Enjoyed this video. The time you took to dress the part and add the herbals and such in the background was verily appreciated! Your whisky reviews set the standard for how I compare other reviewers and bloggers. Keep it up Ralfy !!
I could say you didn't let us down, Ralfy, but that would be the understatement of the year. Classic. Thanks for the education in a spirit we Yanks weren't able to enjoy legally for many years.
Congratulations on 300 reviews! I love the combination of tasting notes, whisky recommendations and background information that you put into your videos, and your little forays into other spirits are much appreciated. Thank you!
You crack me up Ralfy,,almost spewed my dram of Glendronach on the key board when I saw your wizard wand, get-up and bothy makeover.Your one hell of a character and all around good natured fellow Ralf,,,congrats on your 300th vlog and all the best with your future spirit videos.I`ve looked at absinthe many times and with your discriptive, informative vlog I think I`ll buy a bottle and try it out.Cheers to the aqua vitea.
Outstanding informative video! You and Clive have a "Teaching gift". I am in debt to both of you as you have expanded my knowledge on spirits and electronics.
Well done, Ralfy. Splendid, information rich presentation. I thought I was hallucinating, and then I realized that there was a lava lamp one the shelf in the corner of the Manx Boffy. They produce Absinthe, here, in the S.F. Bay Area, and I'll have to give it a try. I appreciate the tips on drinking this odd beverage. Re: Cigars, although I prefer the short fat ones, usually, I'd like to mention Bolivar Palmita cigars as a change of pace for big flavor in a small package (5x38).
Yeehaa 300 !! Top quality independent vlogs. Nice historical story about it. And I always thought my wife was the green witch ; p Greetings from Holland
Another great video, my friend. Congratulations on hitting #300 and let me say, they just keep getting better and better. I've always been intrigued by Absinthe and I have definitely learned a lot today. One day I may give it a try.
just so you're aware, i've been drinking absinthe tonight and i stumbled across this in my search for something interesting about absinthe to watch. i am fascinated. thank you for presenting a genuinely interesting and informative video!
Congrats for a nice vlog worthy of the number 300 ! as usual info-taining ;-) and got me in the mood to get a bottle soon, I used to live in Belgium and enjoyed absinthe "the degenerate way" ;-) young and foolish, anyhow, a trip to japan would be nice as I love the country and their wiskhy industry has been decorated quite well in the past years, with reasons or not ... I am eagerly waiting for your review. cheers
Hello, Ralfy. I am both a single malt and absinthe drinker, and have been watching your whisky reviews for some time. I enjoyed your take on absinthe. Nice presentation. Thank you.
Started watching this years ago...really knew nothing about the stuff then. Got to say , now that I'm perhaps older and perhaps a bit wiser ,I really enjoyed it! Thanks Ralfy.
I was taking a sip of my beer when i started the video then i look over and i see what you are wearing and it came out my nose ! love your videos, you do great work
Thanks for that extended review, great to hear your analyses. But PLEASE, viewers, no-one light sugar cubes! You will alter (a good) absinthe's nuances & it is a unnecessary fire risk. Also, I believe that sugar masks the herbal characters the producers were carefully presenting, and it was probably only used 'back in the day' to mask cheap products. Sad that nowadays the 'good stuff' is so expensive, and the bad stuff is reallllly bad....Lastly, use a slow drip of water, 3-4 parts per ounce absinthe, and sip the good stuff slowly! ~Thank you for such a good presentation, so glad you displayed the 3 types and discussed the artistic flairs modern producers can have fun with. I will definitely check out your other videos!
@@eblackbrook Exactly. I might be wrong, but from what I read from material going deeper into absinthe history, the "scorched sugar cubes" thing isn't even a bohemian/czech/insert random eastern country (as stated above) tradition. Apparently it was just a (early) marketing gimmick to reinvigorate the Absinth market after a long period of ban in countries like France. Also to consider that it was banned as early as it was because of already pretty established market monopolies and lobbies, forging "scientifical" evidence as to why the drink was dangerous (considering we still had basically free roaming moonshiners in the country at the time that were legal, this is pretty funny).
Congrats on and THANKS for 300+ ultra-informative and entertaining vlogs. Well done! This absinthe vlog is a real topper. Maybe next you can review various opiums? :-)
Bravo! Great Vlog Ralfy, really interesting-I have tried a few Absinthes, and I always used to enjoy Pernod , so the Thujone is not really psychoactive at all eh?
What Ralfy said is that thujone is present in only small amounts in absinthe, and would not be toxic. Thujone in large amounts is toxic. It is present in a number of plants such as sage, arborvitae, juniper, mugwort and oregano.
I highly recommend Taboo Absinthe from Kelown, BC, Canada. They make it in the traditional way, from distilled wine, and it's extremely good (and extremely well reviewed).
Congrats on 300, Ralfy! This was a great review of a spirit I've always wanted to hear you speak about. Be proud of the knowledge and curiosity you help to spread, my friend.
When you mentioned Japan at the end I immediately though of Ichiro's malt. I had a bottle of "nine of spades," and two bottles "four of diamonds." Both outstanding.
Congrats on 300 malt mate! If u are stateside we'd love to have you for "Peat-fest" in October! Also, recently came into a special bottle of a single cask release from "Kilchoman", a very young whiskey (dist. '06), but, to my pallett, doesnt hinder flavor. Any thoughts yet or plannig to do a review soon?
My son (28yrs old) and I bought a bottle of Glen Moray 12yr with the intent of drinking it while we watched your review. I was surprised to find that you haven't reviewed it. Any chance of that soon? Please let me know asap. Thank you! Love your reviews.
Wow, great talk! Also, you are one of the few people I have ever heard pronounce Van Gogh name properly! One theory is that Van Goghs heavy use of Absinthe contributed to his lighting and vibrancy. heh! Congrats on 300, Ralfy!
Thank you for this one. A few days ago I was looking at a collection of interesting absinthe spoons and had no idea what they were used for. Now I know and I may get the one that had a skull cut into it.
I don't know if you've done another review like this since, as you've got so many to go through, but the suit needs to make a comeback! Maybe for the NAS review? Top class!
Fun review, i'll stick to the Whisky & Pastis for now. I always wondered why certain drinks turned cloudy with the addition of water. How about a Kahula / Tia Maria / Kamora review?! Great outfit.
Would absolutely love to see the cigar reviews ralfy! And maybe even with whiskey pairings. Also am looking forward to some brady/cognac reviews. Congrats on 300!
Apologies my friend, i just saw the review 295 of Kilchoman, however the bottle I bought (after a tasting) used a Bourbon cask, I am now very curious what I'm missing from the cherry.Very stout at 58.9% alc/vol, but quite good with a straw of chilled water. Great reviews Ralfy, keep us posted if you make any trips across the water! Salud!
pour the absinthe into the glass, put a cube of suger on an absinthe spoon over the glass and pour water over the cube until the sugar dissolves. right?
The way he's dressed, and those plants and flowers behind him; it reminds me of the Shivering Isles in Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
Riddler the villain in Batman.
+BloodySawBlade CHEESE FOR EVERYONE! Wait, scratch that. Cheese for no one.
wewd Aww, I like cheese! No fair! lol
Absinthe goes best with Cheese. So, if everyone has Cheese... then everyone can have Absinthe!!
Good ol uncle Sheo
I see you'd sampled the absinthe quite a few times before setting up for this video. It appears to have literally blown your hat off.
Masterpiece. This is an educator, an entertainer, a performer at his best. True art.
Ralfy is the best and most interesting Whisky Taster.

