This is a great film, certainly one of finches best. This film is literally the OPPOSITE of seven. I agree with Mark though, the murder scenes are some of the most disturbing you'll EVER see, for the main reason it's based on real life.
There is not one false note in this film. From photography through editing to the performances; every part of "Zodiac" is flawless. I agree with the good doctor on post of his points, but not on Robert Downey Jr. He's always brilliant.
The studio marketed this film terribly...just watch the trailer...it comes across as some dark comedy or something. This was a masterfully put together...such a great film.
I think one part of this film i love is the all the presidents men style of the work. I also think it is so chilling the basement 😮 and it’s greatly acted by Gyllenhaal
Director David Fincher’s direction gives off chills, great camerawork & has A terrific cast that understands the realistic characters they are playing in this terrific true crime mystery. (87%) (4.5/5 stars) (positive)
Great movie. Agree that the only thing that lets it down is the paul avery character being used as a vehicle for robert downey jr to appear on screen playing robert downey jr.
I heard people saying that about Skyfall and Argo recently, but that only seems like that it means that the movie is mainly story driven and doesn't need to rely on elaborate action scenes.
This is a brilliant, brilliant film. However, seven will forever be fincher's masterpiece. Aesthetically it's one of the most remarkable horror films i've ever seen.
It is LOOOOOOng....and does drggggg.......kermode is so convinced...its good but it does drggg...i cnt remember his name but the fact kermode didnt mention it shows what n verge critic he is... the "killer" in this movie is great, the actor who plays him.
Yes he was technically wrong, but I think the point he was trying to make is that it's not a mystery, it's not a whodunnit, that in fact the identity of the killer doesn't really matter at all, and that's the whole point, he's no-one, we never find out who he is at all and it doesn't matter because it's not about that.
It's a great film but Downey Jnr's role is totally superfluous to the film and as a consequence, if it was cut out, the film would have substantially benefited from being a fair bit shorter.
Its your job to watch movies. Give it a rest mate you could have to work in a blistering hot mine or other life risking jobs. I'd review what you decide to complain about on radio when others listening may actually envy your position and would rather do your job than one of their life threatening jobs lol
I wouldn't say 'brilliant'....brilliant & likewise words such as flawless; pertain to Pacino, De Niro, Redford, Portier, Hopper, Fonda, Duvall, Hackman and Martin Sheen circa 1970's-early 80's. Downey has a strong screen presence & brings his persona to every role, but he ain't brilliant sweetheart. That's a little bit of a slap in the face to those earlier avant-garde method actors, to define Downey as brilliant. The ONLY roles he EVER stretched himself with were in NBK & Tropic Thunder :)
Zodiac has a number of issues, not least the fact that it's based on Robert Graysmith's crackpot musings and therefore distorts the facts significantly. Its representation of Paul Avery as a drunk is pretty disgraceful. Also, Robert Graysmith's home life is of no interest to anyone. It's heavily derivative of Memories of Murder, a much superior murder mystery and probably the best ever made.
I enjoyed the film but always wonder whether these "based on a true story" efforts are mere stylish guff or are actually getting to the truth. Put it this way, JFK was a very well-made and well-acted movie, but that doesn't prevent it from being total nonsense.
+JoeStunner I have not read Greysmith's book but from what I am aware of. Fincher went to great lengths to make it as authentic as possible. Even to go so far as to film the lake murders at the original sight and even import trees that where there at the time but got uprooted later. He even used the eye witness testimony of the survivers to match what was said as accurately as possible.
+Whitman There's a documentary amongst the DVD extras - 90+ minutes of interviews with those closely connected to the case - that gives a very balanced assessment of the events and arguments for Arthur Leigh Allen being the Zodiac killer. I think it's on RUclips too - well worth a look.
I think one part of this film i love is the all the presidents men style of the work. I also think it is so chilling the basement 😮 and it’s greatly acted by Gyllenhaal
"Zodiac" Is A David Fincher Masterpiece.
Brilliant, brilliant film, amongst Fincher's best.
This is a great film, certainly one of finches best. This film is literally the OPPOSITE of seven. I agree with Mark though, the murder scenes are some of the most disturbing you'll EVER see, for the main reason it's based on real life.
"Before I kill you I'm going to throw your baby out the window"
Damn, that line still really chills me.
Gay
Zodiac is to me, what the exorcist is to mark kermode.
in one of his last letters ,the zodiac said that he thought the exorcist was a good comedy or similar
Definitely Finchers best
Seven is a masterpiece but Zodiac is also phenomenal!
Zodiac is a masterpiece.
I thought Mark Ruffalo was incredible in this film.
Best movie of the 21st Century so far.
In my top 10 greatest movies i have ever seen!
This still holds up as a masterpiece of a film. It’s pretty much flawless. It doesn’t put a step out of place.
There is not one false note in this film. From photography through editing to the performances; every part of "Zodiac" is flawless.
I agree with the good doctor on post of his points, but not on Robert Downey Jr. He's always brilliant.
Except the pacing. Boy does this movie drag in the second half.
@@stevenborg102 for me not at all
@@stevenborg102 disagree entirely!
Ugh. The Hyperbole of Average People is so annoying
Superb film one of my favourites
The studio marketed this film terribly...just watch the trailer...it comes across as some dark comedy or something. This was a masterfully put together...such a great film.

