British Pedal Car Championships - 100-mile Endurance Race 2017

- The British Pedal Car Championship is a seven (7) round race series spread across England from late March to late September.
The races are run on a variety of tracks and in a variety of formats, from 45-minute sprints to a 24-hour race at Shenington in Oxfordshire. This meeting was the annual 100-mile endurance race on a go-kart track, which measured 525 metres.
A Pedal Car is an HPV (Human Powered Vehicle) with up to four wheels - most HPV’s have only two or three. Cars are generally designed and built by some or all of those in the racing teams.
13 teams of four competed in this round 6 meeting: 100-mile endurance race.
Conditions were miserable - the rain started just minutes before the race was due to begin (11am) and continued throughout much of the endurance race.
Last year’s winners No 2 “Apollo racing” were in pole position with team No 42 “Royce Three” and No 3 “Royce Two” next to them on the grid.
But it was defending Champion “Apollo racing” car number 2 that dominated the race. Their only real problem was their overzealous drivers occasionally spinning on the wet track in the eagerness to get pass slower cars.
In the end, it was a victory for “Apollo racing” no 2 and 25 points towards the British Championships.
It's a very good exercise at the same time having fun without any smoke and sounds pollution. Nice 1
As a recumbent bike rider already. I would love to pedal one of these rigs. Even make one for use as a commuter vehicle. Looks like alot of fun.

Hello, are three wheeled ones allowed in these races? Is it mandatory to have open wheels?
I have a three wheeler and a Quatrevelo my. Velomobiel is fast in a straight line with small curves too fast the inside wheel lifts off the ground. In my Quatrevelo is feel stable in the curve and turns, I don’t fear rolling over as I do on my trike.
@@TANOCA17 you’re have to go look at other RUclips rs channels try Key word Velomobiel or Snoek Velomobiel the Snoek model is winning races you might be able to learn from watching other channels there a guy in London who races A Snoek and has video on Quatrevelo models.
It will be the ideal Vehicle for Towntraffic. I am meaning it will be so in furture as an E bike. The littel Accu can be loud at hom by night.

Rob Fulford: It would be nice to have such a great racing series here in Germany. The British and Italians do it in a serious and sporty kind of way. In France it's celebrated more as a funny event with funny paper mache' fairings. Not to forget the Australians with their (three wheeled) racing competitions. Only the Germans have nothing of this sort of sport. When I watch those racing videos, I want ot build my own Apollo lookalike pedal car. At least for hauling my groceries in the back of the cart, if nobody else wants to race :)
K Lue we do have some European teams attend our races. We have our friends in Belgium and Italy who have raced at out 24 hour races recently. Perhaps muster up a team and come and join us....?
Maybe, just maybe, we can start one in the US. I would love to do this, if even just for one afternoon once a month. I would love to see these going superfast downhill windy mountain roads in a pack, like pedal car meats nascar. And for sure would make a full body car. These look cool but Americans love their sedans and rubbin is racin, cant do that without some sturdy fenders.

A lot seem to be chloroplast, lightweight and durable so could be good :)

Given the 'drivers' comments about the ability to use only on muscle group, have people tried other configurations rather than a recumbent driver?
I could imagine if the driver were supine, they could have a more bicycle like position, but larger frontal area.
Lets put a V8 in it. 😄
