    When ed went into boxing, he lived around the corner from me, and we ran together in Central Park most days, a few times around the reservoir and then brutal wind sprints. He worked hard. after a while, we were joined by ray mancini, a nice kid then. the one thing ed told me was that he had hurt his shoulder in college but didn't want to have surgery because it might cost him his position in the draft, but as a result in boxing, he had a miserable time throwing a left hook. Between that, and I think he missed his teammates, he thought it was time to go back.
    Credit to him though, the career was no joke; he went about it the right way, training very seriously and taking on opponents not far from his level so he could improve with each bout. He had excellent trainers too with Murphy Griffith and Dave Wolff in his corner.
    the thing I remember most about Ed was that the usual massive ego you see in pro athletes (I used to be a sportswriter) was gone with Ed. He was just a regular, pleasant guy but a marvelous athlete.

    Great video. I agree, any person that intentionally falsely accuses someone of a crime, should do time. They should do the same amount of time the person accused did or could have done if convicted. The talent you have to tell these stories definitely separates you from many. Blessings. 🥊💎💕🙏🏾😇

      The ONLY Way that a man can be certain in 2022 that he has the
      consent of a woman to have sex with a her is to get it in writing upfront.
      If you think that's a joke, then one day the punch line to that joke may be you.

    As a die-hard Cowboy fan, it broke me up that Too Tall had retired to pursue boxing. I recall how heavily promoted his fights were. During football games, they had commercials for his upcoming fights. To me it always seemed coincidental how his boxing career so closely was attached to the NFL season. I always felt it was a holdout/contract tactic. In the end Too Tall had his best years following his return. Became All Pro and made 3 pro bowls.

    If Too Tall had played the 1979 season with Dallas, I really think they would have made it to Super Bowl XIV versus Pittsburgh and possibly could have beaten the Steelers. The Dallas Doomsday Defense suffered that year without Too Tall.

    • @nuffsaid783
      @nuffsaid783 Год назад

      Just think about it. If Too Tall had played in the 21-19 playoff loss to LA, I truly believe Dallas would have won. It was a tight game and the Rams won off of two really big plays. So if Dallas had met Pittsburgh in the Super Bowl they would have probably won as the Steelers were not as strong as the year before. The Rams ran and passed all over the Steelers in SB XIV so I think Dallas would have beaten the Steelers. Just sayin'........

I loved him as a football player so it was emotion to me to heat the bad reviews of his boxing matches. Football is where he should have stayed your video helped me acknowledge he never should been a pro boxer. Thanks for the video.

      Should've, Could've, and Would've is ALL Bull Sh!t !!!
      My money says that the Cowboys were behind all that Bad Publicity,
      and that phony rape charge too !!!
      Too Tall wasn't given enough opportunity to prove himself as a Boxer.
      He really didn't have a choice but to return to the Cowboys.
      After that phony rape charge, he saw the handwriting on the wall.
      This is an EXCELLENT Video, but there was much more happening
      behind the scenes than even this Street Smart YT producer knows..
      BIG Money made sure that Jones would fail as a Boxer.

      Yes he would, how many NFL players walking around 6'9" ,a select few and that's it . Historically ,a few boxers equaled or eclipsed his height ,that's it . How many baseball players equaled or surpassed his height ,not many . How many of those gentlemen could excell.at multiple sports like Jones ,he would still be too tall today ,in physical stature and athletic accomplishments ,the lable furs him well on various ways .

    • @connshawnery6489
      @connshawnery6489 2 года назад

      @@haroldmccoy6748 People in general have grown considerably in height in the last 30-40 years. Tyson Fury is 6’9, Anthony Joshua is 6’7, Deontay Wilder is 6’7, along with a host of other giants. They had to add a tier to the olympics to account for this increase in the size of heavyweights. The disparity was massive between Jones and a heavyweight like Muhammad Ali who stood at 6’3 for example but today he wouldn’t necessarily be ‘too tall’ within the same degree as he once was.

