Seattle's Popover Pancakes Are The Best Way To Wake Up - Dining on a Dime

- Опубликовано: 9 ноя 2016
- This week on Dining on a Dime, host Lucas Peterson sets out on a rare before-noon jaunt, to sample the breakfast fare at Seattle’s Tilikum Place Cafe. Tilikim Place is known for their Dutch baby pancakes, cooked and served in individual cast iron skillets. In addition to explaining the history behind their name, Peterson tastes some Dutch babies of both the sweet and savory varieties, but is sure to top them all off with maple syrup.
This season of Dining on a Dime is brought to you by the new 2017 Toyota Corolla.

Very glad this video isn't entitled "Lucas Peterson Eats Dutch Babies" - that might upset a few people in the Netherlands...
Iain Meldrum hahaha iam from the netherlands
Iain Meldrum hahaha iam from the netherlands
Iain Meldrum hahaha iam from the netherlands
It'd be a video of Lucas yelling at you in Dutch lol
Iain Meldrum haha zou ik nooit doen hoor
It's always great to see another episode of Dining in a Dime
Charles Pascual thanks Charles
It's never mentioned but the multi camera work and editing are always so outstanding. Perfect cuts to kitchen or close ups. Love this series. Oh and Lucas is aight. 😀👍
Agreed some incredible work behind the camera!! You girls rock!!
i met lucas the other day in chinatown LA. Super nice guy
asdf NICE TO MEET YOU!!
Your description of broccoli was the most apt explanation of its culinary existence I've ever heard. Love this series, the places chosen are interesting and Lucas is perhaps the most amicable host I've ever seen on any program.
I just went here this weekend thanks to you guys! My gf and I went to Seattle for her bday and toured the restaurants you guys went to as our trip! Was great fun. Tilikum was without a doubt one of the highlights of the trip. Thank you Eater!
That's amazing! Thanks for watching, hope you had as good of a time as we did!
Lucas is an awesome host!
Jakob Eradal thanks
Buddy
Lucas getting that Toyota money lol
it's better than nick solares getting any money
youre obviously a nobody
imhellag 🤔🤑
imhellag, I saw that too
I'm fine with it. You should be allowed to have sponsors if you make quality content (which he does). As long as it's not shoved down my throat constantly for an entire video, no problemo.
I loved this episode. Dutch babies were kind of my speciality when I was a kid, especially for Mother's Day. My favorite way to serve/eat them was topped with just powdered sugar and a little lemon juice. Seeing Lucas enjoy them brought back some great memories of cooking with my family. Thanks!
Dana Kampa they're so good!
wow, I have never seen pannu outside of Michigan. Glad it's getting out of the great lakes!
Bethany Runyon Michigan you say
A bacon, leak, cheese and potato one sounds so good rn
Travis Something it's all so good
This restaurant is genuinely awesome! I went here for dinner and I loved every bite. 5/5 When I'm back in Seattle I totally want to go back.
Good on Toyota for finding such a great show to sponsor!
Lucas is the best host ever! Hit like if you agree :P
Sidhant Mahajan thanks buddy

"delicious dutch baby"
yeah, i prefer them slightly older.
zeta555 still a cannibal
zeta555 come on now
Here in the Netherlands we call pancakes, Pannenkoeken. But they're more similar to looking like French style crepes than the Pennsylvanian Dutch-German Dutch Babies. But I must say these look so much more delicious!
BlushCrumbs love the pannekoeken and poffertjes!!
So amazing! A savory one? Genius!
Boss, love the videos. Keep them comin
Been waiting for this!! Keep them coming! :D
THANK YOU for saying "all intents and purposes" instead of the malopropism. Warms my heart. Lol
Thanks for this video
thank you for featuring my home states Farmer's Market which I've been to briefly years ago but have yet to explore.
This made my mouth water! 😋😋😋
Good video! Thanks!
Daniel H thanks :)
Great job on Westworld, Lucas!

