OMG I took a trip to the Islander at Lake Havasu and watching your nice video I realized you parked in the exact place my wife and did with our 5th wheel. How cool is that? I throughly enjoyed your video you two

Love Oatman, Went years ago. Came from Laughlin so did not go that winding road. It was 115 degress and the "coolest" place was the little caves the donkeys go in to cool down.

I rode a motorcycle back in the late 87, when I was in the Army stationed at Ft. Gordon, Augusta, GA. Had a Honda 750 4k. It was 80 degrees out. My best friend went to college at GA Tech. I rode my bike from Augusta to Atlanta (3hrs I think), had a rain storm, got soaked, stopped under over pass, then continued. I was freezing doing 65 down the interstate soaking wet. Just shows you what wind chill can do.

You have a great lakeside resort spot, albeit a bit tight to back into with your long RV - but Chad nailed it! Oatman looked like a fun touist place.

I will be a bit chatty, apologies: We are Arizonians so it's fun to watch you guys driving all the familiar roads and seeing the familiar places. Depending on what you like to see when you are driving through the country it gets pretty light on the views until you get to the river on the way to Lake Havasu. Nice work backing, anyone who has not done it has no idea how challenging it can be! Of course, April is the time to be even though you got some heat, but if you get there in July and August the temperature reaches nearly 150,000,000 degrees!
The Sidewinder Road is a blast especially on a bike for sure! Anyone who wants to visit be careful of those Burros standing in the middle of the road as you come around the bends, no joke, they will ruin your day so don't just relax and cruise through. Oatman is a place to see once, really touristy with mostly shops selling the typical touristy stuff. BEWARE of the Donkeys when you are there as you only saw a few of them. If you visit and there are little baby Donkeys, don't try and pet them because they WILL bite! They try and put a collar or something on the babies to warn you to not try and pet them. And you are not allowed to feed them unless you buy the special pellets in the shops. Pro Tip, they east so much of that it might be a waste of money so if you are clever, bring a pocket full of baby carrots and sneak them some of those. And don't visit in the summer... it is just way too hot.

Like deja vu all over again. We visited Lake Havasu City last December/January. Had a couple of meals at the Turtle Grill and dined at the same restaurant in Oatman; it was the first time I’d ever driven a segment of Route 66. We took our travel trailer to LHC but, due to winter weather/road challenges on the return trip to Reno, we’re doing an Airbnb in 2025. Thank you for a great video!

5 years ago we rented a Cruise America RV and drove all of Route 66 from CA to IL. We loved Oatman! We drove the RV along that stretch of road and it was definitely tight. We are about to hit the road full time with our 42’ 5th wheel and plan on eventually doing Route 66 again but I don’t think we will be able to take it on that stretch of road! We hope to meet you on the road someday soon.

The video trip to Oatman was really nice folks. It's a neat little trip to take now and then or further up to Laughlin if you think you got a lucky streak on. Definitely not a pleasure to be there in July, August & September due to the hot hot days and hot evenings, like 90 at 2 am !

What an excellent rough-road ride. But there was a short clip of you on an extremely rough, tight curve and I found myself leaning slightly going "Ooph! Ooph!!" We're former bikers having sold ours a year ago in favor of camping more. Well over 100,000 miles each on our various bikes. My 3rd bike, a 2003 Yamaha V-Star 650 Classic, which I had purchased new, had 70,000 on her the day she sold. Husband's final bike was a Triumph Thunderbird. It was certainly emotional days as they each sold. Ride safe.

I know you are an accomplished rider and this isn't criticism. I only mention this because it happened to me. While backing down a ramp on my 800# bike I was going a little fast so I grabbed the front brake, to no avail. The front tire is not enough to stop the bike, it just slides down the ramp, scared the bejeebers out of me. Now I leave the bike off and in first gear. Then if I need to slow it down I slip the clutch a little bit (with the front brake) and can stop the bike on the ramp. Your bike is beautiful, I would hate to see it hurt.

The road surface you showed in the video when leaving Oatman and returning to your campsite did not look like asphalt to me, it looked like a paving material called "macadam", which is a less expensive alternative to modern day asphalt and in the historical timeline of road paving materials precedes asphalt. Chad, being the "nerd" that he kinda is, may already know this and could maybe confirm that the road was indeed macadam, not asphalt. In case neither of you know, macadam consists of ground up rubber bits coated with tar, versus asphalt which is mostly mixed gravel combine with tar. Macadam is a less stable road paving material and deteriorates due to weather and use much more quickly than asphalt, which is why it's no longer very widely used in most developed countries, but is still very much in use worldwide. It was originally used for airport runways and still is in many part of the world, as it is much more stable than either a dirt surface or compacted gravel. Another difference is the macadam is usually applied directly over a compacted dirt and/or gravel surface, while asphalt is almost always applied over several layers of substrate materials. FYI, I am not an engineer of any kind, but when exploring a possible new campground earlier this summer, I drove on a road that was the usual asphalt but then turned into a road surface I was unfamiliar with before it turned into a graded and compacted gravel road and later into a dirt road. I was curious about that transitional material between asphalt and gravel, so when I got home, I looked it up and learned about macadam. I now realize that many of the roads I've driven over during my 50+ years of exploring the less visited parts of the US were of macadam construction.
