I built one of these last month using a Pimoroni HyperPixel. Fantastic utility and so easy to set up. Only wish that it would be able to support system monitoring in Linux.
Thanks for the great video Don!
Awesome -- been meaning to build something like this with one of my old PIs. I was a little confused about the software to use, thanks for filling in the gaps.
The gui looks really cool
Cool video like always!
Thanx for this, I was looking for an opensource alternative for this.
Very Cool little build Don! Thanks for this!
*Hack till it Hertz*
Very cool man! nice video.
Nice setup and a great Pi project
For Gamers this is a improvement over having screen overlays. It much easier to setup and run.
Its a bad ass application, keep it up!
Dude you are something else man. It's like you're in my mind man. When I think it here you are doing a video on it. Boom!
I still have all my previous Pis doing mostly nothing.
Might actually give this a try as I too have a 3.5" HAT display and I'd love to see how warm my PC gets especially with both GPUs (a RX580 for Linux and a RX5700 for Windows) running at the same time.
Im looking more for the actual physical connections with the pie/mb/gpu is there a video on that?
Nice Build, but I would recommend a pci slot vertical mount so you don’t choke your 3080 against the tempered glass panel.
I know this video is older, however it helped me get it up and running on a Pi Zero W. I've tried many times to get it to stream a webcam from my local network in a widget. Do you have any pointers for this?
Great video! Is that screen compatible with RPI zero w too?
Hello and thank for for the tutorial!
I just want to know if I can connect the screen with the pi 4 model b?
Wow that is a really cool computer
You have to upside down the cpu cooler unit to avoid pump sucks air from the top of it. Coolers use to be fullfill at about 90%.
Cool little project. Is there something similar available for a linux computer? Not just htop but something customizable, that's a touch lighter than Grafana? I'd love to see a video on this as well. Thanks!
What screen capture software do you use? Both on the PC and phone? It looks to work well. Thx
Where did you find the USB pin out connector to power the RPi???
I have a question please repsond if you have time if I did this and had to restart my pc, would I have to re adjust my mini screen on the inside with stats each time, like open the “stat display program” and re drag it over or would it auto turn on when I turn on the pc
Can we get a purchase link for the MoBo to USB A cable you used?
Question would it be possible to have a group of raspberry Pi displays all synchronized
Would b nice to use the USB data as well so it doesn't have to go through the network. Though I do have some ideas to make that possible. Still uses network though, like usb to ethernet adapters.
Found Modbros limited with what you can customize on it (what you can monitor). So I set a script to auto open midori to Aida64 via the remotesensor via ip address. The problem I'm having is getting midori to run in full screen, chromium is too cpu intensive on the raspberry pi 0w. Still great video.
sir i want to ask, please reply.. from that waveshare lcd, can it run 60fps video on that little screen? thx
Awesome tutorial! I made mine following your steps. My gauges doesnt go to the left and right edges of the screen like yours does. Any way to adjust the the screen to make them fill the entire screen?
Other tutorials use aida on which you can move gauges wherever you like.
Any link or advice on the pinout? Going to go for Gigabyte B550 Vision D
dope bro gonna do this, question, why not get the screen with enclosure vs no enclosure? also, double checking, is this wirelessly displayed? where is it pug into inside to give it power? sorry i sound noobish but wanna get the facts rite so i can do this, awesome video
You mentioned an IP you got from eirler. When would we have gotten this ip. I looked thru the video and couldent find it.
hey im new to this and everytime i try to boot up on my 4 inch monitor it just flashes a blue screen. but if i hook it up to my big monitor and then swap the hdmi to the small one it works, any idea whats going on? thanks in advance
do i need an image if i have a rpi image already i tried to do those setting in the config text file when i went to save it said permission denied can you help ?
Have that display and a Pi3 in a draw, now I can use it for something :) wonder if it can monitor Macs? How is PIA for netflix I had PIA a couple of years ago and it would not let me watch none local netflix, so I canceled them, have they sorted that now?
So can you power a rasberry pi 4 and a 7" ips capacitive screen off of you usb header on your mobo by undervolting the rasberrys CPU too?
Is there anyway to, effectively, cut out the Raspberry Pi and just use this or another panel as a 2nd monitor driven via the PC's own video output and powered by USB? I'm really short on space and need a 2nd monitor and occurred to me a tiny monitor behind the glass panel of my PC (I have ideal routing for cables out the back of the PC from inside it via unused GFX card slots). Ideally 7" or 8" panel would be perfect for me to monitor social feeds whilst gaming. I'm just REALLY struggling to find something online that doesn't either run via a Raspberry Pi or just has too many features like speakers, touch screen, runs on 12v, is just ugly!
