  • Providing consent and approval on the 2024-25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form is a requirement for federal student aid eligibility.
When you and your contributors provide consent and approval on the FAFSA form, you agree to
    - share your personally identifiable information provided on the form with the IRS,
    - have your federal tax information transferred directly into the form,
    - allow the U.S. Department of Education (ED) to use the information to determine your eligibility for federal student aid,
    - allow ED to share your federal tax information with schools and state higher education agencies, and
    - allow ED to reuse federal tax information on other FAFSA forms you’re invited to.
The 2024-25 FAFSA form is available for students attending college between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025. When you submit your completed FAFSA form, you’ll get an email confirming that we received your form with preliminary information related to your eligibility for federal student aid. We’ll provide your FAFSA eligibility information to your school(s) and state in the first half of March. More information: StudentAid.gov/announcements-...
Pro tip: We strongly recommend that students start and complete their section of the 2024-25 FAFSA form first to save time and prevent errors. For more tips on completing the form head to StudentAid.gov/announcements-...

what do we do if our contributor isn't receiving anything on the 'my activity' section of their fafsa account so that they can give their consent to submit?

I might be confused so what I'm hearing is that if one of my parents (someone I don't live with, haven't received financial help since I was a teen, not depended on) refuses to give their info, I'm screwed?

No, you just need info for one parent, not both if you can't.

@FederalStudentAid, is this video (What Does It Mean to Provide Consent & Approval on the 24-25 FAFSA Form?) available in Spanish? What about the other videos in this playlist? It would be extremely helpful to be able to share them with Spanish-speaking students & families. Thank you!

I'm 22 and my parents refuse to do any of this stuff cause they don't trust the goverment etc etc so should I even try if it is just going to list me as a dependent and then when I ask them they say no i just wasted my time?

For me they never had this page that asked for consent of the FTI. Is there a way I could check?

I was in the middle of completing the parent contributor portion of the FAFSA form and was saving each page in the process. I logged out and when logged back in, the form was not there and under my activity menu, I just see that the form is submitted and is in review. I neither completed nor signed the form. What's wrong?

My parents usually provide their signatures through the mail. Is mailing their signatures still an option and am I still eligible for fafsa?

Apparently not anymore, I always use that method but for some reason their not doing it this year. Which is pretty ridiculous.

What if the contributor has "missing approval" listed on their information, thus not allowing them to provide a signature. The contributor has put in all tax information, signed in, clicked "accept" but it's still listing it as "missing approval". I'm so confused how to complete this.

I'm having a similar issue, but in the student section instead of the contributor. I clicked "Accept" and was able to submit the form, but the confirmation email I received is saying that my consent has not been provided yet. Apparently I need to wait for the form to process and then provide consent on a new transaction...

Same here. We applied under my son’s account, after he signed, got an email that parent sign and consent not recd and could not assign SAI. Application automatically went to “review”. Email said have to wait till it is processed for parent to consent and sign. Nowhere during the application process did I see the area for parent to sign and consent. This one is worse than the one prior!

How would my situation work for my children, I have been in a divorce for 2 1/2 years (not final yet coming late 2024, separated for 2 1/2 years) and the other side does not communicate with us. I did file my taxes last year as head of household 2022. My child is expected to go to university fall 2024.

    • @Quirkyhndl
      @Quirkyhndl 7 месяцев назад +2

There are exemptions you can ask for if needed, but I assume in your situation that you file your taxes separately, so you shouldn't need to worry about it anyway. It really just looks at the household.

Since it verifies your identity, I don't think you CAN have a second account. There should a place in your account to handle the parental stuff once you put in your kid's info. I think they need to create an account first, though.

independent status: any active duty or reserves personnel on orders, Veterans, or people age over 24. age does not matter if you are in the military.

This video is useless. It only tells you what it means, not what a parent should be doing or expect.
