I got selected for the Redbull Soapbox Race Belgium 2017 and i'm in over my head. The whole build is a learning experience with welding, metalwork and in this video mostly woodworking.

What Wood are you using?
Its the cheapest ans thinnest (4mm) plywood they had at the store, I'm not sure but I think ist pine

Can I add a warning about your steering and a problem waiting to happen. It can pull out of your hands when a wheel hits even a small an object. Try pushing on one wheel... the whole fork and wheel will want to rotate around the axis on the chassis. Cars work by having the steering access inside the wheel which is why the rims are dish shaped. You can get round this by modifying the vertical steering axis to lean inwards at its top. Use the line it makes to point to where the tyre touches the road. Running over something then causes no twist in your steering.

Hi John, you're absolutely right! The steering was kinda wonky due to the double coupling we had to use to get the steering wheel at the right angle. I would never do this again. Thanks for the tips! I do want to make another one of these 😁

that thing must weigh a ton with all that those thick pieces of wood you guys put on the car!
The car itself weighed about 80 or 90kg, any more and we would have been disqualified :)
What was the weight restrictions. Did you make templates for future builds so you can market these in lighter materials. Wood is not cheap in Canada anymore due to fires, this looks like my Bugatti's. I would like to make one for my granddaughter's. Excellent work 👍👍👍👍🇨🇦👍👍👍
