My favourite thing about this show is the way the character of Louis is written and portrayed (which is exactly why I made this compilation). He's one of the most compelling main characters I've seen on TV in a while. I can't guarantee you that you will like this show or all of the writing choices made, but this version of Louis is absolutely delightful to watch.

It's difficult otherwise because they talk over eachother, which is realistic in an argument, and they both have accents I have a hard time understanding without subtitles. I adore Louis. He's my favourite character and I will defend his rights and wrongs as long as there are fan spaces on the internet. I essentially made a compilation of my favourite moments of his during season one and gave it a silly little title because it's a silly little fan edit. It could have been "Louis being sassy" or "Louis' best moments". My calling him a little shit is affectionate if anything, and everyone else on this comment section except you seems to get it. I don't know how you managed to look into it so much and pull a whole analysis out of it, but it's not that deep.

"Lestat wasn't perfect" is the understatement of the century. Louis acts the way he does because he's an abuse victim who's in denial about being abused and still in love with his abuser. I agree that he shouldn't have taken Lestat back, but Lestat didn't keep his own promises and continued to abuse his family after he claimed he'd changed. So Louis retreated even more, dissociated completely, and Claudia was once again trapped. I'm not condoning murder here, more violence is never the solution to violence, but Lestat really didn't leave Louis and Claudia (especially Claudia) with a lot of options, did he? The real question here is not why Louis agreed to go with Claudia's plan, the real question is if they could have escaped Lestat any other way.

Lestat sugarcoated vampirism with nice words that gave Louis the illusion of choice, but it was never really there. *That* is the only bad decision that I don't hold Louis accountable for. The rest is on him and nobody else. The interview (both times), killing the alderman, putting up the "colored only" sign even though a person of color told him it was a bad idea, adopting Claudia, taking Lestat back (Lestat did promise he'd changed, but did anyone believe him?), not burning Lestat's body, staying with Armand for decades (and calling him the love of his life). Louis will make the worst decision possible in any given scenario, that's his whole thing and yes, it is very confusing.
Idk, but I do think that Louis didn't know much else other than Lestat. Lestat was his implied first real long-term relationship, let alone with another man. And maybe he thought he deserved Lestat? Like, even if Lestat was pretty much evil, Louis considered himself evil too and thought staying with him was the punishment and fate he deserved. The two have a very interesting relationship, it's fun to speculate.
