    Btw, I’ve run across that style water spigot….you need to pull down on the fitting that your hose connects to and the water will come out. The other outlet where the hose doesn’t connect is a vacuum breaker to prevent back flush.

    The Trailer Aid is a good way to bend your axle if you're loaded like you are. I never recommend them on heavy 5ers. I've straightened axles for people that bent their axles from using that technique.
    The 3.0 Level system will lift it no problem. I have a 45' 21k 5er and the system has no problem getting a flat tire off the ground.

    My “luckiest” breakdown was in Missouri (on a trip from Virginia to Kansas). The TST went off, but the tire had only lost like 5 pounds. There was an exit about a half mile ahead so we limped to the exit and dropped another 15 pounds of air in 5 pound bursts. As we approached the exit, we noticed the sign of a tire shop. The mechanic diagnosed the valve stem in seconds and in an hour I had four shiny new brass valve stems. Best of all: only cost me about forty bucks! Hoping you find your way back to similar good luck. Thanks for sharing!

      Oh that's awesome! We are in a new location now that has a Discount Tire, but they don't keep the metal stems on hand. So we're trying to determine if we can find the right size that we need to bring them to them, or find another option. I truly never thought this would be such an ordeal.

    One of the many reasons I like having a well-built older diesel pusher rather than towing a trailer or Fifth Wheel, which I’ve owned both is I only stopped for fuel every other travel day. And when I decide I’m through driving, I guess this is another reason lol I can just pull off and rest area and not even have to step outside of the rig. Thanks for the video. I ran into that same type of water Spicket in Blue Earth, Minnesota. You turn on the water and pull the centerpoint of that opening down and it runs the water through the valve. That is the big ring that you couldn’t fit anything into you grab the outside and pull it down.

    Sounds all too familiar 😢. Our problems happened in 8/2022, when our shepherd pulled my wife off the top step onto gravel. What we thought was a severe sprain was a broken femur. Same day we also turned too sharply and broke the rear window and the TST sensor broke the rubber valve stem. What a day in 100 degree central Texas and a small, pop 3000, town. Fortunately a tire shop stayed open to replace the stems with metal, but our trip was canceled due to my wife’s condition. As others have said, stuff happens and you need to roll with it to keep your sanity.
    Other than the surgery, we now laugh at our mistakes from that day. Good luck with your travels and keep smiling 😊

    we’re fortunate that our Rockwood came equipped from the factory with the TST tpms system, with the “internal sensors” (band-strapped inside each wheel) . Just the last 2 consecutive trips, we’ve had tire issues, requiring changes to the spare . . . but no blowouts 🙏

    On that type of spigot you have to attach your hose to the normal connection then pull the handle up. With the water coming out the bottom pull the ring down where the water is coming out and it will pressurize the hose. Those are vacuum breaker freeze protection connections. In Wisconsin at the military fam camp they put instructions on the spigots. Hope your travels get better, you guys rock.

    I have a set of metal tire stems in my truck. If you just break the bead on one side of the tire, you can squeeze the new stem in there. You won’t mess up the balancing if you don’t remove the tire. I do the same for internal TPMS sensors

  • @lancewulfers2502

    Jack by the frame, not the axle. And carry more jack then you need. We carry a 20 ton hydralic and a 6 ton for small stuff. You can use a small jack to break the bead on a tire to replace a valve stem by putting the tire under your hitch and usibg the jack to press the bead off one side of th rim.

