I really like how Kal wasn't upset about his father sending him to another earth , he just asked questions so calmly. It's a great portray of how good of a person he is and shows how good Jonathan raised him. Such a great movie.
More like: "I knew it. Since when I was an kid I always feel like I'm different from the other kids. While my parents try everything to comfort me when I'm upset."
The true strength of character for a parent is recognizing their flaws, putting their ego aside to accept them, and making sure their children don't repeat them.
Oh, totally. A character born with super powers that make him a literal god among everyone around him is the very definition of "aspirational". The slogans write themselves: "you too can achieve great things if you are born with the godlike Kriptonian DNA".

If Kal hadn’t been the person he is, someone that can and chooses to see the merit of humanity and every single human being, then he wouldn’t be Superman. He could have just as well turned out like a power hungry, morally disturbed Homelander. This scene here shows that anyone, whichever genes you’re born with, has a choice. A choice between good and evil, hope and despair, courage and cowardice. Kal is Superman because he makes the right choice and keeps doing so every day, even when it’s hard. Humans can too
That's actually an interesting way to put it, because the reason I like this scene so much is just how little it feels like a superhero flick as opposed to just a straight sci-fi movie; superman isn't here to punch baddies or stop runaway trains, he's here to find his place in the universe and continue his homeworld's legacy on Earth.
And maybe he will send a message to whole earth to meet on his ship, tell you a story i didnt, show you the world engine, you may beat him down in smallville because he tried to threaten your mother and so on in the you may break his neck to end this war. At the end of the movie Kal El:- other then being a scientist what other job my father did on krypton i gues🤔🤔🤨🤨 such a great future teller.

Funny enough, in the original Man of Steel we are seen as wild monkeys by standard Kryptonians, been Lara and Jor-El included. The only decent kryptonian is my boy Clark Kent.
His American null accent, while he tries, it's close enough. Henry Cavill does it much better but both, with their null accents here are very easy on the ears.
Russel Crowe is my favorite version of Jor-El. He isn’t cold and emotionless as every other movie and television version has shown. In this movie, Jor-El is a loving father wanting the best for his son.
Which is cool but also strange when you consider he explained how everyone was bread for a special purpose. Or maybe scientists got also quite regularly into fights ...

I mean, wouldn't you do that to yourself? Be all you can be? This is completely justified because they are men of science and their purpose was improve their species genome.

We must think for ourselves, instead of having the director offer us the solution. On the other hand, creating a simpleminded soldier, you make him more obedient and less.. free thinking.
I think Russel Crowe portrays such subtle humility in Jor-El, a man who understood the failings of his world and understood that that if Krypton was to live, then it would be within his son. I wish we had more of this charaterization of Jor-El, I'd love to see his adventures in a mini-series of some kind with Russell Crowe as Jor-El and how he came to the conclusion of having a natural-born child with his wife, Lara.
I agree totally 😎👍It is a shame (with the grand gift of hindsight! 😬) that the Krypton series wasn't the prequel tie-in it was initially envisioned (and still good in it's own way but prematurely axed! 👎) nor was there the bonafide Man of Steel sequel (s) prior to Batman vs Superman and Justice League. If only! 🤔🤷♂️
its a pity we didn't get a superman trilogy and we ended up with justice league trying to be a popcorn film. I liked the serious tone of this film more than the marvel movies

I just want to take a moment to praise how beautiful Henry Cavill was in this scene. The little smile Clark has when he learns his birth name is just so precious and heartwarming. I would love for him to be able to play Superman again; he really deserves to shine more.

Imagine growing up as an adopted and living 33 years while feeling so different from the rest of the world without having any answer to one of the most existential question in order to understand who you truly are including your purpose: Where do I come from? This such a priceless moment.
This is what I love about the tracks from mos and bvs, the tracks just makes me think about the dc universe, universe like space, the countless planets and galaxies and the gods that roam around the universe, gods like Superman, aliens, I prolly don’t know what I’m talking about but it’s just how I feel about these beautiful tracks
I like how Jor-El's construct didn't denigrate the image of General Zod, cause in the end Zod only acted on what he think it's right to save his people.
The problem was that Zod had a narrow image of Kryptonian society and summarily executed anyone who didn't fit in. Jor-El acknowledged that his doomed civilisation had outlived its time.

