Today, forgiveness is freely given by God's grace through faith in Christ's work. Justification is by faith without works. However, a failure to rightly divide the truth and recognize Paul's apostleship keeps confessionals going in churches. Learn why confessionals need to close for the Christian complete in Christ!

I vividly remember as a catholic kid in the 60s going to confession in one of the dark little curtained confessionals one time, telling the priest my sins as per usual (we went once per month). Understand, we kids would sometimes make some sins up, such as "I lied to my parents" or "I disobeyed my parents" or "I said curse words," whether we actually had done that or not, since we felt we needed to have a bit of a list of minor sins, lol. I made the mistake of telling this priest I would TRY not to sin again, and he actually hollered at me, "What do you mean, TRY???". I was supposed to say I would not sin again. Just ridiculous. I left the catholic church at around age 30 with no regrets (I'll be 70 this year) and have been a saved Mid Acts KJ Pauline believer for years. I want to add that I was never abused and did have a good childhood, but I conclude it's impossible to learn anything but catholic doctrine from the RC church; the bible is not taken seriously. It's been 40 years since I sat through an actual mass but still have family who are catholic. (I also realize things have gotten much more liberal today in the "regular" RC church, but there is another large group of catholics who have returned to the stricter Latin rite and reject pretty much everything going on in the RC church after Pope John XXIII and all who have followed him as "Vicar of Christ."

@@vernonsteinkamp1088 Sad, isn't it? I can't help but think there are probably still the Penitentes (?) who beat themselves and have themselves tied/nailed to crosses in imitation of Christ in New Mexico (?) and in other places. Two of my grade school friends became pentecostal in our high school years. One even went to Oral Roberts University back in the day and graduated with a nursing degree. Both of them would pester me about getting saved back then, but I always thought the tongue talking was as fake as a catholic priest doing an exorcism and both actually satanic. Both these women developed cancer and made the trip to the Vatican to get the pope's blessing in person a couple years ago. Near as I know, neither one got her physical "healing" from that experience.

I just came to understand salvation in the gospel of the kingdom and the gospel of salvation by grace that was revealed to Paul. I believe in salvation by grace through faith, but now I'm confused as to how to understand the old testament when I read it. I used to look for lessons, but now I am not sure how to look at the books of Job, Psalms, Proverbs, basically the whole OT in general! Please halp

The O.T. and the Covenants are specifically to Israel.
This includes the Old Covenant and the New Covenant.
We, the Body of Christ live in an unprophesied age in which all are equal concerning salvation....Christ died for all so that all can be saved by Grace, through faith.
In other Ages it is only possible to be saved THROUGH ISRAEL....that is what makes the Age of Grace DIFFERENT from ALL OTHER AGES.

@@ginaidoma5925 Thank you for your reply. What do I do with, so to speak, scripture from OT through the four gospels, disregard them as they don't apply to me in the current dispensation? Or read it from purely a historical perspective? That's where my confusion lies.

@@MariaVazquez-du3st Grace Ambassadors does great chart lessons about the Biblical timeline from start to finish which helped me understand that better. The explaining of progressive revelation is some Justin is very good at. The context at the time the revelation from God is given and to Whom it is given and for what purpose. And like Sue said GA has verse by verse Bible book series which are extremely helpful.

Salvation is not by getting your sins forgiven.
Salvation is by believing your sins WERE FORGIVEN by the shed blood of Jesus almost 2,000 years ago.
Man loves to conflate what THEY DO in order to get sins forgiven...when it was WHAT GOD DID that forgave the whole world its' sins.
God NO LONGER IMPUTES SINS TO THE WORLD...therefore ALL ARE FORGIVEN OF ALL SINS....YET only those with the IMPUTED RIGHTEOUSNESS of Jesus Christ ARE SAVED and can go to Heaven.
