There are not many things more entertaining than watching a power running back truck over a defender. This list will highlight the biggest bruisers at both the fullback and running back position. These are some of the biggest running backs in NFL history who inflicted a serious amount of pain and misery over their career. These are the top 10 power running backs in NFL history. Спорт
Earl Campbell was in a class by himself! Even Jim Brown was amazed by Earl's power. Bettie is a good back but Earl is a legend!
Me to
He is also a legend and the true is that the top 3 should be tied on 1st place
Earl Campbell used to take on linebackers head on and make them see stars. His jersey would rip at times with guys hanging off of him. Dude was an absolute monster!
Facts
I believe that Bettis is a better all-around running back, but as far as power,I don't think that ANYONE beats Campbell. I would switch those two's places, and switch out Bo Jackson for Larry Csonka.
My personal favorite is Earl Campbell. And Christian okoye should definitely be higher. The Nigerian nightmare was a beast
ThatBoyPlayz probably would have been higher if Steve Atwater didn’t put him on his ass
ThatBoyPlayz he was a decade before I was born but I’ve seen enough film to know...he was one bad son of a bitch bro. That guy was an absolute savage. That one play of him tanking full steam downfield putting his head right through one of the Rams defenders dropping the guy & taking off even further and having one of them then grab and rip off his jersey as he’s carrying the rock and he didn’t slow down for even half a step. Lmao. Total and utter destruction. The Tyler Rose was a force of Nature 🌹
Didn't play long enough
Was a beast until Steve Atwater!!!!
@@nolenwestfall6480 it’s hard to statistically compare players from the modern era with those decades ago
I was expecting Larry Czonka to be on this list
I was thinking the same thing
Definitely should have had Csonk over OJ. Simpson wasn’t a power runner… not even part time
Different category. Top 10 monsters maybe
OJ was good but wasn’t a Power back… he was a speed/agility pack… he avoided the tackler rather than running them over.
Earl Campbell is def no.1 on this
How on earth could you leave out Larry Csonka, Brandon Jacobs, Mike Alstott, John Henry Johnson, & Marion Motley off this list of Top 10 power backs of all time.
Alstott was a fkn truck. Def should have been on this list.
Alstott was a powerhouse with great lateral movement. One of the best ever for a short time for sure
WTF, No Mike Alstott
He was good...not in the same class as these guys???
OJ Simpson was NOT a power back.
David Rodriguez
I’m a little late to the party here, but before I even pressed play, I was thinking Alstott has to be #1. When he didn’t even make the list, I was like What?!! No Alstott?!!! He was awesome!
Michael Mohler are you on crack he was better than an of these guy once he got the ball there was no stopping him
David Rodriguez Exactly they should be ashamed
Bettis, Are you kidding me, Hands down Big Earl#1
I never saw OJ Simpson as a power runner. I saw him more like Tony Dorsett rather than Marshawn Lynch. Just my opinion.
Also Walter Payton is not considered a power back either. He had power in his game but when I think of power back so I think of Jerome Betti, Earl Campbell, John Riggins, etc
Larry Csonka
Yeah Walter was just very strong but for his size but he's not technically a power back
His running style made him a power back. More than Adrian Peterson.
I always believed a power back is the guy that the whole stadium knows you're going to give it to on the one and nobody can stop him. I say Lynch never got his chance, and Peterson and Simpson have both been stuffed in similar situations but I have seen Payton slam his way into the end zone a lot, although he seems to be better known for jumping over the top. I'd say he fits the bill but that's just me.
@@daganjones5854 he should have been number 1 but I guess its because he is a fullback
I guess I'm not clear on the definition of power back, because I was expecting Mike Alstat to be in here.
wasn't he a FB
TC Roland unfortunately he was a FB. one of the best but wouldn't fit in this video for the sole reason of his position
Alstott up the gut!
Brett Westerfield Christian okoye was a fullback too
To Craig Smith, Mike Alstot often lined up at Tailback in the I formation and as a single back, if he was a fullback then so was John Riggins who spent more time blocking in his career than Alstot. If Riggins is eligible for the list then so is Alstott. Alsot wasn't even the best power back of his generation though.
In his prime, which was only about 3 or 4 seasons, Earl Campbell was the best RB I've ever seen.
The criterion for this list is POWER running back. So I can’t see how anyone ranks ahead of Earl Campbell.
OJ Simpson? He was definitely not a power back!
