- This video is a full tutorial video showing in detail how to custom modify a PC case and install a custom LCD screen into your PC case.
The video explains how to measure and cut correctly when modifying your PC case, how to correctly use a Dremel to cut a specific size in your PC case.
The screen I use is manufactured by Waveshare and is a 5" LCD with an 800 x 480 resolution (Link below).
I show you how to use a Pop Rivet gun and how to cut out the correct shape in detailing your PC case.

Me: (Absolutely never gonna try) Interesting!
nice overused meme
Same😂
In my opinion the hardest part is cutting a hole and hoping it comes out squared lol
WoW beautiful, it looks amazing! Kinda feels like that side panel was made for it too. Anyway spot on job! Truly fantastic.
Thanks Alex
Thanks for this, proof of concept for me, considered doing this while also making a PSU window, now I can really see how it will work out
Great video man. So well explained and demonstrated. Instant sub!
Thanks GForce2887
Nice Job....I enjoyed watching it from start to finish.
Thanks, wasn’t sure if console players would find it of interest.
@@CraftyDoctor I play on both Console and PC...Ever since I built my own PC I've been addicted to PC Builds ....I find your channel interesting..Especially when you disassembled your Xbox One X to put on fresh thermal paste...
2 years later im using this tutorial, thank you very much
Thought I was listening to a weather forecast. Great build, thanks for sharing.
Haha
We are waiting more PC Case Modification , Cool design😄
Good detailed video. Keep up the good work
I've done this for my last 2 builds, it turned out PERFECT on both of them!
Thanks Lucas
This might be a stupid question as these screens display at such a low resolution, but do they effect performance at all? I want to do this to monitor my hardware, that’s all.
Thanks very much for showing how to do usb feed inside and out of sight. Cleans up install. If only I could figure out how to hide HDMI feed also. Best I can do my case has pull relief on right side cover. Cutting slot there and running HDMI cable back inside case is best I have figured so far.
Yeah I know it’s annoying with the GPU connection.
You got a new sub. Enjoyed watching buddy! :)
Great stuff Mikey Henry - Thanks for the sub
I always wanted to do this with the old NZXT S340 and S340 Elite cases. It has a HDMI pass through which is perfect for this mod.
Sounds great
Super late on this but when you're ready to mount the LCD to the tape don't remove all the protective plastic from the tape. Only peel 2-4mm of the plastic from 1 end of each strip and fold it aside so it hangs over the edge past the LCD. This will be enough to hold the LCD screen in place and make it much easier to get it aligned. Once you're happy with the position pull the backing plastic away and press the LCD in place.
It's harder to describe than it is to do and it makes a fussy procedure much less intimidating.
Oh that is a fantastic idea, my dude! Like a hospital corner when making your bed. Then just pull it out sideways when you have it aligned. I was gonna try this and that is a sweet idea.
Great idea!
Great video and sick mod!
Hey thanks
9years ago this was the dream back in the windows media center days ..
That’s such a clean look. I love it. Thank you for posting.
Thanks Duy Dao
Instead of cutting the case at 22:55 you could just have flipped the lcd screen upside down so the cables come out from the other side!
Then inside windows set the lcd screen to portrait (inverted).
Renan Lira glad I’m not the only one who realised 😂
Or he could have used angled connectors
@@JoeKolo same xD
On these cheap LCDs the viewing angles don't work that way. You'll get a way worse picture quality with a flipped LCD.
@@JanJanJanJanJanJanJanJanJan2 thats right
Great video and have followed although the HDMI you are using is 270 degree not a 90 degree. Not an issue just sent back the 90 to amazon and re ordered a 270. Brill video. Cheers
dope video thanks for taking the time to make it
Thanks Angelo.
This is better than Jayz's video. Awesome tutorial! Thank you very much for showing the whole process.
Thanks Alexander that means a lot, I did see Jayz’s video as well. It is frustrating some times as I made this video a while ago.
@@CraftyDoctor i would have liked to see the software side of things here. Installing it depends so much on the case etc. But a real tutorial for setting up the screen and the software would be more needed in my opinion.
@@CraftyDoctor Your video is far more DIY then his. This is an awesome tut for anyone who owns tools and knows how to use them. This is far better than Jayz video but far harder to do. Most people in apartments will not have a dremel and most definitely not a vise.
I watched entire video and i don't even own this case. Great vid!
Its amazing idea thanks for video but i want to ask you that make a video for which software are u using for all these monitorings
Thank you so much for your great idea i will try one for my desktop computer .
Fantastic video, thanks a million!
