I see this all the time with these sorts of accidents. You could argue about the snow for this one, but I see this in clear conditions all the time. Even if one believes in not coming to a full stop in case you get rear-ended. For the most part, every single time, all they had to do was to slow down to avoid the accident and getting rear-ended. I just don't get why people just refuse to slow down no matter what.
3:27 it would be the darker grey cars fault. Only 3 lanes. The silver car was already in the turn/straight lane with their blinker on. Dark grey car was being reckless.
Honestly some of these people just need to learn defensive driving. If someone is merging into your lane and does not care that you are other, don't speed up. don't try to block them. they could easily be impaired (or just stupid) and you trying to block them coming in will 100% make an accident happen.
@@Aurora3242 Honestly I agree, but that's not going to happen. I always yield, but there are a lot of people who don't care. It's just dangerous to drive offensively. Drive defensively, protect yourself.
That SUV had already spun it out, it's extremely likely there was black ice or something that meant he couldn't stop in time. We aren't really shown enough of what happened before in the video to judge.
@@ATealPenguin The car had more than enough time to stop. A blind man can see that ...just stop please. There is always someone who thinks they should argue the obvious just quit.
The only defense I can offer for that "car", (assuming it's the one that collided), I can give is,,, that "car" did have brake lights on. It was trying. Also,,, we were not there under that pressure. We are sitting in a chair watching a video. I have no defense words for the SUV. At 0:28, for a moment, it looked like the SUV driver saved it for a moment. But went spinning again. It was going straight for a moment. Keep your beans off the pedals and settle down.
2:36 I can assure you that no matter what are you driving, that is WAY too fast for condition of that road. Whenever there are even leftovers of snow, adjust your speed or you will end up in a ditch.
I totally agree. I have experience driving on roads like that and I tend to push the limits of my car's grip. But I would be very uncomfortable at that speed. It's not just the road conditions. Add in all the unpredictable traffic. Even the cammer was going faster than the pickup at the beginning of the clip then slowed due to the traffic ahead. I hope my advice to bad snowy weather drivers is correct. When on the slippery stuff. Do a quick pulse braking check, (slower than posted highway speeds), of your car's grip on the road. Make sure no one is close behind you when you do that tire grip/brake check! Learn your car/truck's stopping power/grip on the road.
@@tigerzero5216 That is correct, I suggest (if comfortable) people try hard braking in snow on a parking lot. Many people have no idea that it takes several times longer distance to brake than on a dry road.
It's not just road conditions either. A driver careless enough to leave snow on their roof, rear deck, hood, or windows has too poor of judgment to be trusted. Someone like that is going to cause an accident. Just a question of when.
9:51 The big electric sign on the right saying to drive sober or get pulled over combined with the cop car on the left, that is about as poetic as it gets

