"The center of the universe is filled with raspberry flavoured rum"... That's something I'd expect in the Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy, not in a Ralfy masterclass. Wonderful! :-)
What a wonderful presentation! Only i would point out that ethanol is used for desinfection and not for sterilisation. Difference is, by desinfection means killing off 1/10000 bacteria, sterilisation means killing of 1/1000000 bacteria. Ethanol doesnt have the properties to kill off that many bacteria, Sterilisation is done by steam, radiation, some gases like ethyleenoxide, H202 plasma-phase and offcourse the flame. I work in the bussines (hospital), now you know :) Again, very nice masterclass
I appreciate that as much as you demonstrate being a good whisky thinker, you demonstrate being a good all-around thinker and philosopher. Your content proves very satisfying for fellow thinkers.
This is really good stuff Ralfy! I enjoy the fact that you did a lot of research and have a lot of interesting information. Thanks for these three classes!
Ralfy, as as alcohol and aggression researcher I can say you are right on the mark when it comes to disposition. It is the strongest predictor of aggression when intoxicated. There is an entire field of research in psychology that addresses this. Good on ya malt mate!
I appreciate your off the cuff unedited presentation and using annotations later if necessary. Too many RUclipsrs have so many edits that it drives me crazy. Also, thanks for the pause button so I could reload and kick back for a great advanced master class. Sagittarius B2, enough alcohol to float Earth. Oh yeah!
Well pesky family members aside, I liked this video. AND I learned that flowering (fruiting) plants were available for the last of the dinosaurs. I wonder if our malty dino-mates ate the fermented ancestor of barley?! Oh the power that asking and answering questions has to enrich our lives, which is the subtext of your videos that most resonates with me. Thanks again, Ralfy!
Sooo, the universe is all about alcohol, huh? Hehe, this was a great vlog about alcohol. I think the state of mind is a huge issue regarding how you enjoy your single malt. You have often talked about rushed people at the airport just knock back a fine single malt. So avoid whisky when you are stressed out and save it for the late evening enjoyment after a long day of work. Relax and take your time with it. Buy quality and drink less is my motto.
Hello, Ralfy. I think it will be interesting to You. I matured NAS peated single malt whisky with the grape jam (whole berries+syrup) for at least the month and the whisky become much sweeter and softer, like after sherry maturation. The smell is wonderful! If You have an opened bottle of a NAS peated whisky, that's the best variant to make it drinkable)
Superb 3part clip.. ralfy can't wait till your next review. I've recently bought a bottle of jura superstition. Are u going to review this at any time. As its malty magic!!
A minor correction about alcohol itself, the production is indeed ancient but it didn't really originate as an anti bacterial. That was just a convenient side effect for the organisms that produced it (which can even kill themselves with the alcohol eventually). Alcohol production arose as a solution to an energy production problem on the cellular level. When yeast is deprived oxygen, it runs out of energy (ATP) and so another chemical feeds into the cycle to keep it alive, producing alcohol.
Hey Ralfy, hows about a whisky in mixed drinks video? Would be good for the summer months coming up. A review of popular scotch cocktails, which blends are good for scotch and soda, scotch and water, rob roys, etc?
Wow, wonderful video, you've studied chemistry, astronomy or something? if i can ask, what's your job ralfy. I ask because of your wisdom.... And what about a review of the liquors have most influenced or impressed you in your life, whiskies or whatever. Thanks again.
I am a new viewer, think your reviews are great and very educational. Trying to get beyond beginner level and just bought new Tobermory 10 and Clynelish 14. Have Strathisla 12yo and it's nice to me, but am curious to hear your thoughts on it
Ralfy, could you do a vlog, sort of Part 2, on Solera Bottles? I'd like to hear some of your ideas on themes, experiments and things to learn from them, and see updates from other commentors as well.
oh...shoot.. thanks Ralf...i would love to have a dram w/you but.gona have to watch this in a few hours...cant pour a whiskey at 8am!!!(although its been done before) be back momentarily
I know it might sound crazy, but for example different blends taste quite different in a scotch and soda. Most of the scotch consumed in the world is probably consumed mixed with something else (i.e., JW red). Might be an interesting review
Ralfy would make a great sidekick for Indiana Jones. Picture this...Indy needs help running down a stolen batch of priceless malt whisky from Biblical times. Who does Dr. Jones turn to but Prof. Ralfy...the university's professor emeritus of Distillation Anthropology. Jones carries his bullwhip...Ralfy carries a Glencairn glass. Brilliant!
Ralfy, I do have to ask you a question. Which one of your reviewed whiskies got the highest mark ever from you. Greetings from Bavaria. Suggestion for the malt mentioning: Hello, you malty multinational muttering masters.
The video turns into an add at about 6:00 and whether you skip the ad or let it play the video doesn't continue afterward. If you try to restart the video it makes it another 20 seconds and this repeats. Seems like RUclips has messed something up in the way they are integrating the ads.
Refreshing to hear alcohol being described as what it is..a Drug, and as we all know, the morality of drug taking is all down to geography, and history & politics; we are so hypnotized by convention that drinking is 'normal' and all that other stuff is the devil's own substance, we have got the wrong idea altogether! Freedom for all Adults!
According to studies, red wine reduces cholesterol and Whiskey low sugar levels, but you should always consult your doctor. The taste of drinking whiskey can give it who can, who does not want. Life is short and it is a wonderful idea, who wants to live inside a bottle of whiskey, forget and move away from the family, so live and let others live happily.
If you are of legal drinking age, I'd suggest using Google to locate your nearest liquor shop, hop in your car, and buy a good bottle that's been hopefully Ralfy reviewed. Otherwise, PANIC!!

not drunk, not sober ,,the middle ground..sounds great... thanks Ralfy!

This is an absolutely amazing episode! So awesome to see that even still you are so passionate about all this, Cheers Ralfy!

One of the better video's on youtube!!
Thanks for sharning your knowledge Ralfy. Bronze is an alloy, not metal though.
Lovely talk mate. Good job
Thank you, Adam btw, look forward to watching more

Wonderful. I was missing the HD video quality though.

i love and agree with that blessed middle ground analysis

'Dinosaurs probably got pissed' - ralfy's finest moment in all his vlogs right there...
Thank you for this perfect information !
Ralfy amazing to see not only do you love my hobby of whiskey, but also my other love, astronomy. Are you an amateur astronomer as well?
Did you do a review about that bottle and if so could you please give me the number of the review ? Thanks in advance.
Was that your solera bottle you poured from, Ralfy? I started my own...good stuff. Thanks for the videos!

Good review.
Building a rocket to get to the great alcohol in the sky!
You are right ralfy. All alloys are metal but not all metals are alloys. Similar to how all scotch is whisky but not all whiskys are scotch.
Ralfy would make a great sidekick for Indiana Jones.

Ralfy, I do have to ask you a question. Which one of your reviewed whiskies got the highest mark ever from you.
Greetings from Bavaria. Suggestion for the malt mentioning: Hello, you malty multinational muttering masters.
Have you ever tried Fireball whisky liqueur, Ralfy?
What do I do if I have no whisky? Aside from panic.

If I click further into the video I can play it from there. So it's viewable, just a little tricky
IndyCars run on ethanol

Water vs alcohol is clearer if you spell water as H-OH and Ethanol as C2H5-OH.
Maximise the middle malted moment malt mates!
Your glass is worringly near the edge of the barrel there mate!
Interesting 🤓

I've always suspected that the Universe was a bit rummy.
...comedically speaking that is..
new hat ralfy?
