Great video Rich ,I bought a Monport 20 watt fiber because of you and your videos i started watching your Lightburn videos when i got my first diode laser you helped me so much learning it and i moved up to a fiber and knew most everything i needed to get me up and going on the fiber. Thanks a Million !
Well Done, Rich. I purchased your Monport 20w and look forward to more of your easy to understand creative projects. I am so excited to use it for projects not really suited to my diode laser. Thanks
Even if you did get it for free, who cares!?!? You put in the time and then share your knowledge. The rest of us then can make an informed decision and learn how to squeeze out performance from your experience. I bought my 20w fiber years ago blind. There were hardly any videos and a lot less laser companies. Due to health, I haven't lasered in about 2 years. Trying to jump back in and I'm amazed at how much more information and equipment is out there. That's because of people like you and companies getting their products out there. My first couple projects are better than what I was doing before the unplanned break. That's thanks to people like you. Before I end my rant let me reiterate. Who cares who gets what for free! Quit being jealous and instead be thankful that there is help out there and companies are willing to help those that are helping the community. Rant over. 🤣
Thanks Rich. I purchased the Monport 30W Fiber because they were the best at price and quality. Still learning and Yes, trial and error is the best way to dial in these machines. Even the same lens may be slightly different. Besides I enjoy the experience of figuring out the best settings for my machine. Keep up the inspiration.
totally agree with you get your machine and have fun running it and start printing straight away its how I started 5 years ago in 3D printing now I consider myself an expert I am getting a laser soon but every time you bring out a new video the laser gets better and better every time lol have a good one
yet another great video rich... always very clear and precise instructions and you don't need to explain if you paid for the machines some people just need to be negative which is sad but that's the world we live in i guess keep up the good work and making great videos for everyone to learn.
Thanks I was thinking the same thing I can cut a hole and print a flange of course I was checking online and there are some offerings but super expensive and very low scfm through 1/4” tubing on a vacuum pump. Seems weak compared to a standard shop vac Thanks again!!
Hey Hobby guy. You're awesome first of all. Explained things well. Can the 20w fiver laser do an engraving on leather or faux leather and make it look cleaner than regular diode laser? Can you do a sample I'd possible?
Love your work Rich from Australia. Just a quick one. I have a different raycus 20w fiber laser from EM SMART. I've been testing settings for these cards as I got a few with the machine. My business needs gold on black but I can't seem to get them (haven't tried your settings yet). Is there a certain focus point you use? My laser has an in built focus feature which differs to this laser using a focal stick.
I just use the focus I dialed in TIm. Raised the laser to the highest point and then started lowering it until it made the highest hissing sound on the metal. It's pretty easy to dial in.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Is there any place I can download your library for the different colours? I've run 5 material tests but it's just not hitting right. Thanks again!
Brilliant video, couple of questions I want to buy a fibre laser that can do detailed symbol images in copper, a bit like the intricate patterns ive seen people do on coins etc, what would be the best power / frequency laser to buy, I have been told JPT are one of the best brands as their frequency range is much broader than other makes. im thinking 30 watt or 50 watt
Good morning, very good video. But I have a question: is it finally possible to make color engravings on aluminum? If possible: WHAT IS THE MACHINE THAT DOES IT? I await a response, thank you very much.
There is a 30W Raycus fiber library available on my forum in the members only download section. That's the one I used and just tweaked it a little bit. lahobbyguy.com/bb
Hi Rich, thanks for this video. As usual very informative. I have a bunch of aluminum bracelet blanks from when I was doing punched engraving. These are not anodized aluminum blanks, and I was wondering if there is any way to engrave them. I have an OM3 with the new Comgrow 20-watt module. I've seen the marking sprays in Amazon but before I invest in that which is very expensive, I wanted the get your opinion. Thanks

I like to do tumblers, maybe plaques, an research other avenue. I'm a retired guy looking to stay busy doing hobbies. Thank you Dean
No it's not. You get colors whether you have a MOPA (JPT for instance) or a Q switched fiber like this one. The colors come from the 1064nm wavelength, frequency, speed and power. So where this laser can only get about 100 shades of six colors on the aluminum, the 100W JPT in the shop next door can get many more.
thanks for the great video yoda, im hoping to have a good christmas sales so i can order my fiber. question can i use regular lightburn or is there one for the fiber. thanks again friend as usual another fantastic vid
Yes Jim, you just buy the upgrade license key for Lightburn for Galvo! As you see in the video, that's what I'm using. You don't need to do anything but buy the license key, click Help --> License management --> Deactivate the current key and then copy and paste the new Galvo key and click activate. You won't notice any difference until you connect to the fiber laser.
No Rob. It's the speed & frequency control on the fiber laser that allows for the different colors. You can get a nice gold though if you go slow enough with max power. Gold and silver is all I have ever been able to get with the diode.
I don't understand your frequencies shown in the video. The built-in laser source cannot handle 25 kHz at all. And certainly not 85 kHz. The built-in module does 30-60 kHz. Is the laser still alive? ;-)
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Can you tell me which module is installed? Because I don't think so. Which module should be in there? There are none from Raycus that can do this.
This laser is 2 years old, so I don't have the paperwork anymore, but the numbers I quoted at the time were accurate, directly from the laser source whitepaper that came with the laser. You saw the demo in real time, so they work fine. I don't really see why it matters. If they don't make these anymore, that's pretty much the end of the story.

It's actually an annealing process Bill. And while you can get one or two colors with a diode laser, it's painfully slow and the heat build up which is needed for the annealing can damage and warp the material, especially these .02 mm cards.. You've seen me do it other videos, but the time involved doesn't make it worth it. I can run 50 jobs on the fiber in the time it takes for one with the diode.

Personally I don't care if you got the Monport machines for free or not. What I do see is that the diode lasers that you did get for free , you have given those away to your viewers. You pay your hard earned money for fiber and CO2 lasers and then do all of the work to give to others. You also give your time to teach others some of what you have learned.
Rich, I don't think it should matter how you received the machine...You always do an honest review for your viewers. I don't think that you would suggest something or give it high reviews if you didn't like it. All my 3d printer people even have the company agree to an honest review if they get it shipped for free. It is called free marketing for the companies. I could see why you were annoyed.
I appreciate that Andrew. I actually have my own set of rules for a review, with total autonomy instead of their feedback. The manufacturers of the lasers don't have any idea what I'm publishing until it's up, and no options to change anything. Several have chosen not to work with me because of that.
Continuous improvement is far better than delayed perfection!
