It's, surely, the most tasteless poutine on earth. You will get "Reel poutine" from independent Snack Bar or small restaurant simply because the cheese is expected to be better then cheese for fast food chain. Well everything in a poutine is better then what you'll get from any big fast food chain.
@@OurFulltimeAdventure Well... The better spot is about 5200 KM (3200 miles) east of Vancouver 😊 (Quebec province). Whenever you have time to come by our side!
@@OurFulltimeAdventure You told them you had $500 for five weeks of travel, so of course they wanted to see your banking information. You should experience the body-cavity search we get while trying to drive into the U.S.!
@@rgc1961 he asked specifically about how much cash we had. we use our travel credit cards for most purchases in order to miss the transaction fee and not carry too much cash
Looks to me like these two haven't travelled very much or crossed many borders. It's normal to be asked questions at a land crossing, especially when you are in an RV. A LOT of Americans transit the border on their way to Alaska. These two replied to the question about how much money they had by saying they had $500 Cdn, and then said they intended to travel in Canada for (I think) 3 weeks on their way to Alaska. There's a great big red flag right there. $500 Cdn wouldn't even buy enough gas to get that rig to Northern BC by the most direct route, let alone an added side trip to Vancouver Island. No surprise the border guards asked about their bank accounts. The search was also no surprise, if the border personel had even a slight suspicion that this couple might be planning to work illegally in Canada.
I think that when they see one, two or more young people with a lot of stuff with them, crossing by car (so no return ticket like when flying) with the intention of hanging around the country, they wanna make sure your really just can hang around without trying to make some $ in any undisclosed way 😅
We had our vaccine records and that’s about it. They didn’t even ask for them but I’d definitely have it all lined up. When do you plan to cross the border?
That's what were thinking too. We did enjoy the A&W version so that probably means we will love the good stuff once we get there. Where is your favorite spot?
@@OurFulltimeAdventure If you come to Québec you can try the one at the Fromagerie Victoria, these are in many cities accross Québec. I also love to try the Poutine in cantines in small towns
I actually think the poutine from A&W is very good and I'm Canadian. There's definitely some better places, but out the fast food places I think there is pretty good. Some of the best poutine IMO comes from food trucks.
@@OurFulltimeAdventure Unfortunately I don't because I live in Toronto which is obviously quite far from the west coast. Most of my favorite poutine comes from Ma and Pa type restaurants. Also, I just wanted to mention, you two people seem like the nicest people on the planet...lol No wonder you make such a good couple...lol. I was going back through some of your old clips and saw that you (I have a feeling I'm talking to Ashley) were involved in an explosion. I can't believe how tough your are. Not going to lie, a few of your clips regarding that brought me to tears. I'm so happy you seemed to have come out of it okay. I get super sad when bad things happen to good people. Anyway, I've rambled on long enough. Enjoy your trip to Alaska!
That totally makes sense!! And thank you so much we appreciate the kind words! It was definitely a lot to go through but it only made me stronger and our relationship stronger. It will have been two years since the explosion this coming October and I’m still healing physically and mentally but I am super thankful to still be here❤️
Yes being searched at the border can be an intimidating experience. However, it's just as intense for Canadians going south. American border officials can be every bit as intimidating for Canadians as you experienced as Americans on the Canadian side. From what I can tell in your video, I would suggest you were searched because of the slight hesitation when asked what weapons you had in the vehicle. That's enough to arouse an officer's suspicions and send you to secondary. You didn't have any contraband and your documents were all in order, but even the slightest thing that piques a guard's attention during the initial interview can result in a search.
With the b"Bank accounts" bit... it is less common for them to go into that detail, but arriving with "an home" and a lot of belongings, they want to ensure you can support yourself without working for the "extended" period of your visit. If you said you were coming for a week to drive to Alaska they probably wouldn't have asked. The "maybe a month, month and a half" line would be a bit of a red flag both because of the duration and because you aren't on an exact schedule... you have the time and flexibility to "work" illegally... in their eyes. I don't think they were trying to intimidate you but they wanted to clarify and crossing a border is often a bit of nervous time anyway.