@@PianistTanooki Well, duh. But to think dialectically and wisely, we must "check the facts" or consider that we don't have them all. Maybe they dropped hot coffee or a lit cigarette. I have managed to drive for 35 years without honking, even when almost side-swiped bc I'm more focused on driving defensively and with some courtesy than being "right". 5:10 I have driven by this I-5 and 78 Junction in Southern California before. It is honestly a miracle there hasn't been more accidents because I have seen some of the worst driving ever at this junction, especially in rush hour.
Zipper Merge applies. one for one. Truck shouldn't have to allow every entitled asshole to merge just because they force their way out. Besides that, they are changing lanes from a merge lane to a travel lane. Safe merging is not performed by forcing your way out when you are indeed change lanes. Most places you have got to yield to traffic already in lane as you are merging. Little different than changing lanes.
2:45 and this is why it is actually illegal to not clear the snow off your vehicle. Cops generally won’t ticket you for it, but it might increase your fines in a situation where the presence of snow or ice caused the accident(I.e. ice flying off and smashing someone’s windshield behind you, or in this case, snow blowing off obscuring vision and leading to an accident)
Thanks to the cammers who stop and offer assistance when they see a crash. To those who don't, remember that when you're in an accident, when everyone just passes you by.
I recently caused an accident a couple months ago. I was extremely sick and shouldn't have been driving. But I had a moment where I thought for sure a blatantly red light was green, and ran it as a result. I wouldn't be surprised if it ever ends up on a compilation like this. I'm just so glad it was my car that got totaled and not the other guy who was able to drive away. I haven't tried to drive since
same happened to me in early january (literally the day before my bday). i had my new car for not even a week, went to cross an intersection blind and got t-boned. everyone was perfectly fine aside from me panicking, and the other guy's car was barely scratched. i had to pay $3k in repairs for my car, and i just got it back a few days ago. but in between that time of the accident and getting my car back i was temporarily traumatized and was scared to drive, especially doing the same maneuver i did that got me in the accident. but just know that you'll be able to move on from it, it just takes time. learn to forgive yourself and learn from your mistake. it happens to everyone at some point.
you can really tell the people who send in pictures of snowy rear windshields have never done much driving in snowy conditions. Or have ever driven a cargo van. Having a rearview mirror is just a convenience, you have two other mirrors that functionally and legally fulfil the same functions. It's definitely nice to have and using it helps you gain more situational awareness, but its perfectly safe to be without it as long as you act accordingly and always look twice before and during your merge, which you should do anyways.
4:45 It is LEGAL to cross a double yellow line into and out of a driveway. That was a legal move. Impeding traffic is illegal however. It was illegal TIMING.
2:12 I was like, "that really looks like 696 headed to 275 near Northville, Canton, Plymouth etc in Michigan." Yep. I drove that highway back and forth to and from Detroit for years.
People really should reconsider waiting until the roads clear before they drive anywhere. Nothings more important than your well being. Be safe people.
As a former resident of my home state, up in the very cold and snowy northern tier of the USA, I have to agree with you. Once I retired six years ago, I no longer drove on snowy or icy roads, and now that I'm living in a state 800 miles south of there, I just plain and simply don't drive in icy conditions (we don't get much snow, but do get ice during Dec., Jan., and Feb.), nor at night, nor even on foggy days. I have no place I have to be that's more important than keeping other drivers safe, and I know my limitations---and then I expand that out to include if I have a headache, I won't drive because pain impairs my judgment.
10:42 Cammer name speaks volumes about the idiocy. You had an entire lane and he wasn't going to turn in front of you, so what was the point of blaring the horn?
that guy making the turn didn't even touch the line, cammer was like how dare this guy turn into a lane i'm not even driving in. then proceeeds to blare his horn and is suprised he gets flipped off for being an idiot
9:07 black cars is 100% at fault. you can see truck had a green light. black car also had a green light probably but going strait is priority over people turning left
0:23 this video and the next 2 following are examples of poor defensive driver's who just got lucky. Especially the last one where they purposely stopped on the wrong side of the wreckage putting themselves in great danger from being struck by following traffic. I'm glad they didn't get involved but certainly could have done a better job of avoiding danger instead of relying on just luck. There may be worse examples following but this is as far as I've watched so far.
At 0:23 when the clip starts, the SUV is already out of control. All cars around it continue to remain too close and going too fast until impact at 0:37! If I were the insurance company of the car that struck the SUV, I'd be telling him to go ahead and plan to pay for the repairs themselves and then cancel them because they are clearly incapable of avoiding an accident.
3:27 I say the grey one. While, to be fair, the road markings are a little confusing, which never helps, but not only did the other car had their blinker on, which should've given the grey car a hint that they were gonna turn, but the grey car rolled through the stop line. And, sure, had the silver car checked their blindspot again, it would've prevented this, there was no expectation for them to, and not something that I feel any reasonable person would consider a necessary check, since normally in this situation there wouldn't be a need to
if you're in a state where it's legal to create another lane like that, then no, the light car is at fault. Otherwise, they're both at fault, since the light car could've easily avoided that by just looking but the other car shouldn't have been there in the first place.
8:47 Ah, the joy of slamming brakes on a slippery road... As we see, as soon as he hit the brakes, the vehicle started swerving out of control... First of all, slow down during snow... Secondly, use brakes very carefully and only press them very lightly and only when you have to. Decelerate by removing your foot off of accelerator pedal and with other means (some of which are possibly with manual gear only, I guess)...
Not to mention they most likely don’t have 4WD or weren’t using it, and are rolling around with good weather tires. But to be fair, they were probably working with all 75 IQ points they have
2:33 so, I’m sure the car did not do this on purpose. Don’t take it so personally “tried to run me off the road”. No, they made a stupid decision, not wanting to be behind that truck going slowly.
3:24 or so, you have the car furthest to the right making a doubly illegal turn from the bicycle lane. There are only three lanes, there. They weren't in a lane. 100% at fault. Can't expect the person making a legal turn to expect that crap. A lot of these are flat-out dumb, incompetent drivers who have less excuse than the drunk guy. And a lot of people have no understanding of right of way and just think that if they can get away with it, then it's fine. Danger to themselves and others, should not be operating machinery.
1:03 Ok I’m glad you got through unscathed, Kenneth. Did it occur to you to pull over and offer the footage to the silver SUV? You know the black one will try to pin it on them.
"This convinced me to get snow tires"?? That ain't gonna do it. What you need is a STICK SHIFT. These car-cam videos demonstrate three things: 1) almost nobody, at least those with cameras, stops to render assistance even though they clearly saw something; 2) imbeciles still pass on the right; and 3) people drive around listening to some *reeeeeeally weird shit* in their cars.
Why are some of these cammers getting so scared when another driver looks in their direction? Omg, you're both driving on the same road, good thing you laid on the horn for a quarter mile when there was less than three vehicle lengths of space between you two for a moment.
5:50 semi’s like this piss me off, why not let traffic i to the highway? They’d rather leave you stuck behind then simply let you in just because they drive a big truck smh