hyuneeEats yay
Well in all fairness, that is a very common thing in Sweden. It's called ungspankaka
Got to love any foodstuff with the word 'spank' in the middle of it...
Hva er det i deigen? Vanlig pannekake?
Andy yes it v delish
my favorite place for Sunday brunch 😋😋
Looks soo good..
I live fairly close to this place, and i have to say it is probably one of if not the most simply perfect restaurants in the world, It deserves a michelin star because of its simplicity and uniqueness while also being something virtually everybody everywhere could find a comforting familiarity with it, as virtually every culture everywhere has some form of a baked sweet/savory breakfast dish that is fairly universal but comes in many different shapes forms and mediums, whether its a french crepe, a southern pancake , a belgium waffle... but here in seattle, we like our breakfast foods that pair with a good cup of coffee, and thus the dutch babies of tillicum cafe are absolutely the quintessential must have dish of the pacific northwest... If that doesnt deserve a michelin star then i do not see how anything else could.. This place, will have on most sundays a line stretching four or five blocks down the road, and no less than a 3 hour wait time.. but due to it being in the heart of the city , it is an acceptable wait time as you can wander the back alleys of old town seattle and experience the true nature of my beloved metro jungle.... Pike place seems to get most if not all of the attention internationally and what not, but i believe this area of seattle is a cant miss experience, it is and always will be what I love about seattle.. while there are pockets of the city that have become exhausted with underfunding and overcrowding of people who do not care about where they're at, and while the world media has sadly tarnished my cities reputation over the chaz incident and other political issues that have harmed the city, and while the market has seemed to have taken a brutal beating over the last 15 years from the sonics leaving, to the seattle center getting overrun by undesirables causing the funding to get cut short... There is still a part of the city that is absolutely beautiful and sadly unrecognized even by some locals ... and I challenge any visitors to see for themselves why seattle at one time was the most futuristic and inspiring city in the world, and why those who come here never want to leave... There is a untold story about us washingtonians, and tillicum cafe absolutely aligns with this story , as we simply are a different type of people. And it is a different type of food experience, in a very different type of setting ... but this is my home, and you are all welcome to visit anytime, just please look both ways before you cross the street, none of us know how to drive lol
I love your channel!
SUPER COOL SEEING LUCAS IN WEST WORLD
Ira Green thanks!
Was at Tilikum a month ago. Awesome place!
FrankFantasy great!
I NEED THE RECIPE FOR THAT BATTER! Everywhere I try to find a dutch baby recipe all the pictures show a very thin batter and they end up less thick than a normal pancake, BUT HERE they're so big and I saw the batter being poured, it was substantially thicker than any dutch baby recipe I can find, and the finished dutch babies in this video is so much bigger than any pictures of dutch babies anywhere else. HOW DO?
looks delicious I want some now!
Random reviews they're really good
Ymmmmm....Dutch baby pancakes look so GOOD, next vacation, Seattle, WA! :)
You walked passed the 5 Point, which serves some of the best breakfast food I have ever had.
❤️ dutch dutch baby 🎶 and 😍 Luca! 🍳

"Broccoli is the Scottie Pippen." Where were you when Scottie needed to negotiate with Jerry Krause in the 90s?
My God those look good.
congrats on appearing in "westworld" =D
Hey Lucas.... I have to apologize to you for my earlier comment. I've been watching a lot more of your videos and I have to say I've actually gotten to like them and you as a host.
I just left seattle last month, this series has made me regret not going out to eat more.
dammit Lucas
Shoutout to the dishwashers who have to clean those cast iron pans
Yay Lucas!!
Ishaan Desai yay!
Those look a lot like the German pancakes we used to make. Just a lot more refined and... tasty.
That broccoli comment was so true
Was hoping that you would be in more of Westworld.
I'm not a fan of sweets in the morning, so I'd be all over the savory versions...especially anything with cheese. Throw in some bleu cheese or gorgonzola or brie or white cheddar...and mmmm!!!! You look especially yummy in this video, too, Lucas. ;)
A shame you never got to review the Mariposa saloon's food at Westworld
Wo!262 robot food not so good
awesomeness
I just turn on the auto play and just binge in your videos....
i want that last one with a chunky salsa
droolinggg
Sarah Luisa yeah no joke
holy shit i drive past that place all the time.. glad i found this video.
I love those, except that being a type II diabetic, those really send my Blood Sugar up! I can have one once in a while but not as an everyday breakfast choice! Same thing with pancakes too! They are just so good!
George Semel they are very good!
I LIKE!
Thank you for explaining the origin. It's like you knew my inquisitive mind was about to Google the origin.
Your german pronounciation is quite good !
im into the savory one!
never had that. wonder if its any good?
Put more of Lucas please
Mario F. Every Tuesday!
I'll buy a Toyota if it keeps Lucas making these.
Lucas reminds me of the guy with glasses in "America Test Kitchen" ... The older episodes

