    I currently drive a 2014 Mercedes Benz c350 with the Amg sport package and I have to say that I do miss seeing a different design between the c class, e class and s class. I feel as the design team in Mercedes are just getting lazy and coping what they think is their best looking car, their s class However this new e 400 is very luxurious and sporty. And the tech is great too.

    Silver is a beauty of a color for this car...I am looking at a used silver one with Black interior.... KIller looking vehicle although the grill looks a bit like a step backwards to me.... It does look a bit more elegant in a dark color.... But that shows dust immediately....

    I like that the E class is a smaller version of the S class. One HUGE thing I actually prefer on the E though, is that the hood line goes to the lip of the car rather than cutting off ~4" before it, which I really think is weird.
    I drive a 09' E class

    Hi MotoMan. Thank you very much for all 4 of your excellent reviews of the 2017 E300. Really appreciate your insight and opinions. After many happy years driving a 09 Acura TL, I looked to upgrade to the E300, BMW 5 series, or Audi A6. After months of fun research, test drives, and help from your videos, I decided to go with the E300 with the premium 3 package. Love the new exterior styling, luxurious interior, amazing technologies and buttery smooth ride!
    Have been driving the car for a month now and it is phenomenal! By the way, killers drive Selenite Grey Metallic. I’m still getting used to everything but it has been awesome! The engine is silky smooth and, in my humble opinion, works great in this package. Gas mileage has been really good. The semi-autonomous driving technology is amazing and unnerving at first but, as you get used to it, is very cool. I’ve only done it a handful of times because I’d like to drive the car before the car drives itself.
    Wonderful engineering by Mercedes Benz!

    I drive the 2016 Mercedes GLE with Distronic Plus. I have owned several E class models and knew about this one, but it seems to me sedans are fast becoming obsolete. In almost every trendy area now in America - the sophisticated well-to-do are driving SUVs - primarily the RANGE ROVER SPORT - with Mercedes Gs being a distant second. These SUVs are as plush as sedans and far more practical. A couple of my buddies who sell Mercedes in Dallas and Tulsa tell me SUVs now account for more than 70% of their sales.

    Been watching your content for about 6yrs now. One of the best content out there.I owned a C and and an e class and currently drive a mercedes benz cls550.
    speaking on mercedes sharing it's S class design with the c and e class only benefits the the lower range.i.e the c and e class buyer will enjoy the looks and some of the features of the s class or even on the case of the e class that have some features S class don't have yet. I miss what use to make the s class unique and stand alone.You use to get the look and features you can't get on the lower trim level.That's what made the (S) a (special class).The new s class coup is what I would have to work hard to own.but now I can just settle for the the c class coupe .lol

    A different design language is the way to go, especially for the E class which always looked apart from the S and C class.
    I don't mind if the C class resembles the S, it a good quality to have in a small luxury segment that is crowed with cars that focus mainly on performance and sportiness more than luxury.

    I drive a 190e and I like when the whole line up (class C, E & S) share the same design language. If the design is great it make you fell like you can relate to the other model more. That what I like about the 1985 to 1992 line up. It's all the same car with different sizes & proportions. .. and option choice. That is what I like about Audis being almost the same. They are all nice.

    MotoMan, how come you as a frustrated designer are unaware of the fact that silver is THE colour for cars - which is why almost every prototype/design study is silver???

    • @cls63amgwagon34
      @cls63amgwagon34 8 лет назад

      Wrong most prototypes are white so you can see the design better. If you ever buy a car you have to see it in white first

      Silver is the new white (been for a long time actually). It's the most professional color you can get while still shoeing off the natural beauty and design of the car. Tbh, it's the color i'd get for the E and 5 series.

    I like the current design strategy of one car maker making "small, medium and large" in a single design. I like small, medium and large in one single style. I currently drive a 2011 BMW e90 328i Xdrive (silver on black--the only way a car should be).

    Hey Moto Man!!! I absolutely love your content and I am quickly becoming a HUGE fan. I don't know if this is the right place for a request but I would LOVE to see one of your in depth videos on the new Lincoln Continental. I'm so interested about this car but I can't find a true in depth look at it. I'm assuming it's because it has not come out yet but I ask if you could keep it on your radar. I think that may make for some good talk. Thanks Moto Man and keep up the excellent work!

