This helped alot! Less frustration and much simpler. My practice packs were much easier vs. the standard method taught at packing class. And it helped me pass the packing exam much earlier than expected. Thanx!
I love that you explained so much, especially at the kill line part. When I show someone how to pack I also tell them why it's so important to check for a loose line in the pilot shute. Sadly a lot of people, like you said, only pull once on the hacky and leave it. Or only do this snap test. Maybe one thing to add is that you can still pull some of the kill line out when it's already in the dbag if your using a bridle that doesn't seperate in the area from canopy attachment point to inner part of the dbag. And if you're using one that does seperate don't pull any more on the kill line when it's in the dbag so you don't wrap it around the fabric. Blue Skies🤙
I check it 3 times throughout the packjob. There's nothing I'm losing out on by triple checking at different stages. Just like with flaking, you can save some time by not flaking...but the time you save is not necessarily worth the small possibility that you could have a line over. like I said, a lot of line overs happen on the previous landing...not the packjob itself.
Great video. Been away from the sport for a little while and needed the level of detail you included to feel comfortable in what I was doing again. Working back to front of the canopy while flaking the cells is a lot easier than the front to back method I was originally taught. Thanks!

On my 6th pack job my lines were so entangled from throwing the rig in my car after my last jump I disconnected the risers from the container straightened untangled/untwisted the lines, and reconnected the risers to the container and finished packing the parachute. The next day I showed up at the DZ ready to go. First jump was a 10 second delay from 4k out of a C182. Deployed the pilot chute at 2500ft. As I looked up and watched the canopy start to inflate, I thought, nice, my pack job is working (I was extremely apprehensive about the pack job) and saw the canopy fully inflate. That was good. What was not good was that when I reattached the risers the night before I put them on backwards. So now I was facing in the opposite direction of the line of flight, I was flying backwards! I continued flying the parachute to a safe landing. Fortunately, the very light wind was blowing right down the 3000 ft grass runway. The landing flare was a little weird and I actually stood up on landing. When I made it back to the packing area no one said anything about me flying backwards, and I thought, gee, I may not have to endure the constructive criticism of my fellow jumpers. Not, the pilot(D-47), saw me flying around backwards and told everyone else. Needless to say I never disconnected the risers again to resolve line twist. Fun times.

Excellent video and good teaching points, good script clarity and camera work. One beef: The D-bag on a sport rig is not a "cube" as you stated multiple times. D-bags are rectangular prisms with six faces (three pairs of parallel rectangular faces that do not necessarily have to be squares). In contrast, a cube by definition has six faces, but each of its faces is a square that has exactly the same area as each of its other five faces.

I’m totally going to try that trick with putting the stabilizer under the slider. I’ve never heard of anyone trying that before but it seems like a good idea
Makes sure the slider hits the air first once the cocoon unravels. Otherwise you run the risk of air getting between the stabilizer and slider, creating pressure above the slider and forcing it down the lines prematurely.

Awesome! Glad it was helpful. For wingsuit, the packjob is fairly the same. I’d focus more on flying your body through the deployment instead of packing advice. Only thing squirrel recommends is to leave the cocoon wrapped a little lighter near the label. Otherwise technique if your flare will have a much bigger on openings.

i have 10 jumps on my new rig and im pretty disappointed that i couldnt figure this out. ill be back at the dz in a few weeks and hoping i can get it on my own. when its busy you feel like youre taking up too much space and taking too long really hope this transfers into action for me. thanks for the video
Learning to pack with this, thanks. s folds are killing me still - this method is easier with your body movements and keeping the cocoon tight, I can get it in the bag, but I struggle keeping the lines taut when making the folds. With the regular s fold way you start at the grommets/lines and that fold naturally keeps the lines taut but then the cocoon is a nightmare to manage lol.
Milk the line excess and leave it in the bag. As long as they’re not a crazy amount of difference between the right and left line groups, you should be fine. Ask someone more experienced around you to take a look next time you get it in the bag 🙌🏻
So after I get my class A license and don't want a packer to pack mine, it's all on me or should I get more training in packing? And do some canopies have different tricks during the packing? Thank you
Hands on teaching is going to be your best bet. Most canopies are identical. Once you start getting into the smaller canopies or fully elliptical shaped main parachutes, the D or C lines may only have 2-3 lines. Flaking still works the same way. As long as all the lines are in the center and fabric is to the outside, you’re fine 🙌🏻
A thing worth mentioning is that you probably don’t want to wrap the top that much as it may cause extra wear on the tail when this wrap force-unwraps during opening.
There’s really only 2-3 things that you HAVE to make sure are set for a parachute to work. - pilot chute - continuity of the lines is correct - slider in place. The rest is really just comfort and controlling the speed/cleanliness of the packjob.
Just to be a pedant, it's a cuboid not a cube. A cube is a 3-dimensional shape where each side is of equal length. I've never seen a cube shaped D-bag. But yeah, I get it, how many people know what a cuboid is🙂? A relatively small percentage of the population. Then how many people care about accurately naming a shape🙂? An even smaller percentage. So yup, being pedantic. 🤪 Great packing tutorial, thank you 🙏.
Excellent walkthrough, one possible suggestion is the Brian Germaine technique of folding the pilot chute to avoid a horseshoe malfunction in case of premature deployment: ruclips.net/video/axCeYlY_6io/видео.html Loved the back-to-front flaking technique. Going to start using that for myself, as your folds were way cleaner, plus you actually can see the individual line groups much clearer.
Yes this is the one thing that is missing. Yeah you can maintain your gear and still have an out of sequence deployment. If the bag comes out and you can't reach and extract the PC for whatever reason, that might be an inconvenience to you. It's easy to test. Try and pull your PC out with just the bridle. If it bunches up and doesn't slide out, maybe think about changing your technique. This is the best packing video by far. I would like to see one with your WS rig and semi stowless!
A smaller parachute is always easier to pack. Too bad you didn't show them how to untwist the steering lines. Very important. Learn how to fold a parachute properly.

As a professional skydiver and competitor, I would recommend hiring a packer. Have 2 rigs. Drop one to your packer. Jump the other, repeat. Lol😅