Yeah we had a plan but they didn’t like the answer we gave them I guess so the situation was escalated to what it was. Now that we are past it I can definitely see why they did what they did.
Vague timelines, lack of reservations, no finite US address, living in an RV, looking sketchy, type of vehicle, etc. are all triggers that indicate possible prolong stays, work, or a certain type of homelessness in Canada.
there is a ton of reasons they make sure you have enough money. One of the main reasons is there is disasters and road issues here all the time especially up north. They need to make sure that if your stuck somewhere you have enough for a few days lodging and food so it doesn't create a problem for the country. The other reason is people trying to hide in Canada to live off grid in places they are not supposed to. They just setup on someones land and it can take a long time to find them and get rid of them.
That makes total sense of course! We have heard of you say you’re only there a week they don’t bother you but since that wasn’t the case we figured honesty is the best policy. Can’t believe people find it okay to come into another country without being able to financially support themselves incase an emergency happens
Currently Canadian immigration is watching RUclipsrs who are monitized. It is being viewed as making money/working in Canada without a work visa. It's a tax thing. Good thing you had decent sized bank accounts or theymight have denied entry
There are two reasons why you were asked to go in secondayr insepction: 1) you are travelling with animals. All dogs must be vaccinated against rabies. A specially trained officer must examine the dogs to ensure they match the dogs described in the vaccination certificates. The officer must also ensure that the dogs are transported in a humane way and that they present no visible signs of disease. 2) you have never been to Canada before. The officer's first duty is to ensure that you have sufficient resources to support yourself while in Canada and that you intend to leave at the end of your trip. That is why they asked you to show your bank records.
That’s good to know! They actually didn’t check any of our dogs paper work or even look at them really. Which we were sort of surprised about but the rest definitely makes sense!
Why did you not expect to answer questions or have your vehicle searched when you entered Canada, the same thing happens on a regular basis when going into the US. They were simply. I hope you enjoyed just ensuring you were planning on doing what you declared you were and making sure that you didn’t forget to leave your gun at home. You were entering another country, not just crossing into a other state. As you said, 45 minutes and you were on your way. I hope you enjoyed your Canadian experience.
@@OurFulltimeAdventureI apologize for my fellow countrymen addressing you like this. I can say from past experience the most problems I have had at the border is getting back into Canada. My car has been searched more by Canadian guards looking for illegal contraband or not paying enough duty. Enjoy your stay!🇨🇦
The American border can be particularly challenging for Canadians seeking to visit the USA. On certain occasions, individuals may experience up to eight hours of unwarranted harassment, as border officers have been known to fabricate reasons for scrutiny. If an officer is having a difficult day, the situation can become even more problematic, with some cases resulting in denied entry. It is regrettable to note that the treatment at the American border is often worse than that experienced at the Canadian border, especially for individuals of multicultural backgrounds, non-white individuals, and those born into Muslim families. They frequently encounter excessive scrutiny that can make them feel as if they are being treated as potential terrorists simply for attempting to enter the USA. These instances shed light on the severity of the challenges faced by some individuals at American borders. My personal experience as Canadian citizen with Canadian passport .
@OurFulltimeAdventure "La Banquise" is usually the most recommended spot but others like "Chez Claudette" and "Ma Poule Mouillée" are amazing as well and really there are so many smaller spots that does it justice as well. We heard many stories of little to no questioning so we just were not expecting to go to secondary and get all the extra questioning inside but it's not a big deal. We love Canada!
We may not have been interrogated on anything recorded but once we arrived inside the building of secondary there was a slough of questions and requests we weren't sure as to why they were asked but it's all good.
Boy; you have no idea what going the other way has been like for so many Canadians over the years. It's been much worse since 9/11 and most of us understand the reasons for that. Just do what most of us do; - grin and bear it while remaining polite and circumspect with your answers. When we retired we ordered a custom built fifth wheel and International toter with a bike barn for our Harley and the question that flummoxed us was being asked "how can you afford this rig?" I kid you not and when I gave my answer as "we are retired after forty years of both working high paying jobs he repeated the same question and that's when I told him I did not understand what answer would satisfy him. Did he want us to admit to drug dealing, bank robbery, paid assassins or what the heck? We were 57 years old "dinks" who had decided to take a hiatus from overseas travels to snowbird the American southwest fer crying out loud! We went through a full secondary inspection that time and they questioned why we had separated our cash into two separate bundles whereupon my wife explained one was American currency and the other was Canadian - I mean - good grief! You got off easy. LOL
We totally understand why it's done and it makes sense. Thank you for the advice! We will keep that in mind! We are loving Canada, have you been?
