    Technically, one can make a map that will be equal to the one seen in the trailer, AND be fun to play. We can change the layout so that the cover is next to the house, but at the same time we can extend the path to the hatch.

      Yeah the front can't be changed too much and be faithful, but what is behind the initial section can be changed. Why not have the viaduct area just be the middle and expend further back?

      Honestly I like the idea of a map that starts wtih a big no mans land for the bots to cover to get up to your killing area.

      Do people not like Teien? I always enjoyed it. What do most people find to be wrong with it?

      @ChristainGuyOfAction Here are some problems I identified recently about Teien:
      1. The lack of proper cover at the front of the robot spawn. It practically becomes annoying to defend without a shield Medic.
      2. The water in the front of the robot spawn. This can be annoying for Scout players and sort of mess up blast jumping for Soldier players.
      3. Teleporting Engineer bots. If these are not dealt with properly, they can easily lock down the outside section that leads to the second upgrade station. It's especially made worse if players get pushed back to the rest of the outside area.
      4. The rest of the outside area also feels a bit too long, which can seriously drag down the pacing of each wave. This is made apparent by the mission known as Program Seppuku (part of the Titanium Tank event/tour/campaign).

    the pink/black textures and error models aren't a result of time but rather the map creator not packing custom assets in the release

      yes, most missions were atrociously unfun for the average player and felt like they were playtested solely by 6 man mvm veteran teams
      oh yeah and dont forget when they buffed the experts despite ppl complaining during the beta lol

      There is a lot to this story that isn't public but it boils down to a lot of really really stupid decisions that certain people have made over time finally spilling.

      @@tev5040 They were actually ran with only 5 or fewer players with some heavy restrictions, such as no medic or sniper at all, no uber or crit canteens, and no pyro airblast. Which only really goes to show that the skill gap between hardcore mvmers and the average person is huge and that certain individuals who shall not be named need to stop buffing their missions based off a completion rate percentage and also need to stop saying skill issue to the people who complain about it.

      Moonlight had an event on summer 2024, and was ok I guess
      But they messed up with the end date, they wrote a 10 day later date (even on the official tf2 blog it was displayed like this) which meant that on the last 10 days only murica servers were up 😂
      And the map Scallops was terrible

    What is the point of this video? This is clearly just a map made by fans as a fun tribute to the trailer, why bother making a video which is just berating the map and the developer for "fundamentally flawed gameplay" and graphical issues, instead of just... privately pointing them out to the developer and leaving it at that? Feels like you just wanted to publicly hate on the map simply because you could, instead of, oh I don't know, enjoying it for what it is? I'd understand if this was a critique of an official map made for the game, but... a fun tribute? Come on.

      Just because something was made passionately doesn't make it devoid of any criticism, By that same logic you could say the same thing about a map like wutville. And besides, OP brought up a lot of valid criticism in his video.

      ​@@NicholasKretschmer Wutville was a map that was accepted into the game and could be played in official servers, so being critical of its gameplay and polish was understandable because it was quite literally a part of the game.
      This map, however, is a recreation of the map used in the trailer for fun. It's unfair to hold it to the same standard as official maps because it's clearly not trying to be particularly balanced or fun, because it's putting an emphasis on authenticity to the trailer, rather than gameplay.
      Imagine if I, say, made a ten minute video criticizing the Constitution from Helldivers 2 (or any other joke weapon) for being a bad weapon when... it's clearly not meant to be a good weapon. It's a literal bolt action rifle in a game filled with airstrikes, autocannons, and machine guns. It's not meant to be good, it's meant to be a fun tribute.

      @@SneakyThePagan from a visual standpoint it's a good looking map and you can tell it was made passionately. However nothing should be immune to criticism. It isn't wrong to want something to be better. If he was like "this map is fucking dogshit and the creator is a stupid dipshit" then that would be terrible and a pointless video and I'm sure you wouldn't be the only one hating on it if that were the case.
      I guess my point is that it shouldn't be bad to want things to be better. I couldn't fathom how many hours where put into this map making it look as good as it could be and not even be paid for it. Although I draw and I have messed with hammer enough to know it's a pain in the ass sometimes, I've never made a full blown released map so I'm always appreciative whenever someone does make one.
      A lot of effort was put into making this look good, and I and several others wish it could've gotten that same effort into making it play good, because at the end of the day it's still a video game, which is an interactive format. So even if it looks good, terrible gameplay unfortunately sinks the whole thing.

      @@acdenton5726 I agree with you, my point is that it's fair to assume the map maker probably put an emphasis on authenticity than gameplay since it seems to be trying to recreate a map from a trailer, rather than simply being inspired by it. Because of that, I think it's a bit daft to make a 10 minute video discussing its gameplay when it easily could have simply been a comment or a discussion on the map's workshop.

    Aside from the problem with nav mesh and polishing, What if they relocate robot spawn to up on that ramp shown in the trailer and place a destroyed train (and some cargo) on the rail as a cover? Also relocate the sniper spawn to be inside the tunnel?

      On 2012-2014 people in MvM doesn't have much experience yet so they don't know anything about how its perform yet i guess

    There's a map called "mvm_factory_rc1" that I love, but the most of the missions for it seem to be lost to time, but I loved the map for how unique and challenging it could be as it's a conveyor belt control point map that was needed to deal with high hp giants, tanks, and infinite support tanks base on the mission

    The balance of life
    You either get a cool looking map that will fit a trailer perfectly, but sacrifice the good gameplay or vice versa.
    Still damn weird how no one tried replicating that map for a while though

    I dunno, maybe this would work better as a zombies map like baunerhof? Where the goal is more to survive each wave rather than to defend a bomb. Just a thought.

    seeing that startacker was the one that made the missions I'm not suprised they're awful. some of the worst mvm stuff came from him.. well okay that's unfair and I shouldn't turn this into a shit talk roast fest or whatever. anyway the map was only really made so we could have the mvm trailer be an actual map and for that I'd give it a pass as a neat little thing. as part of a campaign though, no way and I don't think anyone else is thinking so (even the creator seeing as how they just took parts of viaduct) honesty don't know why they made missions for this anyway, unless.. they really thought viaduct was a good match for mvm ough

    Mann Versus Machine release its been 12.5 years pass. Nobody ever wonder about Trailer map in first place? i can still remember at time in 2012 when i watch my older brother on Mann Versus Machine Trailer and after i watch trailer over in the over again. Because badass ever made in gaming history and i ask this question: where is trailer map? why is not on official gamemode maps list?
    This is Why Valve Big Mistake did in Game Trailer: *"disappointment of making gamemode trailer with mistakes."*

      Well, I personally also liked Logging Dreadwood on the Sludge map. The way it's set up reminds me of Calendartillery on Rottenburg during the Osmium Ordinance tour. I love how there was a fun little story tied to the mission in chat and how it all ultimately builds up to the main villain/antagonist: the Zombie King.
      I think Logging Dreadwood is at least an A-tier mission in that regard.
