I am german, born 1965. German police was only centraliced from 1933- 1945, and in communist East Germany from 1949- 1990. So the cars used by uniformed policemen are different companies and colours. Our police is statebased, so in older german movies/ TV shows before mid 1970s , you see policemen with blue or greygreen uniforms, in rural areas sometimes caps similar to wwll soldiers caps ( west Germany), in East Germany the uniforms had a similar color as Wehrmacht uniforms, but a slight russian touch ( See in RUclips old episodes of Polizeiruf 110, produced before 1990). But now to police cars. The police cars in Eastern Germany, see noted TV show, had been Trabant and Wartburg cars, either white, or a bright greygreen with white doors..In West Germany into 1970s you could find VW Käfer ( Beetle) as patrol car, but also Ford ( german branch), VW Passat , Audi, BMW and Mercedes, Opel ( belonging to GM) rarely to none. In 1960s, and early 1970s, when i was a child, the police cars in my semirural region had been rather dark green. In late 1970s the cars became middle green with white doors, the green colour became brighter over the years. Over the years, the police cars had become no more state owned cars, only leased cars. So the police cars became silver colouted cars, partly covered with green plastic . The plastic was removed, to sell the cars, when leasing time is over. Is currently done with silver cars and blue plastic. In early 2010s European Union decideded , police forces should use only blue uniforms and blue or white cars. On other hand, every german town or village has the right, to have a community police, mostly without firearms, basicly the descendants of former town criers, nightwatchmen, field guards, tower guards. They use mostly white cars with orange lights , where you can read Kommunaler Vollzugsdienst or Ortspolizeibehörde. But this hey have few rights and are no regular policemen!