Poutine originated in Québec, so if you want the real you now where to go! 😊
We are so excited to try it there one day. Is that where you're from?
As a Canadian crossing into your country, we go through the same bullshit I remember back in the 70s in the 80s you didn’t even have to show ID just crossed they asked you if you’re Canadian citizen you said yes OK. Have a nice day.
Oh yeah, the good ole days. Regardless, we love Canada and the Canadians!
It's, surely, the most tasteless poutine on earth. You will get "Reel poutine" from independent Snack Bar or small restaurant simply because the cheese is expected to be better then cheese for fast food chain. Well everything in a poutine is better then what you'll get from any big fast food chain.
Hahaha totally!! We figured it wouldn’t be the best but better than nothing! Can’t wait to try a better spot while in Canada!
@@OurFulltimeAdventure Well... The better spot is about 5200 KM (3200 miles) east of Vancouver 😊 (Quebec province). Whenever you have time to come by our side!
We definitely plan to at some point! :)
The boarder services TV is a good show to watch. I've seen CDN, US, and Australia' s. Best not to have a conviction!!! 🤔🇨🇦
We will have to look into it! Never heard of it before.
Find a mom and pop chip truck. The poutine would be better there. Just make sure they use curds not mozzarella cheese.
Yes we definitely plan on it while we are in Canada! :)
Bank accounts? Thats crazy, I wouldn’t think they could do that.
Yes it definitely felt violating! Crazy that they can ask all of that.
Then you haven't been paying attention. The amount of prying and info gleaning those in power can do should be very concerning.
We go through the same scrutiny when entering the US
@@OurFulltimeAdventure You told them you had $500 for five weeks of travel, so of course they wanted to see your banking information.
Poutine comes from Quebec. If you can't get to Quebec then go to a French restaurant.
Do you have any recommendations?!
I think that when they see one, two or more young people with a lot of stuff with them, crossing by car (so no return ticket like when flying) with the intention of hanging around the country, they wanna make sure your really just can hang around without trying to make some $ in any undisclosed way 😅
That makes total sense. We can see that they’re just doing their job of course.
You want to hear about Canadians crossing the American border! Boy, we had stories!
We’ve heard. It makes sense but you never expect it to happen to you.
What kind of paper work do they need for the dogs?
We had our vaccine records and that’s about it. They didn’t even ask for them but I’d definitely have it all lined up. When do you plan to cross the border?
Real good Poutine is in Québec where it was invented. There might be good Poutine in the rest of Canada but not from a fast food chain.
That’s good advice ! Do you have any favorites we should visit?
You have two puppies!
Yes!! They’re to best! Do you have dogs?
@@warrenSPQRXxl Exactly, and a Canadian entering the US with that approach would most certainly not be allowed entry.
there is a ton of reasons they make sure you have enough money.
Poutine more of a Quebec dish then a western Canadian Dish
We've heard! We're excited to try it in Quebec one day!
Did you really think you could record border officers at an international border crossing?
There are two reasons why you were asked to go in secondayr insepction:
1) you are travelling with animals.
We had no issues. We’ve traveled to other countries and didn’t get search or questioned to this extent. We’re glad to be here though!
That is so crazy. I guess crossing either way could be a hassle but we absolutely love Canada so it's worth it
Don't blame poutine on Canada, thats a Quebec thing. Many people are not fans, myself included
when you said you had $500 cash. thats not enough to sustain your trip. so ya they wanted to know if your not going to be a burden on canada.
As a Quebecer i gotta say this is a really sad Poutine. You gotta come here in Quebec city or Montreal and get a real Poutine.
That’s great advice! Do you have a recommendation for a good spot we can try when we come there?