Can you power a RPI 3 b plus and it's 7" screen on a sata or molex from a pc PSU??
Anyone know where I can find the USB pin out connector ?
Do u know if there is a program for osx? I have a hackintosh
how to build 1-4 rs485 sensors monitor based on PI with relays, programmable alarms reactions and display with scales and data storage?
Version 1.9.3 patch twister os no more sound after update. pi4/8gb - great job, what should i do? Bad patch, bad. The last two upgrades was ok.
so do you have to use windows to connect to it?? could you use ubuntu or some other *nix OS??
Does this work if your pc is hardwired? My mobo doesn't have WiFi but I want this without taking an HDMI slot on my 5800x/3070
can I use the micro usb port as a power source and still undervolt?
Nice! Could you please tell what is your PSU wattage?
Absolutely LOVE this - was trying to find this solution for quite some years as I kinda got used to live display metrics when I had a Logitech G15 keyboard years ago.
My questions would be - can it run on a Pi Zero realistically and secondly could you run the USB OTG port to both power and network the device (I've done that with a zero) to forgo the need for a tertiary network?
This would simplify the config somewhat also while slightly improving security and containment as it would be within an internal mapping. Potentially running off an internal USB port with a converter cable? I see unused internal ports quite a bit on some boards.
Yup runs on pi zero w
@@NovaspiritTech what about a bog standard pi with just USB ethernet? I don't have an LCD display required for this test (unless I can get away with a tertiary one of some sort).
@@davocc2405 if you use there software you can connect to it via ip. It host its own website which rpi is used to display
@@davocc2405 in our Forum we've got some people who have done RNDIS to connect the pi with one cable to the motherboard and power it as well as get network over the cable: www.mod-bros.com/en/forum/t/using-rndis-ethernet-to-connect-raspberry-pi-zero-to-computer-network~926
my pc is connected to wifi 6 and when i try to connect the pi to the mobro app it does show til i put my pc to wifi 5. Is there a way to enable wifi on my pi4?
Can someone help me find the USB pin out connector cable? (uk)
have you considered using MOLEX/SATA to USB cable to turn the pi off when the computer is off without having to disable the power on the USB ports?
I’ve been looking for this, seems like it’s not been done before esp with moles not being common anymore
Can you do a video on driving multiple Pi's on the same power supply.
How about installing Windows 10 WOR on RPI 3 not 4?
Which raspberry Pi should I get, could someone please link me
Cannot figure out how to use text editor. Help
Can this be done on a Pi 2b as well ?
Can this show in game FPS as well?
What keyboard is that
are there another alternative for raspbian 10??
Has anyone found a monitor that'll fit in a couple of the 5.25 external case slots?
It's 2020, and we are still saying "to burn an image" :)
i can't start it in raspberry pi 4? same setting?
could i use this to put a gif on the screen instead of monitoring?
i installed all how you explain but on my screen i have "no signal"
Can this work on a raspberry pi zero?
Hey man, I have the same screen you have linked in the description but it says it won't work unless the drivers are installed. At first, I had mod bros on it and working if it was connected to my monitor, but I still have the blue uctronics screen on my 3.5inch lcd. I tried doing the commands as the modbros was booting up but it over rides it and just boots mod bros. So I wiped my SD card, and downloaded the recommended OS image and tried to install the drivers thru thr terminal, which it let me get to the end where to must reboot but when I reboot I got a solid red light on the Pi and no boot. How do I get get drivers installed ugh. Before or after modbros?
this is my query as well. Hope someone will answer that
I tried this for myself but i dont think the img file i got works, is there any chance that you could send me the file?????
Does this work with Linux?
How about a Raspberri PI Zero W since R PI 3 seems to be too much for it.
Also. If you have a screen that is connected to the R PI Zero W via the GPIO connector, how do you enable the screen to be ported via the GPIO with this software.
Yup works on pi zero w
@@NovaspiritTech Thanks for that confirmation. 😊
Do you know how to activate a GPIO only screen to work with R PI Zero W?
I have one and I plugged it in. But it does not work.
Same issue with my RPi 0 WH set up. No display over GPIO. Only works on HDMI
Hi.
