I tried to use the threat of the Yule Cat on my three year old daughter last year. It didn't work as she decided that the Yule Cat brings Christmas presents in the form of our cat Onyx. This year she says she is going to magically turn our black cats Onyx and Obsidian into magical Yule Cats so they can bring presents.
Wow, this is the first time I've seen someone use Yule Cat in modern times Iceland, I remember learning it when I was a child 20+ years ago but wasn't scared of it nor did my parents threaten me with it.
my family is Hungarian, and we celebrate St. Nicholas day on the 6th when we put gifts in the shoes outside. My parents are Christian but so cool to hear about all these other traditions!! Can't wait for Yule 🐐🌲🕯🌟

I saw the Krampus Run in Whitby on RUclips yesterday and it really looked like fun! Great video on Yule!
We have kind of a Wassailing tradition in Ukraine. We call it Shchedruvannya here. The world know it as Caroling actually) These songs Shchedrivka are about to call welfare and prosperity. In the villages, people take a goat with them, decorate it with ribbons and walk around the village and gardens, singing shchedrivkas. Or one of the boys dresses up as a goat, decorates himself with ribbons, horns and sings along with everyone.

Happy Solstice. I feel I have a deep connection to paganism. The cycles of the sun and nature and connection to the world. For me it's a time for contemplation, rebirth and celebration and hope with the return of the longer days.

I live in America, but my father is from Germany and mom Finland, so we mix everything up, I have God yule across my porch with 2 yule goats and I put a Mjölnir on one, with a Finland flag In the head, and decorated my tree with a bunch of nisse's, and a yule blessings with a log garden flag . I'm guessing the 9 day yule log. My Christian neighbors are confused lol. And the yard is tomte city lol
God Jul! Lovely video! You are lucky you had a Hungarian tell you of their holiday trads, I lived in Hungary for 6yrs and never had 1 Hungarian person EVER share their holiday celebrations with my father and I. When we would ask people, they would always tell us that since we were black Americans they will not share their culture with us! Made us sad that at a time when it is about kindness and festiveness people where we lived let racist views be stronger than the Christmas, holiday spirit!
Thankfully where I live in Sweden people are more than happy to share holiday trads with me so it has been nice learning these past few years! Yes the Jul Goat is a super big deal here! Which I love it as I am a Capricorn! He hee.

Rice porridge for the Nisse now in the barn. Meat and beer in the old days. But i think they only eat the essence because i saw the toothfairy as a kid. It looked like Tinkerbell. Maybe the ritual of tooth in a æn eggholder or glass of water works and they are actually interested in the tooth. I doubt any hideen video recording of the porridge would show it actually eating it. We also remove the bark on birch sticks and boil salted sheep meat on them in Norway. Our version of Halloween was 'Julebukk' we dress up and sing carols on new years eve. Also an almond in the rice porridge gives the price of s marcipan pig for the winner who finds it and we put 'nellik' the black flavory sticks of some sort into oranges and put them up. And our gingerbread are called peppercake. So maybe more pepper in. And i grew up near the gingerbread village in Bergen 'Pepperkakebyen' Kinda like legoland but in gingerbread

I have family in ireland and britian and we leave up our christmas tree up until january 6th, on december 24th we may or not open 1 gift and on christmas day we had a big turkey for christmas dinner.. it had stuffing, potato, gravy, and other veggies

Being pagan I find the planet split in to two , I hope I explain myself well enough in the following observations…

Yule as you know it is celebrated at a different time of year as to what the southern hemisphere Yule is …
For the north it is December
For the south it is mid year when we have winter; on the shortest day of the year…
Both celebrate at the same time of season how ever the seasons are months and months apart…
Sadly I notice that people in the south rarely if ever receive Yule blessings from anyone in the North as celebrating Yule mid year is not understood or recognised in the north…
I myself always express Yule blessings to friends in the north in December yet have never received Yule blessings in June from the North for our Yule …
I have no doubt they do not realise not sharing Yule time blessings with people in the south in June is like denying their own Yule time existence as pagans etc
Just a little quirks I have noticed between the north and the south…
So many times I have met people who have shifted from the north too the south celebrating Yule in December when they live in the south , when it should be June…