@@Xevion I mean, the left side did seem to have less obstacles from the very start but yeah. His reflex might have not been entirely optimal at the start, but he still made it through without a scratch, so that's a win in my book.
the spinning car did a swing to its left and then a 180+ degree counter swing.
nobody could predict where it would go
but perhaps the cammer was target fixating.
0:23 here's an idea! When you see a vehicle lose control in front of you, how about not continue towards it?!
I have a feeling they couldn’t just instantly stop yea? It was snowing and bad conditions that’s why they lost control, the cammer while not making the best decisions couldn’t just instantly stop

@@velocryti I'm not going to criticize their inability to stop, but they didn't even let off the accelerator for the first 10 seconds of that clip. Horrible awareness
@@schannoman I’m aware that’s why I said they didn’t make the best decision
Or how about people learn how to drive - MERGERS YEILD, period!
@@Aurora3242 Honestly I agree, but that's not going to happen. I always yield, but there are a lot of people who don't care. It's just dangerous to drive offensively. Drive defensively, protect yourself.
Or impaired by their stupidity 😁.
exactly, better to respect the road than get into an accident due to unnecessary rage
@@Aurora3242unfortunately, it's quite unsafe for a car to fully stop on the acceleration ramp on a freeway without causing a pileup
Car at 0:36 had all the time in the world to avoid hitting that SUV or even make a complete stop to avoid that accident...just wow.
That was exactly my thought... like did they just dissociate for several seconds there?
That SUV had already spun it out, it's extremely likely there was black ice or something that meant he couldn't stop in time. We aren't really shown enough of what happened before in the video to judge.
@@ATealPenguin The car had more than enough time to stop. A blind man can see that ...just stop please. There is always someone who thinks they should argue the obvious just quit.
Exactly. Stevie Wonder would've started slowing down as soon as he seen the durango starting to swerve.
9:10 obviously it's the fault of the person turning on unprotected green
Yep, both left turners seemed to go when the other direction had a green light.

0:15 what a weird reaction
and the fact the camaro ran a red light, so they did it to themselves
6:06 Trucker should allow cars to enter the freeway.
He probably saw that black truck going around long before the camera did. I'm also going to say blinkers are nice too
Zipper Merge applies. one for one.
Especially when most of them were already in front of him. Dude was being a dick for no reason.
Hahahahahaha 11:17 is in Durango, CO. Glad to see our local law enforcement doing their job!

6:10 why honking? Trucker's being a dick. Just be kind and let people in ffs.

HAHAHA then the next one is in Sterling Heights.
Yes ideally... But the problem here is that means no driving for 4 to 5 months.
I like Nicks excitement in the beginning! He did get it on recording!
I don't think the driver at 5:37 in the black SUV was in the wrong. He had his turn signal on and eased over.
i agree. i was wondering why the heck the horn was blown
No, that van was totally going to cut him off.
Regardless, van needs to turn into the closest lane- the right lane- then safely merge.
9:07 black cars is 100% at fault. you can see truck had a green light. black car also had a green light probably but going strait is priority over people turning left
Yep. The law is that left turning car must yield to all oncoming traffic.
Dash cam is a must nowadays.
11:15 he didn't flip you off. That was an apology wave.
"alerted him with my horn" Oh is that what we call laying on the horn these days? lol
Ahhh the days gone by when you would see an accident and say..”I hope they aren’t hurt “….now it’s “I got it on recording “
9:12 obviously the one turning's fault. They are supposed to yield.
3:27
I say the grey one. While, to be fair, the road markings are a little confusing, which never helps, but not only did the other car had their blinker on, which should've given the grey car a hint that they were gonna turn, but the grey car rolled through the stop line. And, sure, had the silver car checked their blindspot again, it would've prevented this, there was no expectation for them to, and not something that I feel any reasonable person would consider a necessary check, since normally in this situation there wouldn't be a need to
4:21 this is your own fault
3:25. The car that created a fourth lane was at fault
idk about your state but in california im pretty sure it's legal to do that, plus the white car failed to signal until they were turning
@@xander4218 Maybe legally at fault but the light car had a bad driver and drove into the other car.
@@MaxBrix ya thats what im saying, the light car was being dumb
if you're in a state where it's legal to create another lane like that, then no, the light car is at fault. Otherwise, they're both at fault, since the light car could've easily avoided that by just looking but the other car shouldn't have been there in the first place.
Stop screaming if you're not in danger, jeeze
4:15 You're a delivery driver and an accident convinced you to get snow tyres? Give back your license, you're a danger to society!
0:34 reminds me of a person trying to commit insurance fraud by intentionally getting into a wreck, like... what the hell was the cammer thinking?