OJ Simpson was More like a Half back
I bleed purple but AP shouldn’t have been here OJ either alstott should have replaced one of those guys
Larry Czonka was better by far and a true power back though admittedly OJ was faster
@@MarkLee-so4oo Czonka was THE power back......
Czonka was
Earl Campbell should be #1. Hands down!
Absolutely
No Question!
Reflex_TNP heck no. He didn’t have 70’s Steelers to play.
B
Hands up i disagree bo Jackson my cousin
Ronnitria Whit no he just had speed and when he was going so fast it would make I him hit hard. Earl would through 3 players on one team all at once and do it 5 times in one game. Earl once had to play the hardest defense ever (70’s Steelers) to stay in the playoffs. The final score was 3 to 13 and they lost. Legendary cornerback Mel Blount who is top 3 corners ever had this to say about Earl, “If earl stayed in that game then we would of lost.” And that’s literally against the hardest defense that any one will ever have to face.
Jerome Bettis was 3 triple cheese burgers from being a o-lineman
Lol
Haha haha true true
I would disagree with this list as older stars are underrepresented. Some considerations include: Bronco Nagurski, Larry Czonka, John Henry Johnson and Marion Motley.
No Csonka? Great list and video regardless.
oj on the list and not csonka wow crazy
Yeah this is wacked. Csonka first that comes to mind. Then there is Franco. And Newhouse with Dallas.Bettis over Jim and sweetness.WOW!👊
this dude has no clue about shit. and is not NFL affiliated. another shit list
#29 but no Earl?
@@labrinejames3217
Yeah...No Earl?
Earl Campbell dished out pain and pain and more pain! And fast to!!!!!!!!!!! My #1
Alstat. Czonka. George.
Jake Dillon Alstat was an official fullback
that's why they did not put him in
Same with czonka he was a fullback
NY GIANTS Lover but he also played some running back for the dolphins
@@williamknapp4492 So was Jim Brown.
Earl Campbell #1. But I heard about Marion Motley of 50s Cleveland Browns. He was a battering ram and also had a higher avg per run than Jim Brown.
Brandon Jacobs, Steven Jackson, Jamaal Lewis, Michael Turner , Rudi Johnson,Marion Barber,Thomas Jones,Deuce McAllister we're some of my favorite power backs
excellent list. Jamal Lewis and Michael Turner would battering rams
Maurice Saunders allnthosenguys you named were good, not great.
Understood. but my opinion was that they were some of ""my"" favorite power backs
Maurice Saunders Tru dat. point taken.
means
Be sure to comment on who you think deserves or doesn't deserve to be on this list! Also please like this video and subscribe for more. Thanks!
o.j killed people.. plz
NFL Top Ten Emmet Smith
NFL Top Ten I get where you're coming from with Bo Jackson but when you factor in how fast the man was, I feel that he was more of a balanced back that could do it all. Same goes for Adrian Peterson and Jim Brown.
#22 CB for saints had a chance to make the tackle for a second time on the play against Marshawn Lynch, but after being stiff armed to the ground he completely gave up...no heart
Brandon Jacobs
Larry Czonka , Jim Taylor , Bronco Nagurski
All of the people who are asking where Ladainian Tomlinson and Barry Sanders clearly didn't read the title. This isn't best running backs, this is best power backs. LT and Barry Sanders were more known for speed and agility
and evasiveness.....
no disrespect to Jerome or Jim but this list is top ten power running backs not top ten running backs Earl Cambell should be no.1 and Walter shouldn't even be on this list and where is Larry zconka
Earl has no stats to be considered the best anything.
Edward Salas Agee
OJ Simpson shouldn't be on the list either
MIKE ALSTOTT DEFINITELY DESERVES TO BE ON HERE
Exactly who I was thinking, horrible list
Greatest RB where playing in 90's and early 2000. This list is just being respectful to the history of NFL. Jamal Lewis, Priest Holmes, Larry Johnson, Ricky Williams, and Ricky Watters etc. are just a few that could be ranked above anyone of these guys
Jamal Lewis was one of the best ever! 295 yd game and 2066yd season.
Whaaaaaat!!! Damn like the list not sure if I love the list.
where is Marion Motley ?????
& Jim Thorpe? How about Hoyle Granger?
Now that's a good question.
And Bronco Naguski?
Didnt you realize there was nobody before 1970!! That is why these lists are bogus! Jim Brown,Earl and sweetness could light up todays NFL and thats why they are my top 3. Honestly Sweetness was more an all around back but would rather hit you than run out of bounds so he barely qualifies as a power runner to me!!
