a) I think the 113 million figure is a little inflated, as this is a foue year extension instead of a 5 year extension.
b) JB is a former 2nd round pick, who had shown some of his potential in the playoffs before signing with the Knicks, while never being able to shine, while playing in Luka's shadow!
The Knicks did take a huge gamble on his free agent signing, which did pay off great!

I also think the Scouting department becomes more important than ever.. and you will see more team's begin to look to sign more young drafted player's longer and top G-League talent. Along with searching for those best Mid-level player's.
Also instead of team's looking to sign the best "Star" talent available. It will be the new best rising talents like Hartenstein types to try and get for around the 25 mil mark. Those will be the moves we will see more of in the future.

I also think he loves his situation. the team traded for all of his old college teamates and there a good team with a good fanbase and in new york city. probably is just happy how it is.
The incentive is that the team isn't hamstrung/salary is tied up such that the team should perform well. A few stars like Duncan and Dirk took cuts to help their team albeit they were at the end of their careers as opposed to hitting their prime.

Contract includes 50% of the salary up front every year and other bells and whistles so we definitely is being taken care of.