Boxing was a different time back then with real blood and guts guys and to see Jones go out there with limited skills fighting limited opposition and get the headline over those guys wasn't respected imo by the boxing community. Ed Jones was an exceptional and rare athlete !.. but that only gets you an invitation to the beating in any combat sport. These guys would be gator bait for Larry Holmes or any ranked HW. I remember seeing short video clips on TV from one of Ed Jones' fights... He was awful, not a skilled fighter. He lacked the balance and agility in the ring necessary for success. Larry Holmes or John Tate or Mike Weaver or any top ranked HW would have punched him out of the ring.

    Here's something for you to ponder over....despite the ludicrous network tv hype over Jones' fight vs "Yaqui" Meneses, Yaqui beat the shyt of him for all to see, despite the results. Yaqui is from a small town in Sonora, Mexico, always a very strong kid, just chubby looking, sort of like today's Andy Ruiz (though not of that elite an amateur as Ruiz was early on).
    We share a common thread within Yaqui's family though we've never met.
    Yaqui had absolutely no fear in facing Jones. After the fight, Yaqui returned to his hometown where he continues to be a celebrity and Too Tall returned to the Cowboys.
    It was Yaqui who persuaded Jones to "think" twice about the game and CBS matchmakers to slowly avoid losing both cred' and ratings by booking these nationally televised bouts with arrogant ball players thinking they could box in main events vs real professionals.

    Yeah I saw the fights. The answer to all your questions is donde esta el dinero. He was quite frankly fucking hopeless. As much of a great athlete as he was considered in team sports, he was completely inept at boxing. He moved like his feet were in buckets of concrete. He turned around in circles and all that amateur shit. The comparisons to Carnera and Willard are completely unfair. He was far far worse than either of them. I don't know who was responsible but very very obvious to me that the videos were buried because of how completely fucking embarrassing they were. I will guarantee you that all his knockouts were fixed fights. After that first cat nearly cleaned his clock they weren't taking any chances. Also I don't know but it seems to me the most likely explanation for the recantation of the rape charge was somebody paid her off, but it could have been the other scenario I don't know.

    Love your content bro ,but I think your missing the point about the rape allegations.She wasn't lying.She dropped the charges because she was paid off by Ed Jone's attorney.Also ,the reason CBS doesn't make the footage available for RUclips is because of copyright issues.i believe Ed Jones had in his contract that he has a piece of the distribution percentage ,and CBS doesn't want to pay him for that(being that his fights suck).......

      Its called Leverage....The Dallas Cowboys is a Big Business ...At the time of this Situation the Cowboys had a Dominant Team with a Certain Window of Opportunity for Winning & Championships... ED Jones was a Major Chess peice to the Winning ways at the time...When left the Team to pursue Boxing the Team & Franchise suffered Greatly...So what could a Major Conglomerate like the Cowboys do to Force ED Jones to return to the Team you ask????..First by Flexing their Power by using their ties to the media & getting them to report that ED Jones was no good as a Boxer , wasn't worth the attraction & that He should immediately return back to the Cowboys in time for the Playoffs...When that scheme didn't work They went with the Old Business LEVERAGE tactic...By paying a gullible lady thats close to him to say He raped her..
      ( Perfect Timing , during Football's off season)... Also to note , That ED had never before had Rape allegations brought against him then & until this very day & it wasn't like he was Ben Roethlisberger or Some Perv.....Being 6"9 is hard to blend in & some other Women would of came forth to support Her allegations at the time..Besides at that time period Women were practically throwing themselves at ED in the late 70's early 80's...With that Trumped up Allegation against Him , The Cowboys got to show ED their Power & how They as a Organization have the Power to make an Allegation that Severe Dissappear.. In turn using that LEVERAGE to Force ED into abandoning his Boxing Dream & Immediately returning to the Cowboys Team in time for Training Camp , in time for the Start of the Season & In time to resume his Play in that Winning Window of Opportunity they had during that time period...So Basically ED owed the Cowboys a Major Favor because they had the LEVERAGE needed to sway his decision on His Career Choice...So Yeah that Rape Charge was False as a 3 dollar Bill...F.Y.I.

    Think in 71 they still had separate games titles say the African American title game . 71 wasn't that long ago and you look back and I know the feeling being native American you are treated not good but he made to the pros and did great then he tried boxing . Yes he had size and probably power but he closed his eyes and chin way up in the air and in boxing he should've been seriously training when he was playing football and maybe he would've done better
