I still prefer Denoise to Photo AI for noise reduction.

I bought all the Topaz apps when they came out, and Photo AI when it came out. Today Photo AI is sufficient for my needs now. It's virtually, no pun intended, part of my post processing for the majority of my shots. Thanks for the info Anthony..

I wish they would update Topaz Studio 2. Great product.

I, like many others here prefer Denoise AI vs Photo AI as it gives me more control. I hope they keep bringing innovation to Denoise AI and Sharpen AI. They promised continued upgrades for one year when I bought these software but there were no upgrades. That does not resonate with the philosophy of Tapaz labs. I hope they are reading this.

Interesting topic and well worth consideration.

Some commenters here say that for them, Photo AI is inferior to individual apps DeNoise AI and Sharpen AI. I have the latest version of all three of these apps. DeNoise AI and Sharpen AI gave more control over adjustments than version 1 of Photo AI, so I preferred them too a year ago, but Topaz has fixed that problem with Photo AI version 2.3.2 out now. The subject selection tool is better than in Sharpen AI now. Occasionally Photo AI can still distort faces, but by checking and manually dialing back the settings in Photo AI when distortion is seen, one can generally get results as good or better as in the individual apps (which can also distort faces when set too aggressively). And the speed of just using one app, Photo AI, over the older individual apps is very helpful.
I'm not seeing the color shifts some complain about. I'd recommend that people unhappy about color shifts should try setting image files to a neutral color profile and then touching up color later in another app

Love your videos. ❤ One question, why buy Gigapizel AI when you have Photo AI?

I get to save update money in 2024. I prefer the individual apps and use DeNoise as part of my processing flow. I have Sharpen and Gigapixel, too for once in a while use. Thank you for this video, it reinforces my choices.

Yeah, me too, but it looks like the individual apps were not getting up date for a fairly long time, while Photo AI got updates very frequently. Even though, the three individual apps can still do a better job than Photo AI for each individual function.

I usually get better results using either DenoiseAI or Sharpen AI over PhotoAI. I don't understand why Topaz Labs can't make PhotoAI work as well as older Apps.

I trialed Photo AI recently, it seemed to be super basic in what you could control compared to the full apps it looks like it's trying to replace plus I got some really dodgy results on some images where it couldn't understand the difference between dof and out of focus so random faces that are in the background of a scene and so out of focus would, suddenly have a really artificial face slapped onto them!

I "was" a Topaz customer for many years and bought just about everything they released, but then they started abandoning apps and their roadmap indicates that business model will continue, so I am no longer a customer. Screw Topaz.

What if any advantage does Gigapixel AI have over the upscaling feature in Photo AI?

  • @Graygeezer

I’m really disappointed that Sharpen AI and Denoise AI are being neglected. In recent times, I have gotten better results with the original products when Photo AI produced harsh results and color shifts. I do understand their previously stated goal of a fully automated enhancement product, but I feel cheated that I renewed my bundle and found both Denoise AI and Sharpen AI were removed.

They are both built into Photo AI now, no longer stand alone programs.

Confused as to your comment about wildlife photographers buying both giga and photo ai if photo ai offers upscaling?

  • @DanOhPhotography

I am using three old individual appsDeNoise AI, Sharpen AI, and new, Gigapixel Al and they are GREAT!!! however, photo AI and video AI are pretty bad product. Photo AI produces lots of color, noise and overdose it and video AI has a poor performance and removing noise and sharpening. I returned video AI.

    • @ktjankabar
      @ktjankabar 3 месяца назад +1

I’m also primarily using the three older applications but I didn’t upgrade giga this year because I wasn’t sure if they would offer more than one update. I do have photo ai but haven’t yet tried to upscale there. For me photo ai is best for people shots but the standalones are much better/faster for wildlife

@@ktjankabar New Gigapixel is really good. Sharpens with natural look and of course upscale well. I feel they introduced Photo AI to increase revenue rather than people buying individual Apps (some buy just one or two) However they were not ready for good product that gets rid of color noise and over sharpening even if you turn it down manually

I've seen some weird things happen with Photo AI too, and Video AI for that matter. But I do really like them both and I use both frequently. Video AI is my primary workhorse though, it can do and has done some amazing things. The Shining in 4K has never before looked so good! I repair and upscale a lot TV shows and movies, nothing that I have ever used can do it better than Video AI.

    • @Finite-Tuning
      @Finite-Tuning 3 месяца назад +1

Hahaha, I think it was out of date at that time, but I also think that's when I purchased it as well. It has some really neat effects that I've not see in other programs. Luminar Neo is similar, but way more in both cost and capability. Studio 2 is a dead horse unfortunately.
      Cheers 🍻

I found Gigapixel 7 @x1 gave me better results than Photo Ai. Photo AI produced sharpening artefacts I couldn’t remove in comparison. So I don’t think you can just say Photo AI does what Gigapixel does. You need to test.

  • @Finite-Tuning

I own everything listed here and gotta say, I'm a big fan of Topaz products in general but Gigapixel doesn't seem relevant anymore since Photo AI does the same thing. It seems obvious to me the design plan is to combine a photo suite and a video suite. If that is the case, I just don't understand Gigapixel, it does not have a reason to exist since it's redundant. I guess cost could be a reason though, depending on the time of year, otherwise just wait for the Black Friday/Christmas deals and then it's a no brainer.
I too own every product they make, and now only two of them seem to be relevant anymore. Also it is listed on their website that Denoise and Sharpen AI are included into Photo AI already and will not be available anymore as stand alone products.
    Cheers 🍻

As for now Denoise AI is way better than Photo AI for high ISO

  • @jpdj2715

"AI" comes in different flavours. The oldest bunch is about clever algorithms as a simple definition. As in old-school deBayerisation (raw processing or raw conversion) digital artefacts are generated, we know these as cross-bleeding of colours across the edge between two blobs in an image. Or as Moiré. The detection of those edges (through convolution) and prevention of cross bleeding would be called AI in, say, 1990 already.
Along these lines, I would call 90% of what the naive call colour noise or luminance noise "inadequate or failed deBayerisation".
The conspiracy after all is that "we" shoot raw files with a colour-blind sensor (that is analogue in fact) that consist of monochrome data elements and a program or an application magically turns monochrome red data elements into RGB pixels and mutatis mutandis does this for green and blue too.
To make making Bayer noise disappear easier, an OLPF was placed in the cameras and that works OK up to a point (of detail resolution), but it costs dynamic range (DR), contrast envelope (DR available in a single shot), colour space, low light sensitivity, and above all sharpness from beautiful expensive lenses. Above a certain resolution, the OLPF is a problem and Nikon Eliminated it in the D800E version of the D800 . These cameras are otherwise identical and the sharpness impact is easily seen in DxOMark if you take the sharpest F-mount lens ever, and compare D800 and D800E with that lens - shocking. You can also see the marginal effect on sharpness from differences in MP, using that same lens to compare first a 24MP D camera to the 36MP D800 (both have the OLPF) and next the 36MP D800E to the 45MP D850 (OLPF absent in both). The biggest jump in improvement is the removal of the OLPF.
That is relevant here, as Topaz was the first to give us better removal of Bayer noise in their "DeNoise AI" app - followed by DxO with PhotoLab (in the DeepPRIME algorithm that they sell standalone as PureRAW plug-in).
Adobe took more than 10 years to give us denoise in the optional Enhance function.
And that is what we need to get proper images from our high resolution raw shots taken without OLPF.

Photo AI is so inferior to Lightroom’s denoising. They really need to improve it.
