There really are pete campbell's at every company. I'm 53 and I didn't realize nepotism hires when I was young. I would wonder: "why do they keep that worthless person?" I worked at multiple companies, but didn't have awareness, because it's kept secret. The truth leaks out over time; as people's reputations proceed them. They're not all near as good as pete campbell, good show. Most of the modern petes, dropped out of college, so their family pulls strings to get them a job.
At 62 years of age, I can’t think of any series I’ve ever watched that tops MadMen. The best everything: writing, acting, emotion. So powerful. So human.
I love this show but: The Sopranos The Wire Avatar: The Last Airbender Peaky Blinders Boardwalk Empire (OG) DragonBall Are great examples of comperable television of varying genres
The wheel 😩 Arguably the greatest scene I've ever witnessed Only because the monologue, the set up, the emotion I've never been so moved by a presentation about a product
I bet you have you just don’t remember off hand. And you probably bought whatever it was selling, in which case, it fulfilled its purpose. We all have. That is a powerful scene but it is still a commercial at its core. That’s what they do and what makes the modern world go round
When I first started watching Madmen, I couldn't understand why Don would cheat on Betty. He seemed happily married to her. But after hearing MW explained that he just wanted to be loved for who he is it made sense. Betty loved the idea of him, she didn't even know him. How could she love him when he never let her in?
Don perfectly summed up their relationship and how he felt about himself when he told Betty about his life as Dick Whitman and said “I’m surprised you ever loved me at all”
I found the replies odd since OP in no way implied the show was promoting any of the things he listed. Yet you two assumed he didn't understand the film.
They cut off the whole line; it ends up characteristically assaulting humanity instead of Jews OR anti semites.Which I think is accurate, - no one is innocent.
I didn’t realize all this came from Season 1. I really loved the flashbacks. They gave clues about Draper’s yearning and emptiness. It’s my favorite season.
It's a nice quote but i hope people understand that in the next line Rachael basically read him like a book and told him that he spends his life looking in from the outside hoping he could experience this genuine love that he supposedly disdains.
These seem more like the 'best scenes' than the 'best quotes' Anyway, I think there should be more of Pete's foot-in-mouth quotes. I found this exchange from the pilot pretty great Don Draper: Mencken’s is not Chanel. Rachel Mencken: That’s a vote of confidence. Pete Campbell: What Don’s saying is Chanel is a very different kind of place. It’s French, it’s continental, it’s… Rachel Mencken: Not just another Jewish department store? Pete Campbell: Exactly. He was hopeless in the first season.
Funny how historically accurate Mad Men is, however Penny's typewriter is an IBM Selectric II which wasn't introduced until 1971. The season takes place in 1960. More than likely that ad agency should of been using a 1960 IBM Model C Executive.
+uafc1 Don Drapers/DickWhitmans aging? Jesus, 10 years (33-43 especially) or 1960 to 1970 combined with being a booze hound will do that to a man. In addition to which, the pilot (episode one) was filmed a year before the rest of season 1 (meaning 10 years before season 7). OMG. The elephants are kindly but their dumb.
I don't like the wet look but I'd bet the house that at 45 he still looks a billion times better than you. Bet you have a 'beer belly" the size of a mack truck tire. Does your gun make you feel more "manly?" UR N ODD DUCK DUDE.