Thanks Mi55ion
Thanks for the video. Really help :)
Thanks Pedro
hi bud what a great vid well illustrated thank you for sharing, (yes l will be check the links for the bits)
Thank you Bunny Love
this is amazingly well done
Thank you Kevin - That means a lot.
Excellent Video. Top shelf
Thanks Bronco
Thanks, amazing. I though it was really hard of install
Looking into doin something similar, have the same case but not sure I'm brave enough to go this route
Amazing video!
Thanks that means a lot - It took a lot of video and editing.
perfectly usless, looks super good. I need this.
Haha indeed
For the LCD USB couldn't you use a 90 degree converter for that too?
i would have used another on the back for the hdmi. it looks wrong to me.
I'd suggest leaving some margin around the edge when cutting and drilling - come back with a file and sandpaper to get a more precise finish
Awesome video!
Thanks Marcos
Nicely Done Sir !!
Thanks Ron
Good work!
pretty nice. been meaning to do this mod for quite a while, but I don't know what to call that little screen, so I can't get it. Now I know it's a raspberry pi screen, and there's a ton if I look for one. thanks, gonna do this mod soon(tm)
Good luck Josua
Search for Elecrow 5 inch Touchscreen on Aliexpress. I also used some 90 degree angled HDMI converters from Ugreen to get the video input inside the case.
Thanks for the tutorial and it looks great in the case, really tidy job. Have the same case just a slightly different version with the front glass panel. Can I ask how you was able to display the NZXT cam software on your 5" screen. Cheers 👍
Hey Thanks - When the 5” screen is connected to the Graphics Card the PC just sees it as another screen in the same way as it would if you had a full size screen added and plugged in. So you just open the NZXT software and drag it onto the smaller screen (and maximise it if that’s how you want it to look)
@@CraftyDoctor Cheers. Thanks for that mate.
That looks so cool!
Thanks BrickFreak
Great video!
Awwwww, that widdle guy in the computer case is cute like you!!!
Haha 😂 well I’ve been called lots of things in my life but never cute.
Obrigado pelo tutorial fantástico!
gracias por tus amables palabras
@@CraftyDoctor That's portuguese not spanish hahaha but it's very similar.
Nice, needs a frame around the outside to cover the rough edges. Like a black frame that overlaps the screen just a tad
I thought so too. Actually, if he had a screen with a border like that, he could have just made the hole a little smaller, so the screen stands out much cleaner
Nice Job>>>>>>>>>>>
Thanks Wilson
I wish some Branded PC Case Manufacturer can give use Casing with LCD and Tempered Glass with LCD
saving this for later!
yap did the same...
7 month ago tho, did u tried it yet ?
@@raphaelmc2530 did you try it?
@@JJ-rl3zm no still didnt
how do you get the display to fit your screen so perfect? i cannot resize cam
Nice man
Very nice....
Çok güzel olmuş. emek veren beğeniyi hakediyor.
Hey 👋 thanks
Being one of the few people who might actually try this out of quarantine boredom, could you put a link to a case to hold the lcd screen because I don't want to drill into my PC case. Even if i was fine with it, i don't even have a dremel, drill, or pop rivet thing.
Edit: Glad to see I wasn't the only one recommended this video recently.
Hey - If you look in the description there is a link to the screen - Waveshare 5" the screen comes with a outer mounting case which you can use to mount the LCD.
can you use Motherboard HDMI for screen? My grafix card hdmi taken up to TV sconection
29:59 "everyone should have a nice clean hole"
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
ur a doctor so claps for you 👏👏👏👏👏
A crafty one at that
i have a ultrawide monitor 3440x1440 and addin this lcd panel..i will have a decrease on the èrformance/fps? thanks
Well done! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
How i can use bigger one but being externally on the disk as a second screen showing same states too ?
Just hdmi and usb ?
Superb...👍
Thanks a lot
Can you do a video on using the software to display the pc temps and fan speeds
Need the Name of the software
@@pastill9724 nzxt cam
can I use old mobile display screen for this project???
Would a mobo usb header be able of charging a 7" IPS screen and a RPI 3 b plus ?
Buenisimo, no veo que programa usas para los datos de Stat
NZXT next product releases H510 extreme with 5''LCD
thats so nice, well i realy think u can start up a business with it.
Thanks Raphael your very kind
I’d love for you to do this to my case
can use a vacuum while drilling too 👍🏼
If use tft car parking monitor still work?
verrrry noooice
Thannnnkyouu
sir i want to ask, please reply.. from that waveshare lcd, can it run 60fps video on that little screen? thx
Congrats by your video. It´s amazyng ! What app/program do you use to put this clocks on the monitor ?
