    I remember being on a US Airways A321 once and man! The only time I knew when the plane had touched down was when I hear the reverse-thrusts. That was definitely not an auto-land. US Air pilots really do know how to land planes!

    I flew on a USAIRWAYS Boeing 767 from Philadelphia to Zurich, Switzerland back in 2012. It was raining so the runway was wet. Those pilots landed that plane like a feather!

    Very nice! And the A319 is particularly difficult to land smoothly because it has a tendency to 'float' if you over flare - this pilot obviously knew his aircraft very well :)

    The autoland on the A320 series produces a real cruncher generally. Given the good weather conditions in terms of visibility, as well as the soft landing, this was definitely hand flown.

    I'm flying on a US Airways Airbus 319 in 2 weeks. It'll be my first A319 flight! Would you recommend the Sony HDR-XR150 as a camcorder? I want to film the landings and takeoffs.

      That's actually quite an old camcorder; I'm pretty sure it's discontinued. Head over to Best Buy and see if any customers have returned camcorders. Best buy usually sells some really nice camcorders for cheap prices if they've been returned.

    I think you have autoland and approach mode mixed up. Autoland is in regards to the actual landing. Approach mode is the autopilot intercepting and tracking the ILS inbound. And yes, autoland does touch down the aircraft, however, it wasn't used in this situation.

    I've experienced some very soft landings on the Airbus aircraft. I've heard from a few pilots that Airbus aircraft are easier to fly than Boeing aircraft, hence the soft landings.

    • @HDIGamingHDI
      @HDIGamingHDI 10 лет назад

      Do you mean autoland? Practically every airliner landing is an ILS approach but the pilots disengage autopilot at about 1000-2000 feet depending on the weather and fly it in manually.

    • @JellyDood96
      @JellyDood96 10 лет назад

      This is clearly not an autoland, nor disengaging autopilot 1000-2000 ft, you can see the pilot compensating for wind a while back, not so low

    • @codzomz
      @codzomz 9 лет назад +2

      +JackAviation “JandTaviation” TommyAviation okay... Airline pilot here... If it's visual... I can disconnect whenever the hell I want... If it's an ILS, SOP guidelines mandate it be flown by the autopilot until runway confirmed insight and landing is assured... This was visual, he could have disconnected at 5000' for all he cares, just so long as the runways in sight...

  • @mario737ify
    @mario737ify 12 лет назад

    Maybe we shouldn't start an arguement about whether this was done visually or not... right? ;) SO lets end this conversation here and go our own way, after all the pilots did do an fantastic job...

    • @flapsnslats

      Jacob Rhyne's Channel Even with the pilot's longer flare, he had plenty of runway. I don't think the braking was especially hard, but every flight is a little different.
