- Amazon has been getting a ton of emails demanding they not mess with Warhammer 40k lore and that they put Henry Cavill in charge of the 40k TV show. In the wake of GW announcing that there have always been female custodes this clearly has come as a wake up call for Amazon. But what now? Does Amazon stick with it's woke principles and create another Rings Of Power level failure? Or do they take action and create a proper Warhammer TV show at the expense of the female space marines they so desperately want? And what will Games Workshop do?

Since when does Amazon listen to fans?
They don't. Issue was resolved as "out of scope".
They have their own Kathleen Kennedy, until Jennifer Salke is there and in charge they will never stop pushing agenda, they might hide it better like in Fallout but its still there.

Everyone keeps bringing up Rings of Power as the example of the damage Amazon can do to a property, but for the sake of not letting it be forgotten I'll remind people that the Wheel of Time adaptation was just as bad.

Putting Henry in the position of managing the show is not enough.
Make them take on a role of being purely the moneybag.

They could probably cut executive positions in half if they'd hire competent executives and those execs would quit getting overinvolved in production. Execs should be focused on results, not the steps to achieve the results. That's why the whole role chain exists.

There is the hypothetical possibility that they could put Cavill in charge and make something the fans want. It is extremely small, and probably won't exist at all if the torrent of criticism against them subsides, even a little. If they believe that making the show we want is the only thing they can do right then they'll do it.

Make it a Cain show starring Cavil as Cain. I'm only halfway through the second book but the only appearance of an Astartes has been in a short story as a cameo as Cain passes out.

Yeah because when people think of 40k they think of the guard. You are as bad as Amazon is, you feel your particular interest is more important than anything else and that everything should be bent to cater to you.
An on the ship, only see fighting every ten episodes. Like BSG 05, and its got a real shot at being a proper hit. Keep it on an Imperial ship(the same sets, reused ad nauseum again, keeping it cheap), no alien make up (just some bruises and scars, maybe a demon for a few episodes), just a handful of stock outer ship glory shots, which are ridiculously cheap now. Take the 100 million and really stretch it out. Make as much out of it as possible.
Build an infrastructure to support any and all revenue the show can generate and above all else. Make it a proper 40k vehicle. They can tell every political story they want. They just have to represent it appropriately.
This could be ground breaking. But we know who we are dealing with now. They made themselves known as well as their intentions.

The World of Warhammer 40K is *HUGE* that you can make a simple series of genestealer insurrection to an epic battle of Titans, all they have to do is scale what the budget allowed and make the series efficiently.

Before the whole bud light thing, I would have said they'd push it out with all their woke nonsense. But after that, and rings of power, and now seeing the sights of the fans trained squarely on their bottom line...my money is on them canning the whole idea. If they decided to actually listen to the fans, let Caville run things, and push out a lore friendly version, it would be a financial success and win a lot of favor for Amazon taking over Netflix and Hulu for shows...but their ideology prevents them from actually making that perfectly logical decision.

Amazon will 100% ignore the feedback. The amount of people who have Prime only for the free shipping and don't care about the streaming side is orders of magnitude higher than the amount of 40k fans.
i wouldn't say it's 100% considering how much money they spent on Rings of Power and how bad that went. They might not want to sink another large budget when there are already warning signs. If it's another flop, they would have to explain to their investors why they decided to lose money when they had all the feedback not to do so. Tough sell with possible real financial and legal consequences.

You making assumptions that cater to your feelings isn't the lore being nuked. You literally have to jump to conclusions and then go along with the gaslighting that characters making stupid decisions because they don't know the whole story is somehow the same as lore issues. People have made videos saying that they are going to show all the lore breaks and then mumble about lore for 3 minutes and then go on for 2 hours about how stupid the characters choices are and they know they are stupid because they know the outcome. You can tear apart any decisions if you know everything that happened and have 20/20 hindsight.

its a 7 as a generic show but a 3 as a fallout show. its obvious the old school fallout fans disliked it, it had Todd "lore butcher" Howard as a consultant.

This may be an overly cynical take, but I feel that Amazon is FAR too woke of a company to produce a faithful portrayal of 40k, no matter what. So in my opinion, best case scenario - They get cold feet and back out before it's too late. Worst case scenario - They shovel out a pile of woke garbage like Rings of power, and when the torches and pitch forks come out, they'll point the finger at either GW or Cavill, or both.
Its a realistic take.

worst part about this is. Ya Warhammer in general isn't really doing that well. Their Minis are not being sold due to 3d printing being Drastically cheaper. People in general do not like the way their handling 10th edition. As they did a very poor job at balancing it. where certain fractions are Drastically better then others. Combine with the fact that warhammer video games are not really that common. Sure you got total war and space marine. But ehh anyone hear talking about battlefleet gothic, Rouge trader, Deathwing, mechanicus? No these games just didn't have the staying power to be anything more then a one off.
Warhammer as a franchise is not really that popular. it was kept alive by a dedicated fan base and high prices. where in all honesty their making 10 to 20 times the amount back per model. as in all honesty games workshop probably only spends like 50 to 60 cents on a model pack. as in the end its only just cheep plastic and some paper.

