    NOT A SCAM! If confused ask for help but some people don't know how so they miss out!
    If you make under 40k a year as a single person your monthly payment is Zero a month. Which counts towards an on time payment towards forgiveness. So if you make under 40k for the next 10 years Your payment will be forgiven on the 10th year of your final zero dollar payment regardless of the left over balance. So we'll probably have to apply each year. So currently its good for the next 12 months according to a letter from my provider. If the next year you make more than 40k you'll have the smallest monthly payment.etc.

    Greedy college administrators are the problem. I remember having to pay a massive "technology" fee in my tuition every semester just for a bare bones computer lab that was frankly useless for my degree. My only choice was to use my own computer, and there was no way for me to waive that technology fee if I didn't want to use the computer lab. Rather than forgive debt, we need to focus on making tuition costs reasonable - especially for public universities where they're SUPPOSED to be affordable.

Just because you don't understand how it works, doesn't mean it doesn't work. It's okay to be confused by it. Loans are complicated. Finance is complicated; it's why accountants get paid so much. So, all people do is make part of the interest payment. The government pays for the remaining monthly interest. However, the principal amount will never go down. Since nothing is being applied. At the end of 12, 20 or 25 years, the loanee is give a discharged hefty bill from the IRS to pay taxes on? Is this my understanding?

    • @Kenneth-bm5zr
      @Kenneth-bm5zr 11 месяцев назад +6

      I think the minimum required payment covers interest only. My understanding is that you are expected to pay more than the minimum if you want to see your overall principal amount to decrease. So if your minimum balance is $60, the government will take care of the rest of that months interest and whatever you add to that $60 will be subtracted from the principal. I guess the purpose of the plan is to make interest rates are "less" of a burden.

    • @boredfive3001
      @boredfive3001 5 месяцев назад

      No, it doesn't get rid of your loan either. It just stops payments and interest for up to a year. Then you have to re-new every year. If you have no job at the time you apply then you more than likely pay nothing per month. If you have a job then they base what amount you have to pay based on that income. However your loan still exist either way for the next 20 years or until paid off in full. The only way to get your Student debt canceled is with PSLF which ironically requires employment.

    • @jcbabb2
      @jcbabb2 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@jcbabb2 They "fix" you not having to pay every month for your loan if you can't afford to pay for your loan without it going into deferment, or default thus affecting your credit score. They also "fix" the interest that accrues during this "payment pause". They can't get rid of the loans because opposing political parties not allowing for it. They feel if you opened up a loan then you're obligated to pay it. This is essentially the best they can legally do. You technically speaking don't have to do anything, but the loan will exist for 10+ years. However if you want it gone completely you can always pay it down gradually as intended, pay for it in full, or ask for loan forgiveness.

  • @Ch8t
    @Ch8t Год назад +18

    It is better to pay higher monthly at shorter length of time. They really need to get rid of the interest rates all together. It is horrible interest continually putting on the left over balances as people pay them. Let's say you have $45,000 balance and you just paid $300...and you have $44,700 left but then they add 5.75% interest which is $2,570.75 which is added to the $44,700 totaling $47,270.25...so that $300 didn't even make a dent...balance owe is still increasing. That is how people are unable to pay it off. Yes college administrators are making big money and making people suffering financially. I recommend to all young people not going to University where you need to take a loan. Don't do it. Find a trade or University that you can pay off within less than a year...like $1000-$3000.

    • @user-zd8zs3rl6d
      @user-zd8zs3rl6d Год назад +5

      Interest is an Annual Percentage Rate (APR), so your math is wrong.
      Divide your $2,570.75 by 12 and you’ll be closer.
      E.g., 5.75% APR on a $45k loan would accrue $2,587.50 / 12 = $215.63 of interest for a month. So if you make a $300 payment, $84.37 would go towards principal. Yes, this still sucks. But you need to correctly calculate how much it sucks. 😄

      It is corrupt. If your parents tell you to go to school and fill out your paperwork and you're left with debt you didn't know about when you leave school then who's fault is it? Doesn't matter because you would bare the burden. Not everyone chooses to take out a loan nor does everyone choose to be unemployed.

    This is a scam. Before SAVE my payment was $130 (and that was the lowest amount of ALL the plans). Now it's $300. I make $160 a WEEK. And none of my payment will go towards the principle balance, just the interest. It's only if I can't afford to pay ALL the $300 that the gov will be "generous" and pay the rest of the INTEREST, but not the principle. And that's not mentioning how CONFUSING they still make it all sound to the point where people have to go to social media to get answers from people who DONT work for the government or even the student aid facilities! It's the blind leading the blind out here while the american gov just dicks us around!

      That doesn't check out. When I was making 50k a year mine got dropped from 124 a month total to 88 a month with the newest plan. I make 65% more now and mine still doesn't exceed 300 a month. You need to call your loan issuer.

      Obvious lie and anyone can verify this by checking out the SAVE estimate calculator. They also tell you again what your new payments will be prior to enrolling. Are you that disgruntled you spend time trying to harm other people who could benefit from this program? Pretty pathetic.

      Only thing I was confused on FASA didn't mention the 10yrs. I thought theyl was taken the reduction off the top, leaving us with a lower a balance.

    Its funny that people are mad about this. You "BORROWED" the money and I am sure most people took and spent the stipend that was left over to buy stuff. Don't borrow and you won't owe. Borrow "ONLY" what you need. Find out what you can pay back and be faithful doing it and you will be fine.

      I understand your point. But going to school is expensive and things add up quickly and most people have to work and go to school just to get by so I don’t think it’s the point of borrowing what you need if you don’t have it you just dont.

      @@jasminenicole34 Exactly! Yes school is expensive but it is still a choice. I obtained my masters and a doctorate with having a full-time job. It was hard but I paced myself, borrowed what needed and paid it back over time. Not everyone can say that but there are more people who can help themselves verses those who used it as income or decided not to work out a plan after they graduated. They will allow as low as $5 per month. The problem is, people wait to late, never investigate or read the terms, then complain when it piles up. Thanks for your comment.

      @sounddoctrine6159 the point is society benefits from having educated citizens that in turn have higher wages , pay higher taxes and less of a burden on it's social structure. Why make it nearly impossible for the majority to receive a higher education without being in outrageous debt that takes decades to pay back?

      @@oreosk8ter My payment quadrupled on SAVE and after years of affordable payments in REPAYE. I had to switch to another IDR plan to get my payments affordable. SAVE only works for unemployed or totally broke with huge balances. If you are making an honest living and owe less than 20K SAVE plan actually makes things much worse.
