4:21 OMG, a friend of mine once told me the story of this happening to her. We were all 17/18 years old and she was a new driver on the intercity highway, suddenly her front hood detached and flew on her windshield, blocking it completely. She panicked so hard she needed a change of pants… going blind 100KM/Hr… 😱 this sh*t happens more often than you’d think… Also, about a decade later, one of my best friends totaled her brand new car because an animal had wandered onto the highway, got hit by a huge truck, flew on her car, making her lose control for a while.. she crashed into the side of the road with roadkill smeared all over her new car… that car was totaled just like the roadkill, she didn’t get hurt, thank God, but that was SCARY AF!!! It’s sh*t like this that explains for me why I don’t have a license. I can’t handle this stuff… had it been me, my first instinct would have been to stop, and then panic, or the other way around.. I don’t know… This is why I don’t trust myself to drive. Plus, if I were responsible for sticking my ass into another lane and caused an accident, I wouldn’t forgive myself.
@Future Pants people who don't trust themselves to drive should not be behind the wheel, full stop. that's not a choice one makes lightly in this car-centric world, and it is not an easy one to work around. After watching SEVERAL of these videos I've noticed something, other than the braindead causing accidents .....it appears to me that MANY of the folks who are recording these incidents are themselves exceeding the speed limit for inner city/suburban traffic areas .....just an observation
They also take ZERO initiative to avoid accidents. They will refuse to let people merge. They won't slow their car if they see someone obviously turning in front of them. It's wild.
11:42 When you accidentally touch the gas pedal after somebody crashes into you, does some insurance pay that damage? Does it count as part of the first accident so that his insurance must pay?
The best I can understand it, UNLESS it gets to court of course, YOU are responsible for controlling YOUR car 100%. SO if "the other guy" was at fault in the initial collision, but he still "hit the gas instead of the brake" he would only be responsible for the second collision that HE expressly incurred... It happens fairly frequently... AND the reason this is "unless it gets to court" is that a court decision trumps whatever is "the usual practice". AND this is even subject to some negotiations between insurance companies... depending on the evidence at hand, as much as any particular protocols or other standards of practice... ;o)
When stopping at red lights, make sure you can at least see where the tires of the car ahead of you touch the ground. If stopped in traffic, make it at least a car length, and be ready to hit the brake.
At 8:06 the brown Ford truck with trailer coming into the parking lot is what caused the driver on the hiway to swerve at high speed, crashing into the other car parked up on the road. The swerve probably saved the drivers life. If he had gone ahead and hit the Ford truck and trailer that turned in front of him, he most likely would not have survived that impact at that speed.

I love it when people seem to get the idea to turn lights on when you flash your high beams at them a few times. I almost always have my lights on, whether I'm in my own car, or my big work truck. A rule I drive by every day is "see and be seen." It has saved my butt a few times already, and if I ever get into an accident, I can confidently say that they should have seen me, depending on the situation of course. Stay safe out there guys!

I drive over Ross Island Bridge many times a week and it's a nightmare. 40mph, 4 lanes, no divider, no shoulder, people taking it at 50pmh, begins with a merge lane where people REFUSE to speed up to match traffic. Honestly, speed limit should be 30mph on that thing.
3:32 - question for South Carolinians or anyone who might know: why is Florence the control city (on the directional sign for Interstate 20 East) and not Columbia, the state capital and closer city? That strikes me as odd, given the larger size and great proximity of Columbia.
The interchange is at 34.07370,-80.99953. I-20 goes around Columbia on the north side. In this case, to go to Columbia, one would go straight, and not even use I-20. Most in the region would know that Augusta = west and Florence = east.

Flash your lights at me I’m flicking you off 😂
9:24 Let me get this straight… he passed between two trucks?????😱😱😱
2:48 that's a blown head gasket...4:45 so cheering for that one myself...this videos title has graduated from Idiots in Cars to Morons in Cars.

2:06 Great driving lesson.
Music matches at 1:09 with the lady who was looking down and looked up to see a car coming up fast
4:21 OMG, a friend of mine once told me the story of this happening to her. We were all 17/18 years old and she was a new driver on the intercity highway, suddenly her front hood detached and flew on her windshield, blocking it completely. She panicked so hard she needed a change of pants… going blind 100KM/Hr… 😱 this sh*t happens more often than you’d think…
Also, about a decade later, one of my best friends totaled her brand new car because an animal had wandered onto the highway, got hit by a huge truck, flew on her car, making her lose control for a while.. she crashed into the side of the road with roadkill smeared all over her new car… that car was totaled just like the roadkill, she didn’t get hurt, thank God, but that was SCARY AF!!!
It’s sh*t like this that explains for me why I don’t have a license. I can’t handle this stuff… had it been me, my first instinct would have been to stop, and then panic, or the other way around.. I don’t know…
This is why I don’t trust myself to drive.
I love to drive, but people who can't shouldn't, for all our sake as well as theirs, not everyone is cut out to make life altering split second decisions piloting 2 tons of steel at 70 mph. it's not weak or privileged to acknowledge that. I have anxiety too, and I can't imagine thinking of someone who has to spend an extra 3 hours getting anywhere at the mercy of US public transit as "privileged"
0:45 - all sorts of wrong is the red car -- going from a merge lane, not signaling, not accelerating, and cutting off the truck trying to brake to avoid.
The car was signaling and accelerating what are you talking about
the truck was at fault for going too fast
@@O.Reagano you’re literally supposed to merge and switch into lanes after the coast is clear. If you see someone fucking going 90 on an expressway don’t fucking get in front of them and cut them off leave it alone and go after them. The red car signaled but didn’t check their mirrors. Another sign of stupidity or entitlement
11:45 the way he slowly backed away made me giggle
After watching SEVERAL of these videos I've noticed something, other than the braindead causing accidents .....it appears to me that MANY of the folks who are recording these incidents are themselves exceeding the speed limit for inner city/suburban traffic areas .....just an observation
"Idiots in Cars" doesn't specify who is the idiot for a good reason.
They also take ZERO initiative to avoid accidents. They will refuse to let people merge. They won't slow their car if they see someone obviously turning in front of them. It's wild.