Jim Brown is always always listed as the best Rb of all time, or #2. Many people say he is the GOAT of all football players. I have never seen Bettis even ranked in the top 10 of all time. Yet he is #1 here?
It's a list of power backs. Brown, Simpson and Payton don't even belong on this list, because they had a more complete style. Power backs just run people over, those guys could do it all. That's the only reason Bettis is listed as #1 here. All 3 of them were better overall players than he was, but as a pure power runner, he's arguably number one. My top 3 power backs would be Bettis, Campbell, and Csonka, probably in a 3 way tie for first place.
Jim Brown was the greatest of all time; not only as a power runner but overall. Nobody else averaged 5.2 ypc for their career. Nobody else averaged over 100 yards per game for their career. Nobody else played 9 years as the biggest target on the field and never missed a game. The only year he didn't lead the league in rushing he played the entire season with a broken wrist; still finished 2nd. Also a great receiver. I know the kids will say he was playing against grocery clerks, but nobody has ever dominated the game the way he did. Feel fortunate to have grown up watching him on TV every Sunday.
Steve Atwater - In a recent interview said that the rb who was the biggest pain in the neck to play against was Marion Butts, when Denver played San Diego! He mentioned Okoye, though.
WHERE IS MIKE ALSTOTT!!!
Full back
Adrian Peterson is a better runninback overall than Lynch but Lynch is a better power runninback by far than AP
Daniil Cherneychuk you right AP isn't power, but he is better overall. You are the only smart person in the comments
Give me 5 reasons why Beastmode is a better power back than AP, other than the fact that he ran through that shit Saints defense.
@@DDDog ....damn straight. Saints defense was in nympho-mode.....couldnt help but give it up.
This is awesome! I know it's way too early, but Nick Chubb is one who is sneaky strong (see Philadelphia LB getting stiff armed into oblivion) and hopefully will be up there one day.
We’re talking power backs so Pete Johnson is a pretty serious omission. He was pretty much in the mold of Bettis and Campbell.
I like when Christian Okoye went head to head with Steve Atwater.
Brett Hulett lol that was amazing
Brett Hulett and lost! That was the end of the Nightmare.
Akill Allah its funny as hell how people remember that single play. Then forget the other 2 or 3 times okoye completely trucked atwater
Akill Allah naw go see his footbsll life he ran over atwater many times it just wasn’t on national tv
Dude it was one game okay he ran over him a lot of times
Where is Larry Csonka, he should be top 3 not to mention John Riggins at 10, he’s top 5 all day
Bo Jackson - what an athlete - he makes it on the list of power runners. He makes it on the list of speedsters. He makes it on the list of kick returners. And then there's that baseball HOF thing as well.
Like your videos. Love that you show replays and multiple plays....but maybe work on balanced sound editing. I also really like how you show the "sports card" intro. Maybe drop a sweet sound or effect in that intro. When it goes dead silent it is a bit jarring. But more importantly, what about Mike Allstot and Jerome Bettis!?
Appreciate the input. I'm re-working my style accordingly.
gotta disagree with a couple of things. Jim Brown should have been #1 and iron head Heyward and Natron Means should have been on the list.
I agree
Brown wasn't a power back though. He was a complete back. He definitely had power, but he could beat you any way he chose to. To me a power back is a guy who isn't usually gonna outrun you, or make people miss. Brown is the the GOAT, with Payton as an arguable alternative. But neither belongs on this particular list.
Where's Mike alstott
I know I’m old but this IS supposed to be the top 10 power backs of all time. Have any of you ever heard of Cookie Gilcrist? Between roughly 1959 to about 1966 Cookie was something to behold. At 6’4” and 270 lbs he was absolutely unstoppable. There were very few linemen who could trip him up at the line of scrimmage and when he broke through it took a very brave linebacker or d-back to get in front of him. At the time the saying was “Lookie, lookie here comes Cookie”. Worst of all Cookie really liked hurting people and he made no bones about it. The league is near 100 years old. Next time do a little more historical research.
Very great list....wish I saw maybe csonka or Alstott
No Eddie George??? BS top 8 at least!
Ayeee im a steelers fan, was waiting to see Jerome at #1
Campbell's play against the Rams is just awe-inspiring.
And also when Jack Tatum had the angle and the speed on him and clocked him at the goal line, Earl stopped put him down, and then walks in for the TD. If all of they guys on that list were Mac Trucks, Earl Campbell is the last guy I'd want to stand in front of.