    • @MotoManTV
      @MotoManTV  8 лет назад +2

      Hey Jon - Thanks for the kind words and reaching out. As you can see, we love what we do here at the show. That said, it is still very much a business. One of the key drivers to our business is timely access to cars. If we get a car too late, the views will not provide an ROI to support our very small operation. We are incredibly fortunate to work with OEMs like Mercedes, Bentley, Hyundai, Kia, Porsche, Rolls Royce, Cadillac and many others that provide us timely access to their cars. Sadly, that is not the case with all of them. That includes Ford. While we have a huge amount of respect for the folks that build, design and engineer Ford cars like Moray Callum, for a long time now we have been unable to feature any Ford cars on the show due to the extremely limited or untimely access to their cars. We have tried to work with them to fix this but there is just no interest on their part of their communications team to change the current situation. We hope it changes because it is funny, while we have one of the highest view counts on a 2015 Mustang episode (ruclips.net/video/vasnZT9kf6c/видео.html), believe it or not, I have never been given the opportunity to drive one from Ford. Hope you understand and look forward to sharing other episodes with you!

    I would definitely like to see a substantial difference between the C, E and S class Benzes. As it is, I personally feel Mercedes has lost the brand cache they once had. In Aus, you can buy a new A-Class for ~40k. Sure, it has SOME of the heritage and tech that Mercedes is known for, but it means the brand is no longer exclusive. Owning a Mercedes was, 10-15 years ago, something to be admired, something people worked hard to achieve. Now, it seems they are (almost) becoming common. That rant aside, the new C, E and S class are a little too similar. The person who spends 300k+ on an S-Class (all of this is Aus specific), would probably be disappointed to see a C class that looked awfully similar. That's why, if I found myself in the position to buy a new Benz, I'd probably look at a Porsche instead. Again, here in Aus, that's a MUCH smaller market and the entry level cars are close to 100k.
    BTW, I drive a 2012 Chrysler 300 (Luxury) diesel. It's like a W211 E-Class left over, but with more features than an equivalent E-Class for ~1/3 the price.

      Mercedes Benz isn't the only manufacturer with this kind of brand recognition. And this isn't the first time in history their cars have looked similar. Mercedes Benz will never loose their way and will always be a sign of success. But in a world where you can buy things like a W220 S55 AMG on the used market for $14k or even an e60 M5 for $20k here, there will ALWAYS be affordable luxury cars, and always have been. The ones who buy brand new S63 AMG cabriolets, AMG GT's, Maybachs, or this new E-class will not be concerned about who can afford a CLA or GLA for $35-40k. And honestly if you can't tell the difference between a C-class and S-class, you're not in the market to buy either one, but you know it's a Mercedes Benz regardless.

    • @g1981c
      @g1981c 8 лет назад +5

      true, the brand has cheapened over the years but at the top of the range ( AMG GT, S65 ) the quality is still there. they now reach mass market with the CLA but at the same time they still have cars on offer for guys who only want the best. i think they're doing it right. and if anybody can't tell the difference between S65 and CLA250 well f*ck him, he's a moron.

  • @hq355
    @hq355 8 лет назад

    Mercedes is going back to the 80s/90s when all the vehicle had the similar look. I don't mind it, as there a are couple of distinct designs that make the distinct to that model line. headlights & Rear lights etc. I would have liked for the E-Class to look abit different but hey, its still a beautiful looking car. i do like the interior as its a mix of the C & the S design. I currently drive a 2010 C63 AMG Wagon which i love. cant wait to see the E63.

    So to answer your question... I would love to see different design languages for each model. Not even a crazy explanation as to why. I just like different design languages. These look almost identical. Without my glasses on I'm sure I'd think it is a C Class from the back.

  • @superravmanrampage
    @superravmanrampage 8 лет назад

    Having a design language that is carried over the S,E and C is important. Benz dont want to differentiate their products to much and want to create a more "family" kinda look to their portfolio.
    Take the 3 series for example. You can see the similarities from the E90 to the F30. (Kidney grille, xenon headlights, hoffmeisterkink etc)
    I think its a brilliant idea that they do that,
    Look at car companies like Hyundai. Their cars look completely different from one and other.