11:42 When you accidentally touch the gas pedal after somebody crashes into you, does some insurance pay that damage? Does it count as part of the first accident so that his insurance must pay?
i mean, it was his fault already so that part doesnt matter. his insurance will already have to payout
@@StarForgedTCG Okay, right. But generally, what would be if it is not his fault? (of the one that hits a car in this way after a crash)
AND this is even subject to some negotiations between insurance companies... depending on the evidence at hand, as much as any particular protocols or other standards of practice... ;o)
"Everyone was okay" so the at-fault driver _really_ thought that was the brake pedal, despite the car accelerating.
When stopping at red lights, make sure you can at least see where the tires of the car ahead of you touch the ground.
If stopped in traffic, make it at least a car length, and be ready to hit the brake.
0:55 second one on the Ross Island bridge recently... it's pretty dangerous, and dear god don't get out of the car there
Wild antics! Drive responsibly, stay safe
5:35. Be like this guy when you make a mistake. Wave, apologize and get out of the way. Take responsibility and everyone can move on with their day.
0:50 The speeding truck is at fault. doing at least twice the speed limit. Red car should not be expected to check that far back for an idiot.

At 8:06 the brown Ford truck with trailer coming into the parking lot is what caused the driver on the hiway to swerve at high speed, crashing into the other car parked up on the road. The swerve probably saved the drivers life. If he had gone ahead and hit the Ford truck and trailer that turned in front of him, he most likely would not have survived that impact at that speed.
what are u talking abt the ford made a right turn and the car at fault was speeding

I think they were looking outside the window to their left? Which doesn’t make it any better lmao . If you wanna go sight seeing have someone else drive
The car cutting off the traffic in the fast lane is at fault. I had someone do that to me and try to claim I ran into them. Video showed that they unsafely merged into the lane that was moving much faster.

11:50 Everyone was OK. Can't say the same about the vehicles.
For to many «drivers», traffic lanes are nothing more than vague suggestions...
0:50 the car should have been more vigilant but that truck was going too fast
Yes he was probably speeding but the person changing lanes has the ultimate responsibility to ensure it is safe before moving over.
@@pauldavis9387 Not necessarily. It's not the car's fault that the truck driver was reckless, speeding and driving aggressively. The car looked. He saw a clear lane. The lane was clear for him when he begun the merge that's at least 100 yards. It doesn't matter how fast the traffic behind you is going, if you want to pass slower traffic then you can. You don't have to try to calculate their closing speed in your mirror, you just need to see the lane is clear.
@@frankfalkenburry5373 Are you out of your mind? You don’t have to calculate the closing speed? What school did you go to? Thats the first thing they taught us in high school about pulling out. You don’t pull out when there wont be enough time for you to get up to speed. The same is true of changing lanes. For the love of god learn the basics before you get someone killed.
@@pauldavis9387 You assume people are going the speed limit, you don't 'calculate' they are speeding well beyond the speed limit. The car pulling out in front of you may be doing so on the understanding that you aren’t driving faster than the speed limit. So the driver thinks there is more than enough time to pull out and join the road safely. Speeding that much over the limit is reckless driving BY LAW. You don't deserve a drivers license you're going to get someone killed.

0:55 to 1:05 that is why Drivers Ed teaches you to leave one car length of space per 10 or every 15mph of speed and more distance in the rain. It's not rocket science people
10mph = 14.66ft per sec, avg car length is (quickly googled) 14.7ft, so we can round it up to 1 second of space between cars
looking at lets say 1:07 , white line that appears in the rear window takes about 30frames to reach front of the car behind (30 frames = 1second in this case)
lesson learnt, now its time for her to either start paynig attention, work on reflexes or start leaving 2 car lengths of space :P

Wrong way drivers should lose their license forever and get prison terms. That's attempted murder.
The trucker is very very lucky. Sometimes a fast wrong-way driver is an intentional attempt at suicide, often seeking the first truck they can find to ram head-on. :/ Happened to a fellow truck driver at my last employer ... a last minute move he managed to make prevented it from being successful, but it was still a very serious crash.
5:50 wow they got super lucky dodging that. good defensive driving on their part.
Remember, when you get into an accident and it's the fault of someone else, don't limit yourself to JUST repairing the damage; there's a loss of resale value because your vehicle was in an accident that you should also attempt to recoup.
Don't believe it- well, research it-- it's out there..
The truck that completely crushed that car between the other truck deserves and award. That VW drivers insurance is going to be so high. It really sucks to think that guy would 100% of ran if his car wasn't completely disabled.

Perhaps he should actually, I don't know, yield the merging lane. You don't HAVE to ride that lane in the center of a major metro area when you know people are trying to merge.
Was thinking the same, he looks like a bit of an asshole in the video. Guy had no more room to wait to merge, guy rode that lane to the end and it's up to the him to yield
I value my CDL too much to not use the lights all the time. Especially when parking overnight, I'll run the marker lights so others have an easier time backing in next to me.

She gets lucky and the person passing moves out of the way. Then she proceeds to stand between two cars stopped IN traffic... She must really not value her own life.