Draper: The sentiment. The "idea", it's so basic. You feel like you already know it; You just haven't thought of it lately....... Me: That is some DEEP shit sir. +1 Draper
Its not for everyone. It's a lot of smart and classy humor that you really have to think about to enjoy. You either hate it or love this show, no middle ground.
if I ever do try to quit smoking (fingers crossed) I won't be able to watch this show or clips for years lol I have to smoke when I watch its so satisfying lol
He was going to go with his family on that trip only to go home and discover that they had left without him, which made him berry sad. It's linked to that 'Carousel' pitch earlier in the episode. (the season 1 finale, 'The Wheel', which I would recommend re-watching, because it's brilliant)
That woman on the train at 12:03... When I first saw her I seriously thought for the whole week after that it was Pete Campbell's wife (I forget her name). Did anyone else think that? They look and talk almost exactly the same
Xx, she tried. Remember that early dinner with Roger and Mona, they were all discussing their childhoods and Don didn't participate.. That night in bed, Betty mentioned something about the dinner and the discussion and Don really didn't have much to say. After he went to sleep she whispered in his ear "Who is in there". She wanted to know more about her husband, but he couldn't bear to tell her. Like he told Anna, "I knew as soon as I told her she'd look at me differently, and I was right"
The irony that's made in putting two of these scenes next to each other is fucking hilarious hahaha Don: "People like Jim Hobart only talk business because they never have anything else to say" Don: "I don't know what to say" Jim: "Then don't say anything"
I like the very ending as I could relate to it. The hardest part of divorce has been not walking in at the end of the day and hearing my son run up to me and say, "daddy!"
If you love Mad Men and rock n roll, check out my band's music video for the song "Draper", a song inspired by the greatest television show of all time (1:30)
I remember that. But I think it was the fact that he lied that made her divorce him. Can't blame her. Plus she was already in love with Henry...I miss Don and Betty together though. Even though they only loved the idea of each other, it was a very interesting marriage. These two hot messes belong with each other.
I've got to say the writing is by far what Mad Men does the best. Not only the dialogue, but also with never wasting a word or a second of the 48 minutes an episode spans.
I always thought Jon Hamm would totally played as Bruce Wayne aka Batman. Honestly guys whenever I see Maggie Siff in Mad Men I crack a smile even in Sons Of Anarchy I still crack a smile.
When Don was about to shake hands and he says "Lets take it a little slower, I don't want to wake up...". I don't get it, wake up who? Didn't quite hear that.
"Let's take things a little slower I don't want to wake up pregnant" Best foreshadowing line ever Edit: "Frank Birmingham brings in a man and when they're dozing off Don goes through their wallets" Yet another great foreshadowing line. God this show is so well written
Aw, you forgot one of the best ones:
"How do you sleep at night?"
"On a bed of money"
also when sal says 'have you been to the diamon district?'
absolute killer
made of money
Surrounded by beautiful women
Mad Men is so good, that in the future people will think this show was made in the 60's.
Only except this show came out in 2007.
Thats kinda the point.
Makes me wonder how this show would have been perceived had it actually been made and aired in the 60s
@@Retotion it wouldn’t have been received well at all
@@RomanZolanski123 Why not?
Missed a great one:

