Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the #travel bug! We started “travel hacking” & finally decided we wanted to go travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this #travelvlog to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling, and we didn’t want to stop after just one year! After achieving our new goal of 100 countries and then all 7 continents (check out our documentary here: • 100th COUNTRY DOCUMENTARY , we had no plans to slow down, until 2020 decided to force us to ;) which is when we bought a converted Sprinter van to start exploring our own country for the first time. #Vanlife was a major adjustment and so different than flying every week like we were used to, but we are incredibly thankful to be able to continue doing something we love every day. 😊🎥🌎

You need to tell Kara and Nate the Falls are better on the Canadian side. That is how I saw them on my very first trip to Canada back in 1992.

As an immigration lawyer in Canada, you went through the border perfectly. You were clear and fully disclosed. Good job! Also, nice to see the CBSA Officers doing their job. They gave you clear instructions and asked all the right questions.
As a Canadian who frequently crosses to the US at Windsor/Detroit I was proud the way the CBSA crew did their job - not an easy one at any time. I dearly wish their US counterparts were nearly as professional.
@@coldlakealta4043 I've had both sorts of experiences at the US border but will always remember one particular officer. He asked about any food in the car, my mom said "just a peanut butter sandwich for my son's lunch." His response? "That's what I'm having for lunch too!" Haha

@@coldlakealta4043 On our trip into the States we also had grapes in our cooler. The funny thing is they were California grapes. When I asked if they were now illegal immigrants, he didn't even crack a smile. Instead he sent us inside for a further inspection. No sense of humour from these guys.
But these travellers could have established beforehand that pepper spray is illegal in Canada.
A few years back I was crossing into Vermont on my motorcycle. I pulled up to the stop sign and waited until the two officers appeared. One motioned me forward. There was a camera and mic overhead. I played it straight, answered all questions politely, cracked no jokes. He completed the routine and I saw him visibly relax. He then asked about the modulated headlight which flashes high-low. Nice conversation. Just remember that they have a job to do and the easier you make it for them the more pleasant they are.
The editing and storytelling in this video is actually next level, it shows the kinda stuff that made me fall in love with this channel in the first place. Just two people living their lives and laughing at difficult situations. Glad Nate is on the mend ❤️🩹

First want to say, we are SO happy to see Nate doing better and that his surgery was a great success. Second, Kara isn't it awesome when you're stuck in traffic and have to pee REALLY bad that living in a van or RV at that point makes all the rough patches of van life go away...well at least until you finish peeing. Well done on the 16 hour drive. We're warming up for a LONG drive as we'll be picking up our brand new RV in a few weeks. YAY! Kara was a little red after reading about having pepper spray in the van. At least you remembered that.Let the cabin adventures BEGIN!!! ❤️👏

guys you did the smartest thing in being honest and open with the border guards - and it doesn't matter how many countries you've travelled to- you should always, always do your research first, each country has its own standards and they can change at any time

Something has really changed in the way y’all are filming these-I can’t put my finger on it, but the small things you’re focusing on on, the way you transition-I’m really enjoying how cinematic it makes the videos. I’ve always loved your videos but something is definitely been improved. Wish I could figure it out! Lol

Having an editor must help, but I really feel like Nate was putting a lot of thought into the cinematography especially in the opening scenes here!
I don't like it. we're not watching a movie in a theater, we are watching a batsht crazy couple travel across the USA and the world and we don't want to get rid of the boring parts, we don't need explosions like JJAbrams, and we don't need it to be super fast and deliver emotional highs and lows. Theres going to be boring parts of the video, which are relatable because there are boring parts of life.

Hey! From someone who's been to Niagara Falls a ton, I totally recommend Journey Behind the Falls! It's only a little bit more expensive for an adult ticket, but you get to see a lot. You're able to explore tunnels behind the Horseshoe Falls, and a few lead to where you're standing a few feet away from the moving water! There's also a deck (half open, half sheltered) at the very bottom of the falls afterwards too! It's definitely worth the price in my opinion. Much love from Toronto, ON!

I live about 2 hours west of Toronto and have been to Niagara falls a million times. I've never seen a video I enjoyed so much because it was so close to home. Been watching you guys for over a year now. You are so sweet and happy all the time. Thanks for breathing life into me!!

Hearing all the sounds from the Sprinter van is giving me some heavy flashbacks. I drove one of these every day for 3 years and all those sounds are very distinctive. The sound of the driver-side door is one of a kind.

My mom used to travel from Quebec to Texas and she always stopped at Nashville cause it's one of her favorite state, mostly for the people and obviously for the musical lore. Have a great van trip.

My Pop did the same thing. Asked the same question & couldn't remember where he lived, looked over to my Mom, got the answer & told the Border Control Officer.
Well, of course we got pulled over & they spent about 30 minutes checking out the van & all documents. I was about 8 & I still remember the day clearly...just craziness. My Mom was so upset with him that day....