Thanks - The software is CAM by NZXT
@@CraftyDoctor any cost?
Instead of drilling one of the case brackets for the hdmi you could reuse the bracket from the usb board you got since its big enough to pass the hdmi cable
Im so glad i wasnt the only one who thought this
im so sad for am the only one who can't undersant that guys what is talking about.
How do you size nzxt can to fit the screen correctly ?
how can i get some skins for a display like this ? like a sensor panel ?
Brilliant, just one question: why don’t you use a usb3 to HDMI converter instead of this cable going outside of the case?
porchet Pierre-Alexandre oh. I didn’t know you could do that. Would it still connect to the gpu. Or would it connect to the motherboard
hmmm. can you realy do that?
@@americahaws8610 it would be connected (physically) to the motherboard but I don't think the data would come from the GPU, any it my be better for gaming, it will make less load on the GPU (except if you're crazy enough to game on this screen ;) )
porchet Pierre-Alexandre when I build my pc im totally going to do this. Thanks so much ( no way I’m gaming on that lol)
That's really cool but u should have gone with a USB to HDMI converter since u brought a DVI to HDMI ✌️
Would a 7 inch screen fit there as well? i have the same case
How to program the lcd to see the measurements?
Hey do you think I could make the cuts without removing that metal side piece? I'm doing a fresh build and have already bought the screen for this mod
Same. Think you can but removing it makes for a more operatable surface. (see its 6months ago) how did you do?
@@arjanbaken2225 so I learned alot. Overall it went pretty well what I would recommend is even though you measure the screen size you have to add a few mm for the bottom ribbon cable for the screen to completely push through then I used super glue for the 4 bolt tabs and super glued it on the inside
okay thanks for the vid but one question can i put an phone screen insted like oled one or super amoled thanks
If you can find one with a HDMI I out then I do not see why not.
Instead of taking up a USB port you can get a sata power to USB and power it from your powersupply
And you didn't need to cut into the black bit you could have got a low profile cable
And I would have replaced the rivets with screws so you can take the panel off again
for a case with some NZXT stuff.. this is perfect!
The only edit I would suggest for modern day is using USB'C to save space in that rats nest.
what are the settings for the nzxt software to look like this??
Does anyone have a definitive answer as to whether these low resolution screens effect performance? I just want to run a monitor, no video or anything like that. Preferably Aida64 as the monitor software.
Where did you get the frame for the display?
when you boot it up, will it automatically display the cam software? or you will have to manually do it everytime?
im trying to do the same project but with a h710i.
Mine comes on every time unless it updates then it moves screens
Id love if you could show us the software you use on the lcd, i have cam but it does not line up properly, also every time you turn on off the screen did you have to reopen a new video file on it?
you should have a look at rainmeter , i think thats whats been used here but not 100%
EDIT: he did state it was the NZXT software he uses. But really have a look at rainmeter
he just uses it as a third monitor. the pc detects it as monitor its simple
I started with hiding the taskbar and the clock on the system tray after the release of windows 11. I then got tired of not being able to see the time so I started to look for a clock to mount above my monitor. At the same time my aio started heating up, turns out it was dirty and ended up cleaning it. Now I want an external display to see the time (never bought a clock) and the temps of my system. I think it’s funny how hiding the taskbar all led me here lol
I like your cut g
link to the fan header with 2 usbs?
Mantap 👍 besok gw coba ah :V
Yg punya channel mana ngerti cuk
I subscribed just because of your Dipper pop figure
yoo i downloaded the nzxt cam software but it really does not look like the one you have... are there any different versions? or how can i set the theme in that software?
ok nevermind i guess there is a new versin out...
Sound Jamaican everytime you say "H" 😄
Hello, how if like thermaltake view 51 casing ,where you would suggest to put the raspberry lcd?
The thermaltake 51 has a complete glass side so there is no where to hide the cabling, but if I was using that case I would probably make a custom mount so it hides the cables and sits flush against the glass inside
how can you set NZXT cam 's display like that? why mine is different
nzxt has updated cam so it no longer has full screen mode
cool that all i need he should clean bottom filter lol
bit late but new sub :)
Never to late - and thanks for subscribing.
Mind if I ask, do you have a link for an internal power supply? I prefer it to an external usb connection.
Or alternatively, could I power the screen directly from the motherboard using a 9 pin to micro usb connector?
Very nice build, but it looks like you were over thinking it mate. Looking back now I'm sure you notice some things that worked and some things that didn't work very well.
