  • Update (August 2021):
Of course, Franziska has finished her project and her training at PIXL VISN in the meantime. She is now working as a Junior Modelling Artist at the large VFX studio ‪@pixomondo‬. And she was selected by ‪@TheRookiesCo‬ as a finalist in the Visual Effects category of the "Rookie Awards 2021", the most important contest for young artists in the creative digital media industry worldwide. Here you can check out her blog post for "The Rookies" in which she explains her project "Holy Man":

Our Term 5 student Franziska is inviting us today to have a look over her shoulder at what a typical day looks like as a student at PIXL VISN sculpting in ZBrush.
When it comes to creating a realistic 3D model, it is amazing how much detail work goes into every project. Small things that we never think of as important, can easily add up and bit by bit in the end actually make a big difference. Computers do make our work easier but there is still a lot of manual labor that goes into every project.
In this Video, Franziska is focusing on sculpting in ZBrush the various pours and wrinkles that a human face can have. To most people, wrinkles are those unwanted lines on our skin. Probably not something that we like to think about regularly.
Well, that all changes once you are faced with the challenge to recreate your first human in 3D! :) Pores, wrinkles, scars, scratches, birthmarks.. who would have thought they can hold so many interesting details?
The same goes for all the other aspects of 3D. For example, if you work as an animator, you will be obsessed with how people and things move. As a lighting artist, you will fall in love with sunsets and the beautiful colors that are all around us. Working in 3D really does change the way you see the world.
We like to thank Franziska for showing us a bit around her project. She is an amazing artist who little by little, day by day, is turning more and more into a real professional.
We hope you enjoy our short sculpting details in ZBrush video.
Besides from our PIXL VISN instructors, Franziska learned a lot of the ZBrush skills she shows in this video - like creating her own pore brush - from Kris Costa. He is a VFX artist who teaches online courses in ZBrush and Maya.