Security: "Where are you from?"
Me: "The US..." :smirk:
One time they asked me where I lived and I COULD NOT FOR THE LIFE OF ME REMEMBER and instead went with "Just outside Toronto" and he was like, "WHERE just outside Toronto?" and *finally* I remembered. Scared me to death.
The guy technically asked “where do you live?” And I was ready for Nate to say either “in this van” or “we travel full-time, we don’t really have a home” and for shenanigans to ensue.

What a nice, mid week surprise this morning, thank you. As a Detroit native who has crossed the border into Windsor, Canada about a million times...I still get nervous. We used to camp there every summer and had to be really careful what we had packed/might have had leftover in our gear from other camping trips.
OMG! Kara I get that nervous at border crossings too, especially these days with all the extra restrictions. We just drove over the border in Croatia to Bosnia and I was a wreck. Also the passport scene is very relatable too, earlier this week I had a call from airport security to say they had my passport as I left it at the airport in Croatia, so thankful they found it and gave it to me, I hadn't even noticed it had gone! 😅

DH&I went to Niagara Falls for our honeymoon in 1977. Back then, we just needed our driver’s licenses. A lot has changed since then.
We currently live 1.5 hours drive time north of you. OldestDaughter, 2 friends, and I went to the TPAC to see “Hamilton”. Fabulous, just fab-u-lous!

I grew up in Western NY and went to Canada a gagillion times. I remember one time going up and the Canadian boarder patrol officer asked "How long do you plan on staying in the US?" I said, "Umm forever?" He said, "I mean Canada...it's been a long day." He let us through without any other questions :)

I'm from Ottawa Canada and I chuckled when you found it strange that they took the pepper spray cause we in Canada look at the US and say to each other "Wouldn't it be so weird to see Canadians walking around with side arms?" Weapons are just so foreign to us lol
I'm also a Canadian and it boggles my mind they are allowed to carry weapons but we can't take Kinder Surprise Eggs across the border because Americans are worried about the warning label that says not to give the toy part to babies under 3.

@@irwfcm i 'm from Canada, i don't know if there a difference of a Pepper spray (label for self defence) or pepper spray (label for Bear or Dog), because i order one Dog/Bear spray on Amazon for my forest hiking and was no problem to ship to my house
@@irwfcm We do have bear spray, but to carry you need "reasonable belief" that it is for protection against bears - not people. So if you're caught carrying it in a metropolitan city, you could be charged.

I've lived in Buffalo my whole life & taking a day trip to Niagara Falls is something we do a lot! I believe one of our school trips was to go on the Maid of the Mist. SO cool to see you guys do something I've done quite a lot, and drive around the same roads I drive almost everyday!
Great to see people doing what you do but in their unique way. I'm too a substantial fan of this channel and I additionally create videos concerning life in Russia. Sadly the youtube algorithm has not been as nice to me yet. Virtually all those that enjoys my vlogs claims that it is brilliant, but not many get to watch it. Can you be brutally sincere and say exactly how I can improve? I value your honest point of view.
Buffalo New York gets lake effect snow like no other place on the planet. When I was in trucking,...I knew,...throw out the dam logs and whatever you do, get thru Buffalo before it hits. If you get stuck in Buffalo during a lake effect blizzard in your truck.....you're an idiot. i remember it being a very clean blue collar city.Once spring clean up was done.
I also had a elementary field trip to the Maid of the Mist! Must be a buffalo thing!

Interestingly enough, as much as you were surprised you could not bring pepper spray from the USA into Canada....it is equally prohibited to bring a Kinder Egg into the USA. Kinder is a chocholate egg with a small toy inside. Just as with the pepper spray, you can be charged, prosecuted and possibly incarcerated. I really enjoy your videos, fun and uplifting. Keep up the good work.
I have never actually been to the american side of the niagra falls, but i can say it is the most spectaular view i have ever seen from the canadain side..

And it pretty great…. Fall right now is absolutely incredible, bright colours and early mornings are the best
One thing though, if your planning on going up North near Timmins or moose factory, prepare for 2 feet height snow and roads that aren’t plowed.
Also you have to get a strawberry cream chill at Tim Hortins. Have a great time here. Best wishes for all

As someone who lives 10min from the peace bridge and crosses the border regularly, you guys had a pretty easy crossing its typical for them to do what they did and you guys handled it perfectly and more than anything just he happy they didnt destroy your van ive seen them tear vehicles down to the frame before lol 😂.

Greetings from Toronto, Canada! I really love your travel videos! Reminds me when me and my dad went on a "domestic" (yes, domestic in quotation marks) road trip to Ottawa (Canada's Capital) and Montreal this past summer (2021).
Although we didn't travel in an RV (we stayed at an actual hotel - in the city), I just really wanted to say that you have a lot of fans from Canada who love your travel videos!