Jamal Lewis didn’t make this list?! Wow most underrated 2k RB. All power
How is rigging not top five
Riggins
How in the world could you put Bettis over Jim Brown. Bettis May have been big, but he never broke as many tackles as Brown, Campbell, Lynch, Alstot, Riggins and many other backs. To be honest, Bettis was more of a slasher than powerful. All because you are a big back, doesn't mean you are the most powerful, especially in Bettis case.
Jim should be 1
Bettis trucked more people
But no one bulldozed people like the bus
Daily Gospel yea not at fucking all.... he shouldn't even be on this list lol. clearly a steeler fan
He's the 🚌 Duh
Where’s Larry Csonka? He definitely should be on this list, especially with a perfect season and Super Bowl win.
Everybody on here seems to forget about Eddie George. Eddie was a beast.
Some of these guys, OJ, AP not really power backs. Csonka not on the list? This must have been compiled by a youngster! Bettis is great but not number 1.
I can’t believe you got OG Simpson over Mike Alstott & Eddie George, Or Iron Head Mike. Even Michael Turner or Brandon Jacobs. Like Who Made This List 😭🤦🏾♂️
No terrel Brandon
lets be fair it was a good list. OJ was only real error. Jim Brown before my time but he is known as a bad ass tough dude so I can accept that. your omissions are great next level guys. I watched Iron head Heyward at U of Pitt. wow! but anyway ALWAYS has to be EARL CAMPBELL #1. maybe Csonka & Herschel Walker can join your guys in the top 20
Earl Campbell Hands down!
Agree Bettis is the best. The years people forget is when he first got to Pittsburgh. He was a dominant back at that time and ridiculous taking on 8/9 man fronts and still getting 100 yard games with no passing game.
Jamal lewis???
Franco Harris?
Franco? Half speed/half power...
Okoye was a beast in Tecmo Bowl couldn't tackle him when he was an excellent
Jamal Lewis ,Bettis,E .George.The glory POWER Rb days
No Mike Alstat?
Craig Smith He was official a full back, but he didn't just run on short gain plays. The bucs would play him 1st and 10 or 4th and long. He was more of a power back.
Jim Brown was officially a Fullback, the guy who made the list is just dumb
Fullback is a running back smart one
Craig Smith A full back is a running back
Lukas Willaert yea but a running back refers to both Fullback and halfback
So no Ricky Williams or Brandon Jacobs but you got OJ and Sweetness?
Both solid Backs but neither played long enough or were anywhere NEAR consistent enough in my opinion. Bo's career was cut short by injury as well and maybe was gifted a spot.
Sweetness gets my vote. That said I do believe Chuck Muncie belongs on here as well.
I love THe Bus Bettis and Steven Davis from my Redskins.
No question earl campell number 1
first one hah
L
Jim Brown, Earl Campbell, Larry Czonka, Pete Johnson, Mike Alstot, Walter Payton, Christen Okoya are my favorite power backs in this order
He didn't have the legendary career of some of the guys on the list. But as a Giants fan my fav power runner was Brandon Jacob's. Dude was so underrated as a power back.
Adrian Peterson is not a better power running back than marshawn lynch
Exeter428 GTA 5 for real lol
Exeter428 GTA 5 yeah wtf
Exeter428 GTA 5 yes he is
Exeter428 GTA 5 AP is the definition of power. He is how all running backs should be.
You damn right
what happened to Larry Szonka. The original power back. All he did was run over people. O.J. Simpson wasn't a power back at all. Who came up with this list.
To me a power back is breaking a lot of tackles. O.J. was way ahead of his time and slashed through his competition.
You reply to a guy asking where LT is saying he didn't qualify your definition of power back, but he broke more tackles than AP. Not to mention where's Emmitt Smith and the A-Train? They were the original beast quakes, Emmitt vs. the Falcons and Mike vs. the Browns.
Meh Productions Sanders fell backwards 99% of the time. How is he qualified to make this list? He was like 5"8' and 180 pounds he couldn't truck for shit
Trucking is hitting someone and them failing to tackling you, in other words "Broken Tackles"
Jucking is making them miss you, "Forced missed tackles"
The 99% is just an estimation, but I'd say it pretty accurate since Sanders wasn't the biggest of guys. The was fast I'll give him that.
OJ played between 215-220 lbs. He was a power back with speed.
I remember the announcers talking about Christian Okoye and saying that he can get hit at the line but always falls forward for five yards. Dude was a first down machine. The announcers should have just gotten in the habit of saying: "Second down and five. The ball is handed off to Okoye. First down. Move the chains." You could have said that every time.