This exactly why I prefer DC. Because they actually make you think about how these heroes and villains have repercussions in the real world. The film was a complete package and an epic journey from start to finish. I love the graphic novels used, the properly executed punchlines, and the background of the characters introduced.
"You're mother, Lara and I, were a product of the failures of our world as much as Zod was; tied to its fate." That line is so important to me. For the longest time, I was confused about why, with all Jor-El's foresight, he and Lara never went with their son to Earth, teaching them about their home and why he has such power. Knowing that Jor-El wanted Kal, and by extension, Krypton, to have a fresh start, free from all possible positive or negative biases, makes perfect sense.
@@thecolddeath92 Why would he? Krypton was a doomed society and its people were xenophobic and Imperialistic to the tenth degree. Any attempts to recreate it would be doomed from the start. And the only other Kryptonians who belived him about Krypton's destruction and their failed society were Kal's mother and Zod's crew who only had two females in their crew. So even if he wanted to send a female Kryptonian, he couldn't.

Hands down! Zach Snyder's "Man of Steel" is the best Superman movie I have seen in my life thus far! This movie is absolutely phenomenal in my opinion! I find the story, scientific concepts, philosophical ideas, acting, directing, music, cinematography and visual effects to be just powerful! It is definitely one of my favorite movies. I would even say it is one of the top ten films so far from the 2010s decade, along with "Cloud Atlas", "Les Miserables", "Coriolanus", "The Great Gatsby", "Exodus: Gods and Kings" and "12 Years A Slave".
The story adapt to lots of modern's issues. Like illegal, devils and religions. You don't see it on old Superman movies where Superman got welcome right away. People in doubt, that's why protest outside of DC with many carried slogan as "Superman is an ILLEGAL ALIEN" and religious commentary said Superman is an angel or devil.

A symbol isn’t necessarily a letter. It can be anything. Much like how Batman’s symbol is...well, a bat, the house of El happens to look like an S, but it can still mean anything.
I see a lot of comments saying that this movie was underrated and trashed by many. I thought that it was the best Superman movie that I had ever watched. Still enjoy watching it.
Or how powerful he became. He surpassed Prince Vegeta and became the first Super Saiyan in 3000 years defeating Frieza and getting retribution for the entire Saiyan race.
I remember buying 2 imax tickets opening night to this for me and a guy I “dated” and he didn’t show up. And I’m glad he didn’t because that theater experience was incredible it didn’t matter who you were sitting next to or came with. Love this movie so much ❤️
To be honest though, that's why Appkolips and Darkseid are so interested on anything Kryptonian related. Because Krypton was once the cosmic hegemon for those 100,000 years until its downfall. Once the latter happened, Apokolips was free to usurp that position in the universe.
I walked out of that LA theater, believing greatness existed within and that my life is grand. It inspired me to create a wonderous life, here. And to fall more in love with life.
I just love the idea that Superman's dad is trying to impart vast wisdom, and then he gives him a cape. That's neither here nor there, but it is a choice.
I was a kid back then. This movie was way ahead of its time. How Snyder portrayed superman, Clark Kent, Jonathan Kent, jor El,Marta. how masterly explained why krypton is dead. How beautifully portrayed why superman can be something on this planet,how wonderfully lead . To become something meaningful so people on earth can join him in the sun. how brilliant jor El foresaw the calamity and understood that everyone must have their own choice!!! They risk so much to save him!!!

This is a beautiful scene. It conveys so much in such a short amount of time, without feeling contrived or rushed. Both players are superb. They fulfill elegantly all the facts of their characters.
I absolutely loved this part and russel crow did a phenomenal job as the great jor-el. But overall loved the entire movie even downloaded the soundtrack after watching it in theaters loved all the characters.
I'm back here after watching the Synder Cut version of Justice League and scenes like this just make Supermans whole arc between MOS and BVS to his resurrection in JL, actually work great! Hearing Jor El's voice when Superman came back here was awesome.

