Oh? Did not know that was Bruce Hornsby, but thinking back, it does have his signature! Bonnie Raitt has been a long time fave of mine. This song hits me directly in the feels ~ so heartbreaking.
@@avanellehansen4525I've been divorced too for alot of years. We had 2 kids, my ex met someone else. I was introduced to a great guy by my best friend. We had 5 more kids. My ex passed a few years ago. No sadness here!
Blues just wasn't and still isn't played on main stream radio. She finally got more recognition with her album "nick of time" at the 1990 Grammys. Won 5 that night.➡➡ She definitely paid her dues way before then. So deserving.
Bonnie isn’t just a great singer. She is also a fantastic slide guitarist. B.B. King, the blues guitar legend, once said that Bonnie was the best slide guitarist working in the business at the time. She has many hits and won a Grammy in 2023 for Song of the Year with “Just Like That”.
She has 12 Grammys and is being honored at the Kennedy Center Honors this year. If anyone among us hasn’t been touched by unrequited love, they are certainly lucky.
@@itchyandred4131one of the most lauded, respected Broadway performers in HISTORY. If John Raitt headlined a show, it was a guaranteed huge hit. My mom saw him once. It made her cry how good it was…
@brendarunyons8559 It took a long while. You will become free of the pain. You won't forget it ; but, the pain fades. Please accept a hug from one to another. 🤗
Bonnie Raitt is a great singer, guitarist & songwriter who covers many genres such as blues, rock, folk & country. Her biggest hits are from the 70's-90's. "Something To Talk About", "Love Sneakin' Up On You", "Nick Of Time", “Have A Heart”, "I'm In The Mood" (duet with John Lee Hooker ), "Papa Come Quick" etc.
I'm partial to the even older stuff, Sweet Forgiveness from 1977, is so great! She's quite the guitarist as well! I was lucky enough to see her live 'back in the day. ' She one of my absolute favorites!
Oh this song...I can't. Right before I left my husband in 1993, this song was playing on the radio as we drove home from a friend's house. We both started crying. To this day, I can't listen to it 😢😢😢
I just watched your reaction to kd lang's Hallelujah - and now this. Wow. Two of my favorite ladies in two of my favorite performances in the same day. Wow. Hope you do more of both of them.
Bonnie was one of the backing singers for Roy Orbison for his show Roy Orbison & friends black & white nights along with Jennifer Warnes & k.d.lang also there was Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello you can find it on RUclips it’s about an hour long a great watch x
she's also one of the best slide guitar players out there. she spent many of her early years with old blues musicians like john lee hooker. check out their duet 'i'm in the mood'. a fun one is 'let's give 'em something to talk about'.
I love your reaction to this song. I have loved it since it came out. It is very powerful and she has a beautiful voice. Thank you for playing this song. I haven't heard it in a very long time.
Bonnie Raitt is definitely one of the greats!!!! And has been one of my very favorite female singer/musician/songwriters of all times💜 This song brings back some pretty heartbreaking times when I was younger, and would listen to these sad songs while going through the pain. Now I listen to BTS and get cheered up instead😊💜
YOU FELT THAT....right? ME too....me too. Incredible reaction. BTW that is the great Bruce Hornsby on the piano there. This is one of my favorite reactions of yours. Thanks to your member that suggested this fantastic piece from a fantastic and well-respected artist.
A great song to get introduced to Bonnie and her music. After watching your reaction to KD in Vancouver & Celine in Paris and how those performances brought you to tears, this song by Bonnie does it for me. Thanks for sharing your reactions & emotions with us.
Her longtime signature hit is ANGEL FROM MONTGOMERY off the Streetlights album (1974). Try NICK OF TIME , the title track from her 1989 album, also HAVE A HEART from that album. She has a fun cover of ME AND THE BOYS from her 1982 album Green Light.
I have always loved this song so much! I've seen so many singers/artists cover this song, and they do a great job, but Bonnie has this raw emotion that nobody else can replicate. She has such a beautiful, sensitive, and vulnerable voice in this song. My favorite cover of this is the one that Teddy Swims does. Check that one out! It's really great too.
Bonnie Rait is great, you will have a lot of enjoyment getting into her catalogue. The emotion she imparts to this song is perfection. On the flip side of this is the fun, new-love song of hers, Something To Talk About.