I'm a big Fallout fan and I ddin't even bother to watch the tv show. Hollywood apathy sat in 5 years ago. That's all I can say on this topic.

This is something I never once understood. They are trying to appeal to an extremely niche group, but not only that, an extremely niche group that isn't even their main consumer of this product, and never has been. This makes absolutely zero business sense as it only serves to hurt them financially.
Odd that the person asks for it to be lore accurate and mentions the Witcher as an example of screwing the lore, but then proceeds to mention Fallout as being an example of something good. Fallout screwed the lore too.

I think that biased Community managers and such are a much bigger problem than people think. These community managers are likely to not communicate the customers concerns to management or CEO.

They only know that the characters are dumb because they have 20/20 hindsight and are too slow to understand that everybody's choices look dumb if you do a postmortem on them.

Sadly they didn’t completely mess up fallout, there was just enough of a compromise to make it watchable for the normies.
Warhammer 40k on the other hand, there are only fans that will watch it. They will either scrap it and GW will have to back track so hard while losing millions in the process to fix their mistake. Or (least likely) Amazon will cave, GW will take a minor hit while fixing back up the lore while losing not much money. Because if Amazon runs the woke garbage version, both them and GW will take a massive hit.
The people that want to inject the politics into our game have never played a game they never read a novel or bought a codex. They will never spend a dime on it after they destroy it

The executives get bonuses based on DEI initiatives, until you get rid of that they will always be motivated to destroy everything. It's going to take a law being passed to stop companies enacting bonus structures that conflict with maximising shareholder return.

I just suffered through reading the Forces of Fantasy army book for the Old World, where I discovered that GW rewrote existing lore to have female Bretonnian knights and men-at-arms.
You can complain about Amazon demanding lore changes for inclusivity sake all you want, but it is clear GW is a fully willing accomplice in this matter.
to be fair in a grim world like warhammer fantasy you need all hands on deck to fight the forces of evil etc so women getting i to the ranks of the knights and men at arms is a thing in practical sense.

More inclusive... we are talking about the most extreme conservative faction that has made laws to enforce social distinctions. The faction that refuses to use modern arms as it conflicts with their view of how society should work. The faction that in previous lore had made it a crime for women to dress like men. The faction which stated in the Fantasy Roleplay that Bretonnian noble women should obey their father before marriage, and their husband after marriage. The faction that refuses to elevate capable but common-born fighters to knighthood to keep it very exclusive.
And yet somehow now Bretonnians are enlightened and inclusive enough to let the gender with a third less muscle mass and lung volume to become its elite warriors?
This has nothing to do with in-universe practicality, but everything with GW forcing social justice into the setting.

Tye worst part is how easily they could make it "woke" and still make something us 40K fans will like. All they have to do is look at the lore for a minute and they're guaranteed to find a way to do whatever they want in a pore accurate way. They want female Astartes? Use Sororitas. They want female custodes? Use Sisters of Silence. They want Astartes that aren't white? There's dozens of chapters that aren't white and if they need to make them multi-cultural, use the Death Watch. Honestly it might just be me but that would make me like it more because it would show they actually went through the effort to find this lore and implement it.
Here's my prediction:
They'll make a good first season that still ticks all the DEI checkboxes. Probably something about the Imperial Guard, Sisters of Battle, or following an OC Inquisitor with a suspiciously diverse retinue. Custodes/Space Marines will be hinted at during the season, and there will be a reveal in the final episode.
What I'm not sure about is how far down the DEI rabbit hole they'll go with the reveal... On one hand, they *could* just reveal a Custodes/Space Marine in armor without a face reveal, and then in the *next* season reveal that (to everyone's shock) it was a *female* Custodes/ Space Marine! Maybe at the beginning of the season, maybe in the middle, maybe not until the *end* of the season.
Either way, they'll take a massive dump all over the lore in the process, and claim everyone who doesn't like it is a bigot.
Most critically, they'll put Henry Cavill in an important *sounding* role, let him say his piece, then completely ignore him. That way, when everything goes wrong, they'll still have a convenient fall guy to blame.
... Damn it, I really can already see it now....
If they are going to do that they won't wait until the second season.
@@thomgizziz Only reason they might wait is because they'll scare off the WH40K fans right away, and get poor ratings for the first season.
If they get a good *first* season though, then they can push it to the normies and say "Hey! This show is good! Even the fans like it!" and have the fans back it up. At which point they can insert as much DEI as they wish, and call everyone bigots if they dislike the second season onwards.
To make it clear, a Sev-3 can be closed without proper explanation or any real resolution. Amazon standard SLA ticketing policy doesn't require any accountability on any ticket that isn't a Sev-1 or Sev-2. This being a Sev-3 doesn't matter. It doesn't guarantee any kind of actual attention or response.