@Drew Driano The Reeve image of Supes worked in its own era, but not so well in today's outlook. Nowadays it's just too cheesy when put next to every other superhero movie, DC or otherwise. I like how these movies' heroes are designed nowadays, relatively grounded in reality in how the rest of the world reacts to them. Let's not forget, MoS is an origin story. It accurately portrays how a boy with super powers struggled with his identity growing up and ultimately came to find peace with himself and his purpose when he became Superman as an adult. Cavill portrayed this very well. Christopher Reeve and Henry Cavill are both the perfect Superman for their respective eras.

Man of steel and the dark knight trilogy are the best super hero origin movies ever created they really gave a human aspect to these super heroes which is really forgotten most of the time when even though batman is bruce wayne under the mask a human... And superman although being an alien was still raised by human parents...and thats the most important ging many people forget.
This is the best version of Superman, I would not be opposed to a prequel movie (not a series), made by Nolan, with Jor El and his generation. We actually got that with this, I almost forgot, when watching the first minutes of the movie “oh yeah, this is about Kal El on Earth”
Marlon Brando's acting as Jorel was superb and iconic for that time and it is timeless but Russell's acting was dam good too, Brando is the best Jorel ever

There's nothing in this scene that's memorable: _"''They can be great people Kal-El, they wish to be. They only lack the light to show the way. For this reason, above all, their capacity for good; I've sent them you, my only son''"_
The symbol of the House of El is perfect for everything Jor-El is talking about: it's a river. A river is shaped by its banks, but also shapes them into new courses over time. On a relatively arid world like Krypton, fresh flowing water is a perfect, compact symbol for hope. The House of El having that symbol shows that they're going to be interested in the value of people shaping *and being shaped by* their world, that they believe in embodying hope and possibility, that they're exactly the kind of tradition and heritage that will produce a Jor-El who hopes for a better world, and a Kal-El who brings hope to a new world.
Bruce was always good, he was just broken and tormented because he had lost Jason Todd. He felt responsible for Jason's death and he turned the bitterness and hatred inward. Clark helped remind Bruce why he wore the costume and what he was fighting for... and that's what Superman is... the symbol of hope that everyone on Earth can reflect upon and believe in. Showing that no matter how bad things get there is always happiness and love and the need to protect it.
He can't, I believe early Kryptonian had parenting role concept similar to human : woman giving birth and nurture their young while man protecting and mentoring them. It would hard for Kal El to let go Krypton and fully embracing earth, if his biological mother involved. I like this movie portraying Kal El attachment to his human adopted mother (Martha Kent), this explained a lot why he chose humanity over Kryptonian in the end.
I don't know why this movie wasn't liked..I mean really good story.. superb background music.. very well directed.. superb movie.. I watch atleast once 6-8 months just for the background music...
I absolutely LOVE the first half of this film. Snyder nailed the charachter development perfectly and showed us all things the audience never saw before. The calamity on Krypton was so well worth the time spent and he truly chose a perfect cast in Henry and Russel. I'll always love this more than any other depiction.

It's my favourite line in this scene. It is the first explanation I've ever heard for why Jor and Lara couldn't go with their son.

I think Russel Crowe portrays such subtle humility in Jor-El, a man who understood the failings of his world and understood that that if Krypton was to live, then it would be within his son. I wish we had more of this charaterization of Jor-El, I'd love to see his adventures in a mini-series of some kind with Russell Crowe as Jor-El and how he came to the conclusion of having a natural-born child with his wife, Lara.

I just want to take a moment to praise how beautiful Henry Cavill was in this scene. The little smile Clark has when he learns his birth name is just so precious and heartwarming. I would love for him to be able to play Superman again; he really deserves to shine more.

