    The new Dacia Sandero Stepway is a high-riding crossover version of the regular Sandero hatchback, with improved technology and rugged looks. Every version has five seats, an array of safety features, and a range of economical petrol engines. But with a price tag starting from around £11,500, can it compete with more expensive rivals like the Ford Fiesta, Renault Clio or Skoda Fabia? Nicola Hume delivers the Carbuyer verdict.

    If you expect Bentley materials in an 8k car and complain about the plastic doors, you're a brit.

  • @robtheplod
    @robtheplod 2 года назад +21

    Often wondered why car reviewers take against plastic on doors/dashboards etc... the car is cheap. I cant ever recall getting in a car feeling the need to scratch the plastic? A car with leather interior still does the same thing as a car that has plastic - if you want to pay £20k more for that then that's fine, but those who aren't taken in by this unnecessary fluff and expense the Dacia range is good value and robust - the big brother - Duster is a great fun car that i've had for a few years and its more reliable and fun than any of my previous cars (and its 150BHP!)... Jag/Ford/Vauxhall/Seat etc... look past the badge and have a great fun car!

    I love the Dacia Sandero. So much so that I was one of the first to buy a new one here in the UK back in March 2013. If you are prepared to accept the Sandero for what it is, which is good, honest, value for money, basic transportation, it fills that remit with aplomb. If I wanted to go blasting down a twisty B road, I would buy a sports car or a hot hatch. If all you want is a hassle free way to get around, in reliable comfort, with minimal fuss, and maximum value, then I cannot recommend the Dacia Sandero highly enough.

It may not have all the refinements but what it does, it does well. It’s surprisingly nippy, easier to park and the fuel consumption is a double take! The fuel level indicator hardly moves! And I still have money in the bank. So far, I am very pleased.

She says she likes the styling (so do I actually), so that's a win. The money I save by getting her a low price runabout I can put towards something more special for me, hurrah! I'd get the top spec model though with the 100ps engine and LPG.

    You can have a Ferrari or Rolls Royce but in a traffic jam they go as fast or as slow as the other traffic including the Sandero Stepway LOL. Also, car buyer, don't forget the bi fuel is a really sensible way to go. I like ''unassuming and competent'' . Oh scrummy I could have a picnic. But I can afford some champagne as I am not paying £24,000 for a.......Ford Fiesta. ''Fantastic value for money'', you're on the money girl. The 999cc TCe engine in my pre facelift 2020 version is exactly the same as a Clio. It puts out just over 100 bhp and even in pre facelift form this car is absolutely fine and does the job. £24,000 for a Fiesta ? Makes a lot of sense. New car inflation is ridiculous: many have doubled in the last 5 years. For a mid-range compact crossover you're looking at £30K+. Would be fine if wages had gone up as well.

    I got this car with lpg or GPL and petrol. It's fricken great. Cheap to run. Loads of mod cons and compared to other cars on the road looks great. High ground clearance, I take it on rough track sometimes. Roof rack works. Took a roll of Astro turf home the other day. Been running for only three months so can't tell you about reliability yet, but so far so good. Touch wood.

    As always great review Nicola, targeted at the right audience, the folks that will buy this are likely not interested in frills and extras. Or this may be a great option with all the extras it can come with for the budget they can afford. Especially compared to others in this field. Dacia really are doing a great job with these models and are giving alot of people a fresh decent and we'll equipped option for their money, they are showing some more expensive brands how it can be done really, even the added touches to the interior to break it up are better then some more expensive Kia's or Hyundai's interiors just now.

Only thing I did find a bit annoying was if you try to pull out of a junction a bit to quick it will wheel spin until you get into second ..As they don't do a diesel turbo now I might reconsider if I want another , although the Duel fuel one sounds good..🤔 (Great cars for the money)

    Looks good, but basicly everything on that car cost extra. With the basic model the swithes for the AC is just black plasic that feels like its going to break anytime, you get steal wheels, you dont get navigation ecs ecs. I would like to see the basic Sandero tested, not the all inclusive Stepway. That would be more fare against the Fiesta. And for 11 grand you would get a much better second hand car than a brand new Sandero anyway.

    Just got ours, a Bi Fuel Stepway Comfort. Why wouldn't you go for the Bi Fuel? £17 of LPG for 204 miles on our last top up. We don't think it's noisy. In fact, we both commented on how quiet it is. The engine does have a lovely growl when you put your foot down. Dont agree about the handling either. We both like "spirited" driving and it handles that fine. So impressed with it that my only regret is we didn't buy 2 so we could have one each. The price has gone up 10% since we bought it. :-/

    A quick reminder for all the 1 liter engine haters. Formula one cars have an 1.6 engine and still can produce around 800hp. Its the advance in turbocharger and boost technology that makes a car produce more power and be more economical, not the engine size.
