And in my opinion, is better over the last 15-20 years than a lot of F1 drivers were/are. I can think of at least 4 drivers in F1 today that would not be able to compete with Dixon if he was given time in the car.
Dixon has always been a class act. Had a OMG moment a few years ago when he landed upside down on the inside retaining wall of turn 2 at Indianapolis. Glad he survived that flight!
Very happy you guys are having IndyCar and F1 drivers on more. It's interesting to hear you comparing notes on each other's unique disciplines and then hearing what you have in common. The crossover fills you out more as people which makes it all more interesting. Rising tide, as they say. Great stuff!
Rubens Barrichello had something like this to get to F1. But in his case it was just one guy, owner of a big food company (Arisco). He just put the decal logo in Rubens' helmet and suit and then he collected 10% of every salary Rubens had in F1. The cool thing is these 10% was always donated to foundations that they choose together.
I think a key to growing all motorsports is this kind of combined effort. I have never heard of him but now I have. I'm curious to look into what he has done. Every category of motorsports has its legends and since we no longer have IROC, this is how we meet the non nascar drivers! Thanks guys!
I feel like Mike wasn’t really understanding the where Scott was when he made that deal. Like he seemed shocked that Scott Dixon would be giving up his future earnings, and maybe Scott new all along he would make it big, but as Dixon kept saying, without this deal, there is no money and no racing. So a little less money to be able to race is worth it.
I remember when he was racing in NZ as a chubby cheeked kid crying after he crashed his formula vee. He's done well, as fellow Kiwi I'm damn proud of him.
AWESOME! Good on JR for getting one of the best on the podcast. Can't wait to go listen to it. Thanks!! My favorite thing about JR and most of these conversations, is that he is a fan of motorsports, just like me. And the conversations go into so many of my curiosities about the entire lifestyle and business of it all.
Lack of real sponsorship without return has become a drain on the driving talent coming from places like New Zealand. To get to the big time requires big sponsors, especially for European racing, and we just lack the deep pockets here. Any body who has watched Scotts career knew he was pure talent and yet it was so hard for him to break into top tier motorsport. I've watched Scott pre-Indylights and he was always amazing on track and still is 25 years on.
This type of funding is more common in open wheel racing in Europe, usually by personal management companies, good to see Scott Dixon ,one of the greats of all motorsport .
I remember him before his formula ford days. He was breaking records just to get over to oz and continued breaking records over there before he went to the states and the rest is history. He's won a Indy, he's won a Le Man's, Monaco would be nice and he's still my favourite racecar driver...chur kiwi ⛳
You can tell just how much Scott Dixon Loves racing just listening to him talk about it. I think if Dale said I got a couple of Go Carts out back you wanna race? He would say fire em up let’s go.
I'd like to see more IndyCar guys or some short track guys dirt or pavement. Billy pauch would be a good. He holds the record for top speed in a winged sprint car
7:40 Dixon puts in the media and sponsor work. He understands the business. He always thanks PNC, Honda, and his crew/team. I cringe when I see a post race interview where the driver makes no mention of the crew, sponsors, and fans.
“You’re one of the greatest race drivers in the world”…”it’s not a running race…I’m one of the greatest race drivers in the world out of a select group of people that can get hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of motorsports funding.”
Kwite a few kiwis have had help with funding on getting overseas to race from nz businessman Giltrap group is a big one that has an still dose help kiwis in motorsport
Can't never did anything. There's always a way to figure something out. This is a great story.
Legendary comment from a legendary RUclipsr and Interviewer!! Great historical videos!
This is one of the best drivers ever in Indycar and such an amazing person! Love him!
YEs we are watching him make history it's great
He makes me proud to be a Kiwi...!

Love to see the other racing discipline drivers on the pod

One of the greatest drivers to strap into an Indy car.

you should watch srx its basically like what iroc was
Dixon is one of the greatest racers of all time. Put him right there with Schumacher, McNish, JJ or Hamilton if you watch more than F1 or NASCAR.
dude is a fucking studwatch Scott Dixon's poll run from last year's Indianapolis 500
He's won a Indy, a Le Mans and just a Monaco to go ⛳
I love it when you have open wheel drivers on. They’re a different breed; takes incredible guts to race those machines.

Now Scott is among the best Indycar drivers of all time. He might be able to match AJ Foyt with 7 championships.
Good stuff! Scott Dixon is definitely one of the greats. One of the greatest drivers to strap into an Indy car..
I remember when he was racing in NZ as a chubby cheeked kid crying after he crashed his formula vee. He's done well, as fellow Kiwi I'm damn proud of him.
Love Dixon! Met him @ first Sonoma (Sears Point) test and he is as cool of a guy to meet as anybody can get🏁

I've been a fan of Scott for years and I never knew he was a Kiwi...good show.
Outstanding Commentary!!! Thank You!!!!

Scott Dixon is the greatest!!! My number 1 Kiwi sports person of all time
Great stuff!
Dixon does the best interviews in motorsorts.
7:40 Dixon puts in the media and sponsor work. He understands the business. He always thanks PNC, Honda, and his crew/team. I cringe when I see a post race interview where the driver makes no mention of the crew, sponsors, and fans.
nyck de vries is going thru a lawsuit about this right now
6 time champion!
Funny how Scott is talking about being broke when he was young but now he has the value of a house sitting on his wrist.
Dino Beganovic is in this kind of program too.
“You’re one of the greatest race drivers in the world”…”it’s not a running race…I’m one of the greatest race drivers in the world out of a select group of people that can get hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of motorsports funding.”
Probably the second weirdest funded racing career, second only to Randy Lanier's pot barge.
Please get Philippe Lopez and Ronny Crooks on the show
Is this a whole podcast with Dixie? If so, when does it drop?
Dixie should have won the 500 last year, he dominated the race.
Then sped in the pit lane and threw it away
Yep, he threw it away. Kinda similar to what Montoya did in the 2009 Brickyard 400.
That's what nick de vris is dealing with right now actually
I don't know if you would address this question, but was wondering if you ever thought of reviving DEI?
The ice man is the best!
GOAT
I would love to see Scott run a fee NASCAR races
Sergio Perez in F1 has the exact same story, except it was one Mexican Billionaire who financed his career
Time to get grosjean on too!
Scotty D!!!
Golfers have done this for decades.
Yep other kiwi's Lyds to the Ko and Roto-vegas hardcore Danny Lee were backed in a very similar way to Dix ⛳
Kwite a few kiwis have had help with funding on getting overseas to race from nz businessman Giltrap group is a big one that has an still dose help kiwis in motorsport
I think Zane Smith has a similar deal wear he has to give half of is salary
Look at the other side of the coin they have lost a lot of money if he failed remember investment are meant for the long term and many don't make it
Feels like he gave up a lot but you need to get to the show to make $$
Is this guy in racing even?
Scott Dixon?
if you're serious then yeah Indy car..open wheel...the really fast gokarts