I asked the same fucking question myself , WTF Warner did to ruined such a great story to tell into the shit we watched.
This exactly why I prefer DC. Because they actually make you think about how these heroes and villains have repercussions in the real world. The film was a complete package and an epic journey from start to finish. I love the graphic novels used, the properly executed punchlines, and the background of the characters introduced.
The visual storytelling here is unmatched.

That line is so important to me. For the longest time, I was confused about why, with all Jor-El's foresight, he and Lara never went with their son to Earth, teaching them about their home and why he has such power. Knowing that Jor-El wanted Kal, and by extension, Krypton, to have a fresh start, free from all possible positive or negative biases, makes perfect sense.

So even if he wanted to send a female Kryptonian, he couldn't.

Hands down! Zach Snyder's "Man of Steel" is the best Superman movie I have seen in my life thus far! This movie is absolutely phenomenal in my opinion! I find the story, scientific concepts, philosophical ideas, acting, directing, music, cinematography and visual effects to be just powerful! It is definitely one of my favorite movies. I would even say it is one of the top ten films so far from the 2010s decade, along with "Cloud Atlas", "Les Miserables", "Coriolanus", "The Great Gatsby", "Exodus: Gods and Kings" and "12 Years A Slave".
The story adapt to lots of modern's issues. Like illegal, devils and religions. You don't see it on old Superman movies where Superman got welcome right away.
People in doubt, that's why protest outside of DC with many carried slogan as "Superman is an ILLEGAL ALIEN" and religious commentary said Superman is an angel or devil.

To be honest though, that's why Appkolips and Darkseid are so interested on anything Kryptonian related. Because Krypton was once the cosmic hegemon for those 100,000 years until its downfall. Once the latter happened, Apokolips was free to usurp that position in the universe.

To become something meaningful so people on earth can join him in the sun. how brilliant jor El foresaw the calamity and understood that everyone must have their own choice!!! This is a beautiful scene. It conveys so much in such a short amount of time, without feeling contrived or rushed. Both players are superb. They fulfill elegantly all the facts of their characters.

@Drew Driano The Reeve image of Supes worked in its own era, but not so well in today's outlook. Nowadays it's just too cheesy when put next to every other superhero movie, DC or otherwise. I like how these movies' heroes are designed nowadays, relatively grounded in reality in how the rest of the world reacts to them. Let's not forget, MoS is an origin story. It accurately portrays how a boy with super powers struggled with his identity growing up and ultimately came to find peace with himself and his purpose when he became Superman as an adult. Cavill portrayed this very well.

The symbol of the House of El is perfect for everything Jor-El is talking about: it's a river. A river is shaped by its banks, but also shapes them into new courses over time. On a relatively arid world like Krypton, fresh flowing water is a perfect, compact symbol for hope. The House of El having that symbol shows that they're going to be interested in the value of people shaping *and being shaped by* their world, that they believe in embodying hope and possibility, that they're exactly the kind of tradition and heritage that will produce a Jor-El who hopes for a better world, and a Kal-El who brings hope to a new world.

Bruce was always good, he was just broken and tormented because he had lost Jason Todd. He felt responsible for Jason's death and he turned the bitterness and hatred inward. Clark helped remind Bruce why he wore the costume and what he was fighting for... and that's what Superman is... the symbol of hope that everyone on Earth can reflect upon and believe in. Showing that no matter how bad things get there is always happiness and love and the need to protect it.

He can't, I believe early Kryptonian had parenting role concept similar to human : woman giving birth and nurture their young while man protecting and mentoring them. It would hard for Kal El to let go Krypton and fully embracing earth, if his biological mother involved. I like this movie portraying Kal El attachment to his human adopted mother (Martha Kent), this explained a lot why he chose humanity over Kryptonian in the end.

I absolutely LOVE the first half of this film. Snyder nailed the charachter development perfectly and showed us all things the audience never saw before. The calamity on Krypton was so well worth the time spent and he truly chose a perfect cast in Henry and Russel. I'll always love this more than any other depiction.