Absolutely the most fun and fabulous absinthe video ever. Love the little touches like the Oscar Wilde book and the green magic wand. Lol
Love the lava lamp. :-)
Your brother directed me here.
Enjoying your channel.
Enjoyed this video. The time you took to dress the part and add the herbals and such in the background was verily appreciated! Your whisky reviews set the standard for how I compare other reviewers and bloggers. Keep it up Ralfy !!
Very Happy 300th Episode, Ralfy! Absolutely love your shows and wish I lived close enough to buy you a dram for your efforts.
I could say you didn't let us down, Ralfy, but that would be the understatement of the year. Classic. Thanks for the education in a spirit we Yanks weren't able to enjoy legally for many years.
Funny, intriguing, changing but stable, delivering quality, our provider to another world!
Thanks, Ralfy!

I know he is just showing the "bohemian method" for kicks but man, seeing it done on a Jade 1901 makes me want to cry.
Yeehaa 300 !! Top quality
independent vlogs.
Nice historical story about it.
And I always thought my wife was the green witch ; p
Greetings from Holland

Excellent presentation with much needed history. My wife loved it. Thanks for getting us in front of the computer together, at last!
Beautiful and informative video.
Absolutely fantastic! Thanks.
Hello, Ralfy. I am both a single malt and absinthe drinker, and have been watching your whisky reviews for some time. I enjoyed your take on absinthe. Nice presentation. Thank you.
The clear absinthe with the water added looks so amazing. Such a light pearl hue, it looks like liquid smoke.
I have a Bohemian Absinthe bottled at 73%, with wormwood pieces still in the bottle. It's very potent. Good video, as always!
Started watching this years ago...really knew nothing about the stuff then. Got to say , now that I'm perhaps older and perhaps a bit wiser ,I really enjoyed it! Thanks Ralfy.
Priceless! Cheers Ralfy on #300! Manymore man Manymore!

The flaming nonsense is a recent invention also, not historical.
@@eblackbrook Its the Czech method of drinking absinthe. But you are correct that the traditional French use a fountain method. 😉
@@Xenofer1 From what I've read it was invented in the 1990's. But I suppose a relatively new tradition is still a tradition.

You're having far too much fun with all of this Ralfy........don't stop!
Love your lighting the sugar cubes, don't care what others think. You were creating theatre. Love the Oscar Wilde book on the shelf.
