Sad to see so many issues with the steel on the basques. The crap handles I could deal with, but that really sucks. I feel for you man. Hopefully things get better, as they really do have great geometry.
@dakillah6018 80% of the handles I’ve purchased from their company have been warped. Needed to steambend to fix them. They are mass producing handle stock with low quality european beech. Turning it while it’s still green I imagine, which is a lot easier on the machines. They take a good set once dried since they never saw a kiln beforehand.
Greetings from Spain folks. Only Tell you the basque axe is so sticky because you chose the straight bit versión, which is more fragil than the curve bit. I have the second one ant It never failed like that
Might want to look into that F114 these basque axes use, maybe it's the type of tool steel that becomes brittle after much use. I personally don't know smack about F114. But I do know that some tool steels can get brittle even when it's tempered steel.
There were several glancing blows before this happened, not that these guarantee a broken head but they don't help with such a thin edge. I'm no expert but it seems to me that the geometry of these axes make a very clean strike mandatory.
Ben didn’t even hesitate. Exactly what I’d have done, too. He’s a good lad. I could see it before you circled around the back, but I can’t tell when it happened. You? Gotta be facecut though, eh?
i broke my 1.5 head so i was about to order one more but as i saw here mine wasnt the only problem so i ll not buy another one so light . I got the 2 and the 2.5 aswel but the 1.5 chipped off like DAMN
So that brings the basque tally to all of us having a dud now. Fantastic
Looks like you guys had fun. Bummer about the Basque. Nice tandem chopping sequence!
6:41 is that’s a Oberharzer Bison axe ?

Looks like a piece of polished Chinese steel on a fancy handle. Sorry for the basque mishap. I'll stick to Council Tools, am in Canada.
THATS EXACTLY WHY I SEARCHED FOR , MY BASQUE BROKE LIKE 1/5 OF THE BLADE LIKE DOUBLE THE SIZE OF YOUR CHIP . I ll go for a Muller thats for sure

Any standouts?
I used to have friends like that until I killed them all off. Good vid. Looks like fun
How did you kill them?
@@MrDesmostylus chips often flew off his Basque sharp as shrapnel. And - The rest is history. 😆

Just watching again. Sorry to see yours shit the bucket too.
Esa es de mi pueblo urnieta es un pueblo del pais vasco españa
Seems like the Basque axes have gone to shit quality wise?
This is an older one which says something
@@MrDesmostylus it seems like recently there are more and more examples of bad quality control in the basque axes
@@MrDesmostylus Implying that they may have had issues for some time now, or that they were never good? Lol
Looks like a fun day. Shame about the Basque.
Think Simon's was a Bison oberharz? Was Ben's blue/cyan chappy a Muller of some sort? Do not recognise Owen's red job...
Yeah mine is a mueller biber canada 1000, fantastic little axe
No the harzer is some random make. Not sure which one. The red one Owen was using is the CT boys axe
Yes, Bison Oberharzer, German axe!
👍👍🙏🙏🙏
Your thumbnail kills me
Owens face is so distorted 🤣
First!
