Honestly, I think piano is the best instrument to go from if you want to learn the harp! When I first started playing, I mainly drew from my piano repertoire and adapted it from the harp. The notes are laid out in a similar way, so it can be quite intuitive.
@@NaomiSV Ahhh that's so good to know. I started learning music on recorders and then piano, as most children do, but I never managed to get proficient. It was singing that clicked for me, so I went through my grades for classical singing and my piano fell by the wayside a little. Hopefully, there's enough in my brain left to pick up something like harp. It's so beautiful, I would love it!
Very cool that you’re into classical singing! Honestly, the point of music should be to have fun, not to be proficient. If you’re interested in learning the harp, you should go for it! Harpsicles are relatively affordable (harps are expensive…) and a good way to test whether you enjoy playing before committing to a bigger harp. It’s worth checking music stores for rentals too!

The oldest reference to a harp is in Scotland (known here as a clàrsach). The earliest depictions of a harp can be found carved on 8th century Pictish stones in Scotland. These stones show the familiar triangular framed harp, with a fore pillar. It's usage apparently spread south from Scotland to the Anglo Saxons who commonly used gut strings (our Pictish harps were strung with horsehair), and also west to the Gaels of the Scottish Highlands and on to Ireland. The earliest written reference to a harp is found in the Book of Deer, a 10th century manuscript from the north of Scotland. The manuscript contains a poem that mentions a harpist named Calum Cille. It was a popular instrument in Scotland during the Middle Ages and was used in both secular and religious music. It was also used as a symbol of our identity. The harp continued to be played in Scotland until the 18th century. However, the popularity of the instrument declined in the 19th century quite a bit. Then in the 20th century, there was a revival of interest in the harp in Scotland and it's now played by both traditional and classical musicians, still being used mostly in folk music and in Celtic music.

@@johndavidlevy7 I think that's the one I know under the name "All Things Beautiful"! Crazy that they would leave it out of the soundtrack, it's so lovely. I'm due to rewatch the film soon. It has some of my all-time favourite cinematography. Those vintage lenses are to die for...
@@NaomiSV - Yes! That is the same piece of music. Just so lovely and like many tracks on that score, at times a bit overwhelmingly beautiful. To imagine a rendition on harp is...(sigh).Probably one of my most viewed favorites. Criterion Collection really needs to add it to their catalog. Yes! The cinematographer is so stunning! So inspiring! The narration is right up there with the best like Barry Lyndon.
One must admire or stand awestruck by the incredible power of these gifted ones who’ve made culture move forward in triumph. This reads a bit “reich-ey”. Sorry. I’m really amazed by such incredible people and artists.
A harp is a healing instrument...Like when David played to King Saul it overcame the spirit of melancholy that was assailing him? A natural wood harp must be especially so. Like I like to play a classical guitar from rosewood and mahogany, etc. With the harp as with the guitar it is maybe the sound vibrations that are beneficial, providing of course that the harp is played with sensitivity...Maybe you agree? Christmas blessings 🍎🍊🧀🍰🫖🍷🎄🎶🖋x ❤
Have you ever tried playing your electric harp through a Leslie speaker? Effects pedals are cool, but a big, spinning speaker does something special to the sound.
New to this channel - random RUclips feed. Fourth video watched. Speaking for her neighbors: it isn't the late night harp music, it is the deer pest problems that started when she moved in. 😁 Okay - sure multi skilled instrumentalist, but when she pulled out the plastic encased xylohone thing (not sure what it was - I'm mostly musically illiterate, though I might play percussions better than a chimp) - at that point she was just showing off! 😁 I have to subscribe just because of her broad skill sets, excellent execution, and positive content (and my deer fetish - did I type that out loud - crap). 👍
The violin & cello are 2 of my favorite instruments. Some of my absolute favorite music is hard rock/heavy metal played on strings, & classical played on an electric guitar… Moonlight Sonata played on electric guitar is amazing, just like your cover of Sound of Silence on the harp.
I'm glad there is finally a Q&A video, it reveal more about you and allow us get a glimpse of your personality, and it's colorful :D Edit : *spoiler* OUCH! that ending
I can relate to fragments of original music. I have yet to finish a piece, though. Just joined your channel and love it. I am starting to explore wanting to learn playing the harp too. Will check out Christy Lynn and the others. Merci!