@OurFulltimeAdventure "La Banquise" is usually the most recommended spot but others like "Chez Claudette" and "Ma Poule Mouillée" are amazing as well and really there are so many smaller spots that does it justice as well. Definitely if you want to experience Canada you just cannot miss the east coast! You can order one that is classic and another one that could be with any topping like smoke meat for example, you can do some research before and choose according to your likings.
Oh yum!! That sounds AMAZING! We definitely plan on traveling to the eastern part of Canada at some point! We will save these spots, thank you :)
@@OurFulltimeAdventure You will love the coastal beauty of our east coat and we are very friendly here! A slower pace than the west coast as we don't get as many tourists, although that is changing.
A&W for poutine - Noooooooooo!
Where do you recommend in BC?
@@OurFulltimeAdventure Not sure. I used to eat poutine when I lived in Ottawa. Never had it in BC that I remember. There seems to be a few poutine places when I google poutine in BC.
It's the same for Canadians and Mexicans to enter the US
We’ve heard both horror stories and others that have had it super easy.
No one is searching my property with me not watching guess I won't be crossing that border and that's ok with me.
Were I border guard in any country I would have done the same to you. You raised a lot of red flags. I'm 70, have lived near the US-Canada border most of my life and crossed back and forth literally thousands of times and have never, ever had any trouble even in my long haired hippie days. People who post these "trouble crossing" videos are typically clueless and deserve what they get.
It happens going both ways for both Americans and Canadians even The Americans getting a next hard time by their own American guards , I f you have any thing suspicious that’s it , if you say any to be perceived as a smart ass then that’s it
We heard many stories of little to no questioning so we just were not expecting to go to secondary and get all the extra questioning inside but it's not a big deal. We love Canada!
Stop with the drama. You were not interrogated, he was doing his job by making sure you had everything in order.
We were just a bit shocked at the time since our intentions are pure and we've had many friends cross and only need to answer the normal couple of questions. We weren't expecting secondary and all of that but it is what it is and we still love Canada!
you Americans think its a cake walk coming into Canada
We honestly weren’t sure what to expect since we are bordering countries. Glad to be here though!
You didn't have to hide your phone you could have recoded ...under the Canadian charter of rights gives you the right to record
We had the gopro down low because a lot of the time people record and cause issues so we decided to just be lowkey about it so we could just provide a little insight as to what it's like pulling up to the border
He wasn't scary, welcome to Canada, why was it terrifying? A little dramatic
The many questions inside that were not shown was what threw us off but we totally understand now that we have read up and listening to more stories.
@@OurFulltimeAdventure were not the USA! We are a Commonwealth country and we don't equate freedom with being armed to the teeth. Have had exactly the same crossing into the USA, they have the same tactics to see if you're telling the truth. Had our car torn apart because my wife had her guitar with us and we were going to Nashville, they were very concerned if she was going to work in the States.
Despite the differences, we still love Canada! ❤️
Hey, it happens to Canadians alot too...Seems if you're like four young males with long hair, they automatically assume your doing drugs so here comes the drug sniffing dogs! Canadian Customs always say go on through the Americans Customs always check. Seems like alot of Stereotypes going on. Anyways what can do.🤟🍺🍺🍺🍺
Haha yes what can you do! We have loved visited Canada!
lol, you literally picked the worst example of a "poutine" lmao
That's what we were told by many. Do you have a recommendation we can't miss - preferably in BC or Alberta.
We have a big problem with Americans smuggling firearms and drugs. Don't sweat it.
Wow who knew that was a problem…. That’s so sad.. Is this a common occurrence for Canada?
Why would they need to know bank account stuff. How invasive!
I know! I think they just want to make sure you aren’t lying about anything. Pretty crazy!
You need to be able to prove you're able to support yourself ....same questions entering the U.S
That isn't invasive. That is standard. Especially if you look like you are coming in and staying for awhile.
@@OurFulltimeAdventure The main reason is there are thousands of people of your age that go to work at the ski hills in whistler, banff, jasper and various other resorts all through alberta and bc. The CBSA know this so they want to make sure you weren't moving here. If you had $200 in your bank account it would be assumed you might have a job at whistler or something. At which point they would have started looking through your emails.
Boohoo
We love Canada!