    I mostly agree with Bob808. But with a tweak. Yes the design have to be differentiated more but also keep the so called family feeling. The thing is that the customers have to know that this is still a Merc but with different design. Like they do with the interior. And about the color, the silver isn't that expressive but it is very grateful (ed. dirt, heat... this kind of stuff). At the moment I don't drive anything because my old car broke down hard and I'm getting a new one. Drum roll please it will be a ..... C4 grand Picasso. Yeah I know it's not a drivers car but that's what I need right now. And SUV's are even worse at driving than minivans, they use more fuel and they are pricier to insure... And a classic sedan doesn't offer enough space for the buck... By the way I liked your review :)

    Regarding the tax issue, as long as you have $150k to drop on a new S Class or 7 Series, odds are a few thousands dollars for a "gas guzzler" tax won't even be anything more than a rounding error on your balance sheet.

    I prefer a separate design for each series/classes of a Make.
    Reasons:
    1. If a loyal customer appreciates the brand but doesn't like a new style, there are other options.
    2. If you pay $100k for a vehicle, you don't want it mistaken for a vehicle that starts at $30k.
    3. Technically if form follows function, a vehicle with double the horsepower should look different from one that does not.
    4. The different classes should suite it's buyer. An E class should be a bit more of a compromised vehicle, while an S class should be more ostentatious. This should be reflected in the styling.
    5. Making all the classes look alike seems like a shortcut, a decision based on cutting cost verses unifying a brand.
    My Car:
    2008 Mercedes CLS550 AMG package
    Vehicle History:
    5 Mercedes, 2 Porsches(Highlights)
    Note:
    Let's tell auto makers to stop the fake integrated exhaust tips glued to the rear bumper. No one wants the wrong angle to expose the real 1.75" pipe sitting like a dork in the middle of an unattached insert.

  • @Tully3674
    @Tully3674 8 лет назад

    Interior needs a splash of dark wood (or similar material) on the steering wheel. Also, would rather see the reflectors on the rear bumper integrated onto the taillights. The placement of those reflectors look like an afterthought.

  • @itsmekenlai
    @itsmekenlai 8 лет назад

    More differentiation please. Similar design for different classes makes people think the designers are lazy (it's not easy to shrink the same design), the rich people think they're buying the same car as others in the same brand (which they're not), and the buyers looking for smaller car feel like they're trying to buy something smaller because they can't afford the big ones (not true for a lot of smaller luxury car buyers).

    I think people who will get a S class would prefer different design for each class, but people who would buy a C or an E class would be more towards the same design for all classes, because it gives them more value to there smaller Mercs (cheaper than S class) by giving them the same look and luxury and design that is on the big S class with only minor differences

    i like the same design language in 3 sizes. i hate it when companies deliberately make their cheaper cars ugly to try to force you to buy the more expensive one. that's dumb. you can either afford the more expensive one or not. they made the S class look good, and then they cloned it - smart - i like it. the S class is so much bigger that even with same styling it still looks much more expensive so the S class buyer isn't getting short changed either.

      Mercedes and Tesla have a sorta partnership that's why you'll see merc interior parts in Tesla's and the B-Class as a Tesla powertrain, I think they share some R&D as well but the latest E Class drive pilot system is superior to the tesla Autopliot

    • @dzonikg
      @dzonikg 8 лет назад

      its actualy lot better (like collision avoidance for pedestrians..tesla dont even recognise pedestrians so if you are in front off tesla you are dead..but mercedes will recognise pedestrian and stop or avoid ) ..but mercedes keep for safety that you keep hand on wheel ...but car will still steer by it self
      BUt i wonder how buyers off E class will get updates for autopilot or will they get updates at all like in tesla

      @orangegreenify 8 лет назад

      +Junaid Abdurahman they ended the partnership recently. Tesla for now only gets parts like knobs but no joint R&D anymore

    People are complicated animals. BMW always employs a shared style across different series and people like it. But when Mercedes tries to do that, people, at least some people, hate it. Now we have seen all the cars that share the same design language in this generation of Mercedes, if you ask me which one looks best (MotoMan should ask this question to audience), I say, the one which pinpoint this design language, the S Class Coupe.

    Saw a brown one yesterday :)
    Yea, that shade of silver is AWFUL! You know me M, I kinda have a soft spot for silver & I appreciate a fine silver, but this ain't one. This one is almost Toyota silver bad.
    The interior is very cool, but I prefer the S500 & up one.
    While I agree Cadillac (& Jaguar as well) needs help with their Center Console, Volvo & Audi might be a better inspiration.