This is my favourite ever film.
I really thought RDJ was excellent as Paul Avery
Director David Fincher’s direction gives off chills, great camerawork & has A terrific cast that understands the realistic characters they are playing in this terrific true crime mystery. (87%) (4.5/5 stars) (positive)
Great movie. Agree that the only thing that lets it down is the paul avery character being used as a vehicle for robert downey jr to appear on screen playing robert downey jr.
definitely one of fincher's best and also his most underrated...
Zodiac and Memories of Murder are both fine films, though the latter is a masterpiece.
@artcom late reply director bong said that zodiac was one of the inspirations for memories of murder
Brilliant movie
What the movie did great was all the tension, it's not all about showing as much action as it can.
“Robert Downey jr playing Robert Downey jr and that’s all he seems to do now” - ah some things never change
Great movie, nice review.
I heard people saying that about Skyfall and Argo recently, but that only seems like that it means that the movie is mainly story driven and doesn't need to rely on elaborate action scenes.
Steve Hillage and Gong are amazing. For shame, Kermode. For shame.
LoL. He nailed Michael Moore.
"I'm not Paul Avery"......
@barooney its based on a book that came out almost 20 years before memories of murder
Wow, Mark saw Queen at Hyde Park? Thats awesome
Fuck Queen. Hillage was the real treat,
i thought the last 45 minutes was tedious. i guess that was the point.
I walk out at the end of most films. :-P
Is he at the cricket?
This is a brilliant, brilliant film. However, seven will forever be fincher's masterpiece. Aesthetically it's one of the most remarkable horror films i've ever seen.

I hope everyone here has seen Se7en
@claptonfreak6 what showdown?
I liked it the third act tended to be pulled out too far.
He just claimed that in seven you find out who the killer is early on, no you don't. Spacey does not show up until the third act.
Yep.
You find out relatively early, which was obviously his point. Not sure how you missed that one.
@Nectarine Dreams Not sure how you class the third act as "relatively early".
@barooney Zodiac was based on an actual event so I dont see how that makes it a rip-off , mate
There's a scene in Zodiac where Robert Downy Jr. snorts cocaine in public and it's the most authentic portrayal of anything I've ever seen in a movie.
TreeroyJ did you watch the directors cut?
Zodiac is good, but I would say it is in the second tier of Fincher’s films(which I would include “Panic Room”). It’s good, but not great.
Which film would you say is his best? I would say its between Zodiac, Se7en and The Social Network. I'm just curious.
@claptonfreak6
It's a great film but Downey Jnr's role is totally superfluous to the film and as a consequence, if it was cut out, the film would have substantially benefited from being a fair bit shorter.
'Robert Downey jr sounds like Robert Downey jr' in whatever he does . These days hes Robert Downey jr in an iron suit. More money less acting.
Its your job to watch movies. Give it a rest mate you could have to work in a blistering hot mine or other life risking jobs. I'd review what you decide to complain about on radio when others listening may actually envy your position and would rather do your job than one of their life threatening jobs lol
People don't like this because of the lack of action, sorry but thats a bad argument.

wow calm down , you take life to seriously..

Lol no
Hah, that's your opinion, sweetheart.
Steve Hillage is great! Queen are boring!
Gong > Queen

massive rip off of memories of murder
How can it be a rip off if it’s a true story
I think one part of this film i love is the all the presidents men style of the work. I also think it is so chilling the basement 😮 and it’s greatly acted by Gyllenhaal