Watching you experience this song, I just want to give you a hug because of what you were feeling and or going thru…Bonnie is a one in a million artist.
The first time I heard it years ago, it blew me away. It is so real. Simple message. Hard to take, but I can't make you love me if you don't. No one's fault, no blaming, just the way it goes sometimes. Her voice is perfect for this.❤
I always loved this song ❤ Home Free just released a cover of Bonnie Raitt’s song Something To Talk About it’s the first video with their new high tenor Adam Bastien.
I LOVE Bonnie Raitt! This song is sung so beautifully by her! Another song by her that always guts me is "Love Has No Pride." Please listen to it if you haven't heard it before.
Funny rate is probably my favorite female singer. Really love the blues and she does those really well. You really need to listen to her song "just like that." She won the grammy for best song of the yearwith it in 2022 or 2023. This will definitely bring tears to your eyes,
I've loved Bonnie since we both were as young as she was on her first album cover. The blues & her slide took the blues back to women. "Kokomo Blues" a great example of her blue, as is her cover of Sippie Wallace's "Woman Be Wise" (Don't Advertise Your Man). Then there's her cover of Randy Newmwn's "Guilty", another "I take the blame" love song. She was a key member of the anti nukes musicians of the 70s into the 80s. And yes, her dad was John Raitt, a Broadway Star, not just a Broadway actor/singer. He played the original roll of Curly in "Oklahoma!" as well as a lead in Carousel & Showboat. No slouch. Bonnie dropped out of Vassar to play around Boston & NY. Oh, and a very srxy little redhead.
Another artist to try is Emmylou Harris ~ any song from her album Quarter Moon in a Ten Cent Town. She's from the same era as Bonnie, Joni Mitchell, etc. She's blues-y/country and ballads. Beautiful, clear voice! Add to that, Linda Rhonstadt ~ voice like a bell! Start out with her first hit when she was with the Stone Ponies, singing Different Drum. As a 70 yr old woman from the West Coast, I have a very eclectic taste in music ~ loved the late 60s and 70s music and pick and choose enjoying much new music I hear!
This is my #1 fav song. Lyrically this song is epic in its simplicity. She also does the best version, Prince and George Michael and Adele all did it but they don’t come close to her.
While this IS great Bonnie....this isn't typical of Bonnie's music. Bonnie is a blues artist 1st and foremost. Made her bones among ALL the Blues greats of her time.
This song comforted me when I thought I was the only one. Bruce Hornsby is the only pianist I can recognize in an instant. Two geniuses creating a very special moment. ❤
You're better than I am. I've loved Bonnie's song (which was particularly personal for me) and Bruce's "The Way it Is" since they were originally released. Although I've adored the piano in "I Can't Make You Love Me," I didn't connect it to Bruce until only a couple of years ago.
The story of the writer of this song is kinda crazy too. Mike Reid was a legitimate football star. He was an All-American at Penn State, won national honors, was a top ten, first round draft pick in the NFL (where they had a grand piano at his introductory press conference), was an All-Pro player, but left the game after 5 seasons because he wanted to be in music and injuries were piling up. He would later say he read the story of an ex-husband saying "you can't make someone love you if they don't" in divorce proceedings and jokingly wrote it as an uptempo bluegrass song before slowing it down for what Bonnie would later record.
She really has blues at her heart and soul when it comes down to it. Check out her old live version of Love Me Like a Man. Her singing, and guitar work are too good.
Bruce Hornsby on the piano makes it even more haunting. She's being honored this December as one of the Kennedy Center honorees.

the story line, the depth of emotion is just classic heartache. Such an authentic song.
She's a FABULOUS blues singer. Not to mention a slide guitarist EXTRAORDINAIRE!!!!!

Fender made a Bonnie Raitt Strat model between 1995 and 2001. She is the only female artist to have a signature Fender Stratocaster.

No one can match Bonnie for blues and when she got wailing on that guitar, it sang too!

Bonnie's dad was John Raitt, a famous singer from the 1950's who sang show tunes and ballads. She sings a lot of semi-country music.
This song has such nuance and multilayers, a truly adult song about real emotions and relationships. As ever well done Bonnie.