"Then let's get one of the other ones"
Season 2
Nope. 1
@@sergetardif9596 yup one. Just watched it.

"Have we ever hired a Jew?" - Roger
"Not on my watch.." - Draper lmao

I mean him lying to his eigen about who is was and is is his fault lol
It's about the 60's, business men, housewives, sex, alcohol and of course cigarettes. The best god damn show there is.
I don't think you understand the show. its far from a glorification of the 60s. The show critiques every single aspect you just mentioned.
It doesn't. It portrays them.
I found the replies odd since OP in no way implied the show was promoting any of the things he listed. Yet you two assumed he didn't understand the film.
Roger is absolutely hilarious; all of his quotes are great
The scene where Don comes home to the loving family, then doesn't, gets me every time. So sad. So lonely.
"Have we ever hired any jews?"
"Not on my watch"
Best thing ever

The range of this show from the 1920s to the 1970s is remarkable.

bellabuie22 Maggie Siff
She's so beautiful and talented
There Margret Kitter she the best Lois Lane and she's astronaut.
I agree with you. She looks like a Lois Lane
These aren't close to the best quotes tho. "What you call love was invented by guys like me to sell nylons" now that's a fooking quote

Mad Men - Ad Men.
Mind blown
Close.
Mad Men. Ad Men from Madison Avenue. Mind double blown.
Damn me.
Calvin Maynard
Not so much. It's in the first scene of the first episode. But yeah... they coined it.
JamesB00n my point exactly. Neither of our revelations are especially mind blowing.
My favorite is "I'm not here to tell you about Jesus....."
and season 4, "Did you enjoy the Furher's Birthday?" "May he live for a thousand years"

Dang John Hamm and Vincent both look so young!!
Brilliant; thanks for posting.
Happiness is a moment before you need more happiness.
The quote where Don talks about happiness is revisted when he referrers to happiness in season 5 as a moment before you need more.
Thanks to LA Noire I want to watch the series.

Dayjon Allen Fuck Betty.
I love Peggy and Don that and Maggie I don't what her name is I'm sorry but I still know her as Tara.
you really just have to watch it and from the beginning! then and only then will you appreciate the beauty that is Mad Men.
Fabulous. Don Draper is our favorite "double agent man". There's just something about that man....

The first season of Archer lifted set pieces from this season . Great show
"You know what its like watching all your ants, going into your hive. I wipe my ass with the wall street journal." Totally unrelated.
When Don sells the Kodac carousal pitch waxing nostalgia I had a lump in my throat and felt my heart would explode. What an awesome scene.
watched the whole series over the weekend and i don't regret it
the first season is the one with the most controversial and funny lines
Campbell's "Ready to go sweet talk some retail Jews?" was epic and should've made it.
Have we ever hired JEWS? not on my watch !!! hahahahahahahah AWESOME !!
10:26 Subtle foreshadowing of Don Drapers honest confession about his childhood during Hershey meeting
@12:31 “Dick!” Don’t worry kid that’s exactly what the nice lady is shooting for.🤣
My favorite show. This and the wire are the only shows I go back to watch certain scenes/episodes

Ah the greatest quote. Lets analyze its deep meanings.
Greatness!
Now do a montage of the best Mad Men musical episode endings.
What is the meaning of the last scene ? I never understood that ...
i enjoy this show a lot more than GoT... maybe because i already read the books
1:10 damn that’s some solid foreshadowing

"I love smoking."....great quote.
Season 1 was great. So many memorable moments!
2:33 Jon Hamm confirmed as Batman
Kitchenaid or Cuisinart? Which kind of blender did you throw these clips into?
Most memorable quote for me was more like a whole scene. The Nostalgia scene with the wheel.
If you love Mad Men and rock n roll, check out my band's music video for the song "Draper", a song inspired by the greatest television show of all time (1:30)

The train scene pretty much sums up Don Draper as a character: burying his guilt with booze and women.
I've got to say the writing is by far what Mad Men does the best. Not only the dialogue, but also with never wasting a word or a second of the 48 minutes an episode spans.
Would that be possible to add the corresponding English subtitles? It is not always easy for a non-native speaker to grab all the words... Thank you!
Jon Hamm should play in the next Batman!
Unforgettable and absolutely moving scene.
great line
Is there anyway you can get the whole clip from 11:30? I need it for a school project. Please help!

make one for the other season please!
When Don was about to shake hands and he says "Lets take it a little slower, I don't want to wake up...". I don't get it, wake up who? Didn't quite hear that.
Pregnant
Pregnant
7:35 What does he mean by that comment?
Draper is a stud.
one of my favorite shows
Your completely right. And it's because people haven't changed.
"Let's take things a little slower I don't want to wake up pregnant"

Wow, I can't believe how much younger everyone looks... what a difference 4 1/2 years makes. Except Roger and Bert...
I don’t remember what season, but the most memorable quote to me was by Don Draper: “You either have Christ in your heart or you don’t.”
I know it's not a quote but you definitely should have had the Deodorant Flame Thrower in there :D
Don Draper is the Don
Ahhh I get the Ylvis skit now!
gotta watch it again
amazing