I am trying this with the Pi4 and it works but I still get the lightening bolt for insufficient power, even using the undervolt commands. Is there any way round this or is the Pi4 just too demanding for a USB header plug?
acutally depends on the screen and how much power the screen draws. if possibl you can try to power the screen setperatly. i have 2 screen that are 3.5 and one draw way more power then the other
This is awesome... I have a spare zero w ... will that be enough power to run it
Yup, just boot up takes alittle longer
i saw private internet access shows Qatar server in the list...and in Qatar the site is not even accessible...
I could really use something like this for my Ubuntu 20.10 VirtualBox server (Ryzen 7 based), shame it's Windows Only.
I've tried the ip address on my desktop, laptop and phone and the request times out every time. Is anyone able to help me out here please?
Mine can't stay connected for too long. it'll occasionally connect and disconnect throughout the day and it's very annoying. =(
Nice but complicated
Why not use RainMeter? it's pretty customizable and easy to pick up.
Rainmaker would need to live on the PC only. If you could somehow push that data over to the Pi then that would be ideal. However as nice as this tutorial is. This isn't the only way to accomplish this task, as you pointed out. There are other free application that live on your PC which will push analytical data from your system to a database which would be perfect for a Pi running grafana in the case or at your desk.
anybody have a 7" or 10" screen they can recommend that can be used for this?
is the image the only thing i need on the SD card, or do i need other software before that one?
You need the modbros software downloaded and running on the pc you want to monitor. He does a great job explaining the full setup in the video.
And yes on the SD you just need to burn the image. It's pretty small, I think its 2-3gbs after installed so you can use a pretty small sdcard.
@@dabutler44 I was just making sure. The screen I bought doesn't display anything until I display the drivers fir the screen. So I was wondering if I had to install anything in order to install drivers. My SD card was faulty so my Pi3 had a red light on which I'm assuming means it's not booting. Thank you.
Oh no, you've stepped into the JAVA vs JavaScript trap: Frontend developers.... over to you();
Why didnt you use a rapsberry pi zero? It does have enough performance and it uses much less electricity than a Pi 3.
Dude Get out of my head!!! You're always making videos about topics I want to know about!
Could I use the RPi 4 with this?
Yup
How were you powering the raspberry pi within the case?
4:11
@@jyvben1520 yeah that was my bad, skipped the ad read and ended just slightly after that section.
If you don't want to tinker with under-voting the pi or taking up a usb header on the motherboard you can use a molex to micro usb cable:
thepihut.com/products/micro-usb-male-to-4-pin-molex-socket-cable-0-5m
Can you do stuff for the chrome book???
I think u can
Finally someone who is not using the military grade liar company called NordVPN, how can i give you more likes my brother?
They should really consider monitoring GNU/Linux machine as well!
Have a great week ahead and keep it up the great job
Wdym?
Could I get an FPS counter on the Dubbadhar screen?
It's not in there by default but that's not a bad idea. I'm pretty sure someone on there forums already did it
Yo dawg! I heard you like computers, so we've put a computer in your computer, so you can compute your computing!
Lol
Huh? That does not compute?
Or does it? Twice over!
@@dannywilliams6643 re-compute the compute lol
I like this better, why use the PC when you could use a raspberry pi, & still be able to use the RPi when the PC is off is number one reason I like this, it could just be showing weather, home security cams, rss/email messages & news.
HTTPS is already encrypting my data ... I don't need a VPN
You know we have gotten to the point where we can put a computer in our desktop computers. Remember when laptops where basically the size of today’s small form factor desktops?
Thank you for wearing a different Tshirt in the add, it's easier to skip.
I know this is kinda old, but you're still using it in your build I assume, ever think of adding heat sensors, pump monitor, etc to your RPi? Or how about debugging data line from your PC to the Pi? Have it give you what it is doing, & any problems during boot... will a PC do this? Maybe control video board hardware side overvolt? Now I am just guessing, but I do not want to go food shopping on a Saturday night & I'm delaying me leaving. Why can't my pets eat a can of soup? ... leaving now. btw, controlling the GPU hardware over volt would beyond SUPERCOOL! ... could it even be done?
Love the content but why so many ads. Hate it.
Why is every VPN service giving 79% discount? Its like jesus just set the normal price ffs. Also Was there not a legal case where PIA gave a customers data to the authorities after claiming that they wouldn't and cant because they dont store customer data?
the title is kind of misleading if you think what the program does: just show the data that it gets from computer. nothing else
Sup
It's ok I guess... Personally I like to run Kali and wireshark on my "sensor panel".
think aida 64 is better you only need the software and a hdmi screen much more less expensive
You are fired from my viewing list for being sponsored by a VPN.