    We're in July 2016 and yet car makers already have 2017 models... And in 2017, they'll have the 2018 model. Seems like the stupidest marketing trick, add +1 to year in which it was made to make the buyer feel like it's really so new, like next year new.

    I'd say there are 3 levels of autopilot: TESLA, E-class and the others. As much as I love this E-class, though TESLA has an deadly accident last week, TESLA still ranks the first.

    I'm not saying I want Cadillac to copy and paste Mercedes Benz interiors but they definitely need to reverse engineer and bench mark interiors like these to see why they work so well with customers and critics. The center stack here is stunning.
    As far as the question goes, I have to say I'm not a fan of the singular design language across the S, E, and C-class. I'm happy that cars like the CLS exist(can't wait for the next gen CLS.) Personally this strategy comes across very lazy IMO considering the size of the company. I'd love to see each Chief Engineer take their projects in a different direction aesthetically. BUT I'll let MB get away with it because the S-Class is the bench mark. Point blank period. No reason IMO for the A4, A6, A8 to be so similar.
    Current car??? 2010 Corolla :/

    We need to see a global standard for automobile to automobile standard, a simple Api should do it.
    Google us in the best position to act as a stop gap, and bake something into android or Google maps, that simple follows the moment and speed of phones overplayed onto maps and update drivers of older cars of such issues ahead via the sat nav. The newer (semi) autonomous cars could tap into that info, so it's not just reliant on such a limited set of data.

      the best color is grey. you don't have to wash it. however if you're buying a ~$100,000 car like S class and you don't wash it you're missing the point ... and at that point you want a White or Black car because they get dirty the fastest and as such look most crispy when detailed.

    • @g1981c
      @g1981c 8 лет назад

      in any case, any color other than white, black, silver or grey negatively impacts resale value. so those are realistically the only options. there are articles written to help you make the decision. black is a power color. grey and silver are high-tech colors. and white is a purity color, for girls.

    I don't like what Benz or BMW is doing with their line up other than the fact I loath the hefty S class as well as the 7 series which make good mass production prototypes for the E class or 5 and 6 series which I like better. They sell the garbage to the rich first, such as newly developed body structures, techs, softwars, etc, only to put the proven, bug-free, sleek and better packaged ones on their mid-size vehicles.

    Why would you buy this when you can have the BMW 540 with a 6cyl? $70k for a 4cyl or a 6? and the funny part is that the fuel economy of E400 4-Matic is 21City 29 Hwy & 6cyl BMW 540 AWD is 20city 29 Hwy! E-Class engine is a joke and if you are not a housewife I'm sure you know that a 6cyl car is 100 times better than a 4cyl.

    I went from a BMW 3 series to a 2017 E300. The 3 series drove and handled better. My E300 was peppered with problems. Had to bring it in the shop over 25 times in the first few months. Ridiculous! I bought a car do drive, not to bring it into the shop twice a week for several months! They put me in another E300 (this time a package with heads up display and massaging seats, etc.). First few months, in the shop over 6 times, and Mercedes initially refused to fix the creaking in my door when it went over bumpy roads because they could not duplicate it! Then they were able to duplicate it but wouldn't fix it because it wasn't "continuous" enough! Screw Mercedes! What a POS product they produce! I took a huge loss on the trade in for a BMW. It's night and day! The BMW drives and handles great and has no rattles. It nearly glides everywhere I go. But I paid the price to experience how bad Mercedes is! I will NEVER buy a Mercedes again!

    Car is undersized up front. Car is unreliable. Car depreciates rapidly. Car has practically no storage for your stuff as you drive other than the console. Car is merely average dynamically for the class. No free maintenance, and it's expensive. Car is expensive when equipped like some of the competition. Chick car.
    But otherwise it's great.

    • @g1981c
      @g1981c 8 лет назад

      no free maintenance is a fucking ripoff because with BMW the maintenance is free and its direct competition. this is how Mercedes is able to offer more luxurious interior trim, more supple seats, better audio, more exterior chrome and other touches like exhaust styling all for same price as BMW - because the maintenance is extra cost - this is trickery and it is unbecoming of a company with such rich heritage.
