Great review mate, totally get your point on whether to go for the bigger engine or get the 520d fully loaded, I decided on the latter! Beautiful cars, plenty of power for what you need and coming from an F11, miles ahead in terms of comfort even on the 19's with M sport!

Awe mate you just convinced me. I have seen a 530d xdrive tourer with loads of options. Was worried about it not having adaptive suspension but it is running 19s so i am going to try and go for it. Thanks paul great review. 👌👍
Great stuff, it's an epic car. I have a 530d touring in white, although its not Xdrive. Both are great though.
I would say I use the split tail gate every time I drive, used the netting only a few times. Would like rear boot seat for the kids like the e class.

Good review need to drive this car coming from a 335d xdrive F31 which ticks all the boxes food for thought.
David I currently drive a 335d xdrive F30 and in reality if you like the silky smooth 6 cylinder I'd go for the 530d as a minimum and add xdrive if you really need it 👍🏼
Although the 520d will suit most peoples needs and has decent performance for a 4 pot. 😀
Hi Paul how does the new 530d engine compare against the 335d will test tomorrow X5 50d interested to see how that goes.
David it’s very similar to the 35d engine in the 335d. Check out my review on the 530d. It feels just as capable as the 335d even with only 261bhp (265ps) but it’s far more refined and not as raw. Great engine that new B57 👍🏼

SUVs are more of an image thing as well as the high driving position.

Paul if I have to choose between a 520 touring with xdrive and a 520 without but with panoramic roof which one should I go for.. its a pre reg new same price with both same specs.. but the difference is panoramic roof vs xdrive.. I know xdrive is safer but how is the safety in the rain with the normal 520? thank u if I could get a reply asap on this would be much appreciated as heading to BMW today thanks I really appreciate it
Well i own a 530d touring and its RWD. its a very planted car TBF, its going to be it weights a fair bit.

Amazing car, drives supreme, however, I just sold mine for a Volvo V90 Cross Country Ocean Race D5 Polestar. I can honestly say the Volvo runs rings around the BMW for build quality. The BMW was very susceptible to side winds at 70 mph +, the doors also felt very tinny when shutting them. The Volvo on the other hand is built for the business, it might not look as snazzy as the BMW but is heads and shoulders above it in regard to safety, build quality and the x factor. Besides, every Tom, Mom, and Dom have a beemer, quite literally
My 2008 Renault Laguna estate has a split tailgate. So while it's useful, it's hardly exclusive to premium marques.
What mpg were you actually getting? What is included in the other packages, you only explained the visibility pack? From an owners perspective the adaptive ride makes a HUGE difference. Good video though!
Thanks Ste for checking the video out. The mpg was around the mid to high 40's which is pretty respectable for a vehicle of this size. I do agree, the adaptive is great but I'm used to just M-Sport suspension so I can accept it on this car for what it is. Far softer than my 335d saloon.
I have one. I get 47mpg around town and 57mpg on a long run. Amazing for a large car.
There isn't any carbon fibre in the 5 series chassis, only the 7.
Yeah well noticed, I got slightly confused with the OKL platform, as you say the 7 series has carbon fibre.
The audio is just rubbish! I can hear the rain more than i can hear you! 😢 It's a shame, cause you are a good presenter of carviews!😊