LUCAS, I DIDN'T KNOW YOU WERE AN ACTOR, I INSTANTLY NOTICED YOU AS THE BOSS IN NEW GIRL
andrew nguyen haha it me
Panera Bread makes them too.
Nusty IV yo these are better tho
so it's kinda like a soufflé?
It's not as creamy as a soufflé on the inside, it has more of dense wet cake texture. Thanks for watching!
yorkshire pudding
Have you ever made or had a soufflé?
I am assuming No, or else you wouldn't be asking this question.
holy shit bro cool off. its just a question lol. not that serious.
this guy... brunoise me a shallot perfect no shitty uneven bits in under 1 minute and we'll talk. lol
I was about to shit on this because it doesn't look Dutch at all but then you explained it was Deutsch.
You should try our minipancakes though Lucas. They're called "Poffertjes". I think you'll like "Stroopwafels" as well.
Dennis Brugman yo I'm all about poffertjes and stroopwafels and pepernoten don't even get me started
You guys need to go to Un Bien.
Lucas you got a "major Sponsor?" Food looks good, if I'm in that neck of the woods will try. Keep posting. I bid you Peace.
I suddenly want to buy a brunch toyota
The scottie pippen. Ayyyyyy

jrulall well
Scottie was not the main star.. but he was definitely a superstar Lucas. :D
looks like a big ass yorkshire pudding
TIL Broccoli is Scottie Pippen.
how could you film the show while keeping fit, so jealous
Wait, Swedish espresso bars are a thing in New York?
Sure are: www.konditori.com/our-locations/
Eater - thanks, that is pretty fun! I'm danish and I had no idea - a konditor is just a pastry chef so the name is a bit confusing, but it's cool that swedish roasting is apparantly a thing!
holy shit thats right on the block opposite where I live... T_T
Good choice for a video. Read about these things once, but they seemed more "theoretical" than real because I didn't think any North American restaurants served them.
Victor Ha I've had them at multiple places here in MN. Certainly not theoretical. My favourite breakfast food. It isn't a Seattle invention though...
Okay so maybe it's a rural thing. I've never seen them on the menu here in new York.
Oops I meant regional not rural. Poor word selection.
Victor Ha they're not just theoretical THEY REAL
That is your opinion of course, you tend to make your opinion as how things should be.
I see u Toyota.
S.F.T 👀
Its like bread and butter pudding.
blueberry lemon ricotta.
When I make these I use a 12" skillet....
French press is old tech. Both V60 and Aeropress give you better, more even extraction without the risk of grounds in the cup that French press has.
Luke Watson yeah but I like dat patina
tesbn tuyet v ngon thank
Lucas is the bomb.com
What do you mean Seattle creation? It’s been all over, especially Europe and high end US restaurants.
where does the Dutch come from? We certainly don't have these here..
#UPDATE - WATCHED THE VIDEO NEVERMIND EXPLANATION GIVEN IM IDIOT
ME LIKEEYYYY
ExopMan ME HAPPY
knew the americans are always confused about dutch and german, but their own pennsylvanian dutch are actually german? damn, that's taking the confusion to a next level
Looks like a quiche sorta?
Was this guy in westworld?

Pfannkuchen = fun-kuh-hern :)
