There's still subsistence agriculture there though I think which can cause starvation due to crop failures etc and their land is famously not arable (all the arable land is in the south) but that isn't helped by all the sanctions limiting their economic growth.

It’s true that he has a strong relationship with his sister and she is the de facto second in command, but with such an intense patriarchal system such as that of North Korea’s, if she were to become supreme leader, she would most likely be more of a figurehead. Kim Jong Un has formally executed, killed, or surpassed for leadership all of the men around him. He was chosen over his own full brother by his father to become the leader and has executed and killed two of his half brothers. She is, essentially, the last one standing and could be chosen, if he dies, to be the leader because bloodline may be stronger than the patriarchy. But she would also not be as trusted by everyone else as she is by Kim Jong Un.

I don't speak Korean, so correct me if I'm wrong, but Korean has 8 simple vowels (monophthongs). Latin only had 5, so when transcribing in that writing system, some vowel letters are combined to represent simple vowels even though they are not diphthongs. For Ju-ae, it is a sound closer to Spanish /a/ nad Spanish /e/, and it appears in the English word "hair". It is not an /ai/ diphthong. I understand the sound must have come from English speaker pronunciation of Taekwondo, however that word's pronunciation by English speakers is nowhere close to how it's pronounced in Korean
