- My new harp has arrived!! 😍🎉 I'm so thankful to have the gift of this stunning harp from Musicmakers: the Jolie Hybrid harp. It's part carbon fiber, part wood, so it's only 5.8kg (13 pounds). Sure please do so! I am interested in the harps from Musicmakers. Additionally, I would like to know your thoughts on the spacing between the strings. I want to understand if the string spacing affects the way of playing the harp or imposes any limitations. As a beginner, I haven't had many opportunities to try out each brand.

I enjoyed the unboxing and playing your new Jolie! I also have a Salvi Gaia, similar to your Ogden. I'd really appreciate a comparison of your Jolie and Ogden harps. I'm also looking for a lighter weight harp! I'm impressed with Jolie's resonance because my Gaia has the same resonate duration as does my Salvi Diana pedal harp. A lighter touch string is a welcome change! 😊

Yes! Would love to hear a sound comparison between your Ogden and the Jolie. I am disabled and being able to lift and maneuver a lighter weight harp for playing is intriguing to me. Just ordered the Jolie 33 string hybrid harp. Can't wait to receive it. While I have two Dusty Strings a 26 and 36 strings, I wanted a lightweight harp. Living in the Seattle WA U.S.A. area the Dustys were a natural. Thank you for sharing your video.

I bought a Jolie Hybrid in February and received it in March 2023. I started that journey because my lovely Josephus 36 string Moonspring walnut harp wa getting to be really heavy for me to take out, and my Josephus 32 string Wellspring cherry harp went to a low G instead of a low C. I hadn’t realized that would be a issue in my harp life, but it did affect my choice of music that I could play. I bought the Jolie online, after having watched Stephanie Claussen’s videos many times, and worrying a lot about buying a harp that I had never actually heard, but this 33 string beauty seemed to be exactly what I needed, and it is. I have gotten used to the difference in sound between the Jolie Hybrid and the two Josephus harps. It is definitely different, but I do love it. Who would have guessed that such a light harp would have such a beautiful voice! For me it is the right harp at the right time in my life.

Wow Christy-Lyn! I got a new harp arrive today as well - in Australia, it came from Pennsylvania USA Marini Made Harps. With Customs hiccups it took almost 5 weeks to get here, and today's arrival was a big surprise. It's so beautiful! Your Jolie looks amazing and sounds so sweet, I love the Fruity description. May you continue to bless us all with your playing, I am still crying every time I watch the videos of you playing alongside Joshua Aaron! Thank you for inspiring me to start on my Harp Journey almost a year ago. I received my first 22 string Heather Harp from the Early Music Shop in the UK on June 10th 2022. It was a wonderful beginner instrument, and beautifully made, but this new Marini 28 string Bass Lap Harp is next level! I am so excited, so I really feel your joy in this video! I have a Marini harp also, flat back like the Jolie, and it weighs only 7 pounds. But it has 26 strings - and my only regret is that it doesn't have a few more strings. However, I bought it used, at a VERY reasonable price, so I felt lucky to get my harp anyway, so I could get started learning to play. Christy-Lyn, you are going to love being able to pick that harp up and go anywhere with it. It is beautiful, and I love the sound. Congratulations! Please do play it for us more.

So beautiful! I have a Carbon Fiber harp, 38 string from Heartland Harps. And , it too has a big sound. At almost 74 the less weight I carry with harp in tow-the better my back feels! Your harp is stunning!

Best wishes with your new harp. It has it's own lovely sound. I agree with someone's previous comment, that some harps are better suited for different kinds of music and then there's always one's personal preference. I own a Dusty Strings Crescendo, my very first harp and I love it. I also have the Ogden and I love it too.