Here in Norway it is not uncommon to put out rice porridge for the barn nisse 😊😊 as kids we used to dress up as a nisse, go to the neighbours and sing. We got a little treat in return. This was called to go julebukk (juleram)God jul 😊

I think in the US the household spirit is called the elf on the shelf. I’ve never done it, but I know a lot of friends who have it’s a mischievous little elf, who does things throughout the night plays pranks, and jokes on the family and watches over the children for Santa.✨

Been studying paganism the Celtic calendar for many years
2000 years ago Britain followed the Celtic calendar and one of those holidays was called Yuletide which was actually celebrated from the 21st of December to 1st of January this tradition came from Europe and Scandinavia the Yule log and the Christmas tree
This holiday is also called Winter Solstice as it begins to get light again from the 21st of December
Britain did not become a Christian country until
The Romans invaded and introduced the Georgian calendar which is why we now celebrate Christmas on the 25th as it was made a Christian holiday
Before that in the United Kingdom we followed the Celtic calendar and was not a religious country we were considered spiritual similar to the ancient Egyptians as we believed in gods as they did

You said it right saying the vibe comes on because nature wants people to slow down and eat and drink during winter. I think our biological cellular body and mind we share collectively that contains chemicals such as hormones and phenotype genes that adapt and modify according to our environment trigger these cultural tendencies based on the ecological system we grow up in. I was born and bred in the woodland ecological system of Europe (Belgium). I identify with all these warm and cozy traditions. Clues can be found in things such as ancient woodlands containing things such as river banks, ditches, overgrown hedges, old deer parks, farms and ancient boundaries of trees and parish districts in old maps. I recently named my retro interior design mood board for a corridor "Campfire Smoked Wood". Regarding the supernatural entities that seem to exist in all cultures I believe these thing exist because I have seen them. It was a collective experience with others too. So I know that I did not imagine it. However the fact that all cultures around the world also have similar needs based on the elements of nature that form fire, water, earth and air temperaments may also play a part like a springboard for these entities to manifest.

Does anyone know if there are any pagan rituals/traditions for New Years Eve / New Years Day, I've done some research that mentions that pagan culture celebrated it but I can't see any specific ritual to try, any help or advice would be appreciated :)

As I understand it. It is an amalgam of traditional traditions. Morphing into what we see today. The Christmas tree has no record before the 14th century. And started in the Rhine Valley. I still like it even if there are sources to base anything on. Every group of people that came to the Americas added to it. That makes it even better.

We were discussing this tonight at our Solstice observance. People slaughtered animals because it was finally cold enough to keep the meat fresh long enough to process it. Not necessarily sacrifices
I hope so. It made me sad to hear anything about animal sacrifice. I'm sure it would be difficult to be a vegetarian back then, but I'm also sure they wouldn't want to waste (sacrifice) any food.

Many people call mythology the Divine . Egyptian, Greek ,Roman Norse, etc. All mythologies are prototypes of Christ ! It's OK to believe but not to worship ! The Holy Bible mentions many God's & Goddesses . Christ was the final sacrifice ! The creator designed his birthday on the 25th to overshadow all pagan worship ! I to have an interest in Norse Mythology, all of them really !

Thank you for this video. I do have something that confuses me, could you maybe address this in another video? Using the word "Christmas" when discussing pagan rituals. To me, Christmas is just what it says..Christ mass. If one doesn't believe in Christ why would they include it in their celebration?
Honestly for me it’s just as simple as language. I grew up with the word Christmas to describe this time of year, it’s ingrained in me deeply, I didn’t hear the word Yule until I was older, so when I think of this time I think of it as Christmas.
So Christmas is what comes out of my mouth sometimes naturally, it’s understandable as a concept for people who are trying to learn (or typing in and searching for) winter-related information too.
Many pagans also use the word Lammas instead of Lughnasadh for harvest which is also a Christian word. I think it just goes back to what I was saying, everything is a big mish mash jumble pot of culture, language, tradition and religion and you are a product of that.
So basically no excuse, just what I grew up with 😅

The Christmas tree is first mentioned in the German Rhineland of the 1520's - so nothing pagan about it at all.