    Your video reminded me of an issue we had years ago with our first travel trailer. The tires were pretty old when we purchased it used, so I went out and purchased 4 new Goodyear Marathon's. I knew nothing about rubber valve stems being an issue, so I never asked for metal. At 3 months one of the valve stems rotted and failed when we were 1.5 hours from home, and 5 miles from the next exit. It was 102 out that day and kind of humid. This was prior to tire pressure monitoring, so I found out about the tire going down when I saw an orange flash in my drivers side mirror. Shortly after that I flaming portion of tire flew off and landed in the center median, and we were traveling in the right lane at that time. Not only was there a piece of flaming tire in the center median, but what was left on the rim was also on fire. I quickly grabbed some water and put out the fire on the rim, but then had to cross two lanes of traffic to put out the fire from that piece of tire that flew off. It was a really hot and dry summer that year and I did not want to be responsible for starting a grass fire. I had to change the tire on the side of the highway and did it with a 4 way tire wrench, no impact wrench. Each time a semi went by I had to grab the trailer, as I thought I might get sucked into the lane of traffic. Hope you two don't cook from the heat with no power.

Bent the front axle, rear axle missed but second boulder caught the spare tire pulling it off the belly. Then the two front tires blew while we were trying to find tires. Nothing between Rocky Ford & Pueblo. We were saved in Pueblo with a small camper repair shop on the South side of town just off I25. @30:45 ROFLMAO No kidding I was 3 miles from my beach destination and literally a car pulls up beside us to tell us our wheel was literally on fire...I nodded, said thank you and went to work. This isn't my first rodeo with wheels on fire. So when you said we're 2 miles from our destination I literally laughed out loud. Not at you guys of course 😉😉 Hoping things are picking up for you guys.

    We travel with 2 large dogs…our stops take a while even if we hurry through the stop. We have an aux diesel tank that allows us to carry 90 gallons, so we can go all day or longer without truck stop to buy fuel. Our dogs don’t do well at truck stops, so we have found that hotels make great mid day stops…large usually empty parking lots with grassy spots that are usually clean. At each stop during the travel day I will usually transfer fuel from aux tank to main tank, let dogs do business and we use the camper bathroom. A 6 hour google drive day will take us at least 8 hrs…longer if traffic.
    We had same issues with valve stems…after about 5000 miles, the rubber valve stems are wore out with the monitor device attached. We had 2 fail in one weekend while traveling from TN to MT. We got 2 stems replaced (took tires off and took them to tire shop) and completed trip without TPMS.

    • @RVUntethered
      @RVUntethered  Месяц назад

      Great tips, thanks! The aux tanks are such a nice option. You don't HAVE to use it, but it's a nice thing to have.

    Valve stems got me a couple of times before i switched to metal. And i switched to the cap sensors instead of the pass-through. Thank you for sharing!

    • @RVUntethered
      @RVUntethered  Месяц назад +1

      I was thinking that if I had it to do over, I may have used the cap sensors instead. I just figured that I would get frustrated with talking them on and off, as often as I’m checking my tires. And probably would. But I wonder if that would have been a better solution for me.

    • @stuwardw
      @stuwardw Месяц назад

      @RVUntethered That was my concern as well, but I am definitely glad I made the switch. Unfortunately, the system I was using stopped working so I had no choice in getting at least a new monitor. I went with the TST 507, the new sensors are half the size and weight.

    They did. I had them done here in FL but have had great work as far away as Idaho Falls. I’m sure there are exceptions but I’ve really enjoyed their service. Found out the hard way, had two tires on the passenger side blow stems at the same time.

    I know that sound. I put steel valve stems but one leaked so I had to air up about every 100 miles. Finally put on the spare and lucky I could get to truck stop. I got stem repaired and no more problems. Yes impact n good jack makes it easier. TPMS system is well worth the money.

    Not that we want frustrating things to go wrong for other people. But it is nice to know we aren't the only people that these things happen to. Our stairs did the same thing!! But unless there was some serious editing you sure handled this stress better than us. There would have been lots of language not fit for the tube. Safe travels and we really enjoy watching!!

    • @RVUntethered
      @RVUntethered  Месяц назад

      HA! A little of both I suppose. We talked about it recently and I think that the camera helps us stay calm a bit, maybe by just talking through it. There was definitely some music overlay and editing on some of it, but I think time has helped us just 'get through it'. We are very fortunate to be able to do what we do and we try to practice being grateful. TRY is the key word here. lol.