I, and all The Little People of Stonehenge 😎 *love* the “T-shirt That Goes To ‘11’ “! 🤣 Hadn’t watched one of your Q&As before, and it was very entertaining and enlightening 🙂. From the backgrounds, I had thought you were maybe in Upstate New York … make that *way* “upstate” LOL! Loved the bit about “different instruments inspire you to play / approach differently” - I have noticed that myself, not only different instruments, but with all the strange garbage I’ve been known to do with guitar effects-pedals (yes, I am a “Philistine” 😎 that way). You mention Emily Sanzaro (love her “Seven Nation Army” ❤️!) and her use of pedals, and it put me in mind of something I cooked-up with my Zoom 606: I was trying to create a “super-12-string” sound (all strings in octaves), and used the octaver, light chorus, and (I think) a reel-flanger. The result is astounding: Not only is the sound incredibly lush (naturally), but “something *happened*” with all the intermingling frequencies - out of nowhere, there is a chorus of what sounds like human female voices “singing” along 😮! Most unbelievable - can you imagine what one of your harps would sound like through a patch like that 😁❤️🎶? I only mention this because you had mentioned elsewhere that you were thinking of following Emily’s lead and giving “stomp-boxes” a go. Think octavers and choruses, when you do 😁! I need to go look at my notebook (yes, I keep one, in case I accidentally wipe-out the programming on the 606) to verify exactly what I did, and in what sequence (that matters, with effects), and I’ll write back. Mind you, this is *not* a MIDI or any other kind of synthesis, just a genuine phenomenon of pure *sound*! 🎶🥰 P.S. Totally adore your Hirschfeld-like profile-pic 😁❤️! One of *your* drawings? (Now that I know you do visual art, also) - Steve / Mesa, Arizona, United States

Love. The shirt changes are amazing. The Careless Whisper video is a masterpiece. Fully agree about The Office. Would love to hear you cover 'Song For Jesse' by Nick and Warren. Thank you for all the gorgeous music.
Thank you so much! My favourites from the Jesse James soundtrack are "All Things Beautiful" and "Mary's Song", neither of which are part of the official soundtrack, sadly...
@@NaomiSV - One of my favorite soundtracks, love both this tracks. Also love ‘Water Song’ which is also not on the the official soundtrack.
I really liked your shirt collections matched with topics.
Thank you!
This is how such videos should be made.
it's like 12tone but instead of drawing the things she wears a shirt
Ton accent Français est adorable !
Penses tu un jour faire une cover du thème principal de Skyrim ?
I love harp so much it's nice to hear.
One must admire or stand awestruck by the incredible power of these gifted ones who’ve made culture move forward in triumph. This reads a bit “reich-ey”. Sorry. I’m really amazed by such incredible people and artists.
A harp is a healing instrument...Like when David played to King Saul it overcame the spirit
of melancholy that was assailing him? A natural wood harp must be especially so. Like I
like to play a classical guitar from rosewood and mahogany, etc. With the harp as with the
guitar it is maybe the sound vibrations that are beneficial, providing of course that the harp
is played with sensitivity...Maybe you agree? Christmas blessings 🍎🍊🧀🍰🫖🍷🎄🎶🖋x ❤
Your voice is pretty soothing like ASMR!
And you are really beautiful.
Okay - sure multi skilled instrumentalist, but when she pulled out the plastic encased xylohone thing (not sure what it was - I'm mostly musically illiterate, though I might play percussions better than a chimp) - at that point she was just showing off! 😁
I have to subscribe just because of her broad skill sets, excellent execution, and positive content (and my deer fetish - did I type that out loud - crap). 👍
Lovely Channel I’m proud of you
Thank you for this QnA apisod. ♥️
Oh gosh, yes, that´s your voice. Beeeeautiful !!!!
The violin & cello are 2 of my favorite instruments. Some of my absolute favorite music is hard rock/heavy metal played on strings, & classical played on an electric guitar… Moonlight Sonata played on electric guitar is amazing, just like your cover of Sound of Silence on the harp.
Youre so pretty and talented always watching all your videos feeling im out off this world peace and freely. Thank you so much god bless.
It is absolutely infuriating that someone can be so talented in so many areas.
Thanks/sorry/aww
Your shirt switches are just awesome. Almost like a jump cut :P.
Videos are just an excuse for different outfits!
How can a person be talented in so many levels. Envy, Love, Respect. A potpourri of emotions. Thank you for the music.
I'm glad there is finally a Q&A video, it reveal more about you and allow us get a glimpse of your personality, and it's colorful :D
Edit : *spoiler*
OUCH! that ending
"these are difficult times" omg lol music humor is awesome.
I can relate to fragments of original music. I have yet to finish a piece, though. Just joined your channel and love it. I am starting to explore wanting to learn playing the harp too. Will check out Christy Lynn and the others. Merci!
Thank you so much 🌷
I, and all The Little People of Stonehenge 😎 *love* the “T-shirt That Goes To ‘11’ “!
This is my first time listening to your voice. You are stunning just like ❤️ you're musical composition
Soothing music on my downtime in the laboratory
Your video and music can last forever!
I enjoy your channel. Thanks
Très belle présentation de ta vie musicale. Totalement naturelle et spontanée (so it seems!), vivante, instructive. Bon succès pour la suite, Naomi
Merci beaucoup!