Christy could your tell me the wood that this harp is made of. This is a very pretty harp. Did you do upgrades for the soundboard and the patterned sides etc. would you think a person would need a pickup installed. thanks for your help!
Congratulations! It already sounds lovely. I'm looking at a Musicmakers Ballad harp (similar in overall size) as it has lighter tension which is really important to me :-)

What a beautiful harp and the sound is gorgeous! Cangratulations! I saw a hybrid Jolie harp recently in a harp shop but the finish was not shiny and it was darker and did not have the curly wood look. Do you know what wood they used for this one? Looks like curly maple laminate maybe? It looks spectacular! 🥰
Yes the harp is in maple, with aircraft birch soundboard. I’m not sure exactly what type of maple, I can ask! 😍

Your new harp sounds great! How does the string tension compare to a Dusty Strings FH36?
I think they’re pretty similar, perhaps the FH36 string tension is lower but I can’t say for sure because I haven’t played an FH36 in 4 years! I’d suggest you ask Stephanie Claussen, she might know.
Wow a hybrid! ❤Awesome! I have a Jolie and it sounds beautiful but it's not a hybrid! It does sound a bit different. Gorgeous. But I love my Jolie. I understand a hybrid is even less weight. And wow they gave it too you? Dang! I'd love to know the songs you played in this video. I'll check the description but if not if you could let me know I would greatly appreciate it.

It definitely has a brighter sound but still with some resonance. Your fingers/hands will enjoy the lighter tension. Is it nylon or fluorocarbon strings
Nylon! But they have a lovely tone, it’s a much sweeter sound than the nylon string harps made by classical harp companies I’ve tried, for example the Salvi Mia in my old harp comparison video when I first got the Ogden. It’s amazing how much better nylon strings sound when the harp maker approaches the harp design with a folk harp mindset 👌🏻
Saturday 11:49 am, l forgot to say in my previous comment a few days ago, that Yes, I would like to hear and see a comparison of the 2 harps! How does it sound when you do harmonics on it compared to the Ogden? And being made with the carbon fiber, does that make it more protected from changes in the weather conditions, like cold and hot, wet and dry? How easy to lifting the levers compared to the Ogden? Thanks for the wonderful video. It's so great to see family and friends having a wonderful happy time! :)
I’m not sure about the weather conditions with carbon fiber, that’s a great question! The levers are a bit more stiff so I’m still getting used to them - I particularly like the Ogden’s levers. I’ve found harmonics are much easier on the Jolie Hybrid, but I have also suspected that my specific Ogden is not very good for harmonics compared to other Ogdens 🤔 I’m so glad you enjoyed seeing us having fun in this video! 😃🙌🏻
I asked Music Makers about the levers, and they said that they tend to loosen up over time, so I'm expecting the levers to get more and more comfortable as I continue using them 😊👍🏻

Gorgeous craftmanship! Some companies are afraid to be ornate. Im scared that harp makers with end up pricing themselves out. Please hang on companies!
I can understand that concern, since it’s very time consuming and expensive to make harps, and they often have a pretty small profit margin so they can keep it as affordable as possible for the customer. But thankfully many of the harp makers are pretty business savvy too, so hopefully their businesses will keep going for a long time! 🤗

Yes it’s expensive paying for shipping and customs into SA. I got the harp shipped straight from Musicmakers, but Ingrid from Avondale Harps in JHB helped me bring it through customs into SA 👍🏻👍🏻

Do the feet stay on in the case, or must they be removed each time?
They stay on, it’s so convenient!! And the height is perfect for me to sit at a dining chair.

Yes the feet stay on, and the weight includes the feet 😊 The strings are nylon, and steel in the bass. The comparison video is linked at the end of this video, it’s a fun one! 😃🙌🏻
Did you get the quilt look? If so what is the difference?
Yes I would like to know what that meant too. Also about tension. I tried a possible new harp but the tension of strings was much tighter than my little 22 folk lap harp (which I'm thinking of upgrading). I thought the tighter tension would make my joints hurt and I like playing gently. Very tempted by this harp (light is important to me) but so difficult to decide with out trying it out first.

In general, no. But every now and then I play a piece that has the top A in the sheet music and that’s a bit sad.

I was told start tuning in the middle. Go down. Then middle up.
When I got my Ceili Sharon Thormhalen said it didn’t matter.
Actually when Im stringing new harp I go from bass to treble. Because bass has most of tension - therefore most of "deformation" of harp so when I arrived to treble it is a little bit stable...
But.. New strings detune so quickly so Im actually not sure if does it matter :)
