I don't think the issue is paying him 24ish mill a year on a 2 year contract, that's a fair deal for what he still provides and I would say most people would agree with that (outside of haters and people who fall too hard on recency bias), I would say that instead there are two issues about Klay's situation with the Warriors: 1. The Warriors are already paying a similar contract to someone who is in that tier of player: Andrew Wiggins, and he's on a contract for at least two more seasons, regardless if you trust in him going back to his 22' form or if you see him as a trade asset to get another player in that tier, he's a way safer bet to invest on than Klay. Adding Klay on that kind of contract isn't gonna give the Warriors the edge to compete for a chip, they need that money to either pay a certified 2nd star or to strongly improve their role players and bench. 2. Klay is the one who think that's not a fair deal, it has been widely reported that he wants a longer contract and throughout the year there was also a lot of noise about him wanting more money too, added to the fact that despite what he has said, on the court he has not shown to be capable of accepting a smaller role at all and it's just too many issues to keep him.
