When hit&runs happen it's allways weird how you never get a numberplate on camera, because the USA(or many states , or many vehicle classe ?) doesn't put numberplates in the front of the cars.
And apparently USA also has that stupid loophole where the owner of the car is not liable to provide the identity of the driver of the car that caused a crash. It's the same in Germany and it sucks. So if you have everything on camera but the driver is not identifiable behind the windows of the car you can't blame anyone. At least , it's not the dirvers that are ensured but the cars , so that you at least get your damages accounted for by ensurance. Is it the same the USA?
Funny enough in Germany, when a speeding cam issues a ticket, the car holder is liable by to provide the identiy of the driver... because if you fuck with the money of the state they fuck you right back.

I remember several citizens of Germany warning us that, when driving on the Autobahn without a speed limit, you are still responsible, at least partially, for any accident, even if they pull in just as demonstrated in this video. We were going 250 kph at one point, but even with that we were both (me as the passenger on this part) hyper-aware of every car's movement around us, especially the just-merging. Had the truck been paying attention, this incident would have been just road rage.

Germany has normally no speed limit on the autobahn, but when you drive more then 130km/h (which is the "Richtgeschwindigkeit"/recommended speed) and something happens, you will get at least some fault for the accident, even when you are not directly at fault.

She panicked so hard she needed a change of pants… going blind 100KM/Hr… 😱 this sh*t happens more often than you’d think…
Also, about a decade later, one of my best friends totaled her brand new car because an animal had wandered onto the highway, got hit by a huge truck, flew on her car, making her lose control for a while.. she crashed into the side of the road with roadkill smeared all over her new car… that car was totaled just like the roadkill, she didn’t get hurt, thank God, but that was SCARY AF!!!
It’s sh*t like this that explains for me why I don’t have a license. I can’t handle this stuff… had it been me, my first instinct would have been to stop, and then panic, or the other way around.. I don’t know…

The best I can understand it, UNLESS it gets to court of course, YOU are responsible for controlling YOUR car 100%. SO if "the other guy" was at fault in the initial collision, but he still "hit the gas instead of the brake" he would only be responsible for the second collision that HE expressly incurred...
It happens fairly frequently... AND the reason this is "unless it gets to court" is that a court decision trumps whatever is "the usual practice".
AND this is even subject to some negotiations between insurance companies... depending on the evidence at hand, as much as any particular protocols or other standards of practice... ;o)

At 8:06 the brown Ford truck with trailer coming into the parking lot is what caused the driver on the hiway to swerve at high speed, crashing into the other car parked up on the road. The swerve probably saved the drivers life. If he had gone ahead and hit the Ford truck and trailer that turned in front of him, he most likely would not have survived that impact at that speed.
