably waiting to be exported all around Africa and further abroad! (from a local who lives just 150 km inland from Port Elizabeth)

How much does this trip cost?
It was right at $70,000 each. This was for a standard balcony room. Interior rooms were much less. And suites and larger balcony rooms cost much more.