I guess for honorable mention we can include Robert Newhouse Natron means and Eddie George and maybe Marion Barber
These are some of the worst lists I've seen on yt I mean y'all put Bo low for Bo and even Marshawn was low
#1walter payton
I love all these guys. Not sure if i agree with the order..
Although Bettis has compiled a worthy NFL HOF career that includes multiple Pro Bowl selections and a Super Bowl XL ring, placing him in front of Jim Brown (career yards per rush average, 5.2 versus Bettis' 3.9); Earl Campbell (eighth highest regular-season rushing performance in NFL history at 1,934); and "Sweetness" Payton (outgained The Bus' career rushing total of 13,662 yards by more than 3000 yards with 16,726 even though both power backs played 13 years each) is hard to label as reasonable. Also, both Brown and Payton were former career rushing leaders, a meaningful milestone absent from Bettis' career.
UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUH FALSE BEASTMODE IS THE AT LEAST NUMBER FOUR
AND AP IS NOT BETTER THAN HIM
THE GOAT I disagree
Yes he is.
Bruh he was so overhyped he wasn't an all timer to begin with
Lynch was never named rookie of the year, adrian was named rookie of the year and was name NFL MVP of 2012 not to mention he is the greatest Vikings player of all time and greatest runningback of all time
D. J. Dozier?
Were is berry sanders
POWER running back
Fella's, fella's, look at the category.............POWERBACK! Sanders, Simpson, Peterson were all speedsters. Where's Pete Johnson?
Nite Train Lane, Joe Perry?
Woodrow Magnus. Is this a joke? Night Train Lane was a corner and Perry was a defensive tackle.
You have got to be being sarcastic
Where is Herschel Walker
Alstott, Heyward, Nagurski, Csonka, Motley, Ameche, Nance, Van Buren, Tank Younger, John Henry Johnson, Bill Brown, Jim Taylor and Jamal Lewis...
...just a thought...
Jim Brown made the other players look like high school kids. Earl Campbell had at least two linebackers keyed on him every play but he still got the yardage. Those two are in a class all by themselves.
Even as a steeler fan I dont believe Jerome bettis is the best power back in NFL history
William Andrews - "In his prime, Andrews was regarded as arguably the most bruising, powerful running back in the NFL. Ronnie Lott would later state that a head-on collision he had with Andrews during a game on December 19th 1982 was the hardest hit that he had received during his NFL career." - Wikipedia
In no order and without watching or seeing this list, mine are:
1. Bronco Nagurski
2. Jim Brown
3. Larry Csonka
4. Earl Campbell
5. Jim Taylor
6. Mike Alstott
7. Jerome Bettis
8. John Riggins
9. Marion Motley
10. Christian Okoye
@1983jblack.., now that's a powerback list, not the bs posted
I am and always will be a steelers fan but I think of power backs like czonka, Mike alstott, and by far not a cowboy fam but a very underated walt garrison. Just a few as some of the backs in the list here were indeed great but not what I think of when I think power. And if they are thinking steelers what about Franco, he was indeed power.
I was gonna say Walt Garrison, but I thought they'd laugh me off of here. He wasn't big, but he never stopped...and I'm not a Cowboy fan either...
Christian Okoye in pads looks like a delivery van coming at you. Doesn't look that fast, but how do you tackle a delivery van?
I like the bus, I also like the a train. Szonka should be on there too. Campbell probably number one.
I just transitioned from lineman to running back / receiver
if this is based on power and not overall player, then i agree for the most part
If I were putting together a team in the late 70s, I think I would spend most of my money on Riggins and Campbell and just give them the ball on alternate plays. Can you imagine having to defend against a team like that? You could juice it up by telling them if they both get 100 yards, they each get a rack of ribs after the game.
Where’s Larry Czonka
Walter steam rolled defenders twice as long as Campbell...and he did it without an offensive line. He's the Best!
The only reason for the disparity in longevity is because Earl Campbell ran the ball every play and it took a toll on his longevity. Payton ran around guys more than through them like Campbell. Thus the nickname "Sweetness".
What is the name of the piece of music they play with Jim Brown?
Riggins should had been atleat top 5 in this list of POWER backs
Jamal Lewis and Mike Alstott were freaskish power backs and deserve to be on this list.
So many people not realizing this is a POWER RUNNING BACK list. So many comments of "Where's LaDainian Tomlinson? Where's Barry Sanders? Where's Emmitt Smith? Where's Mike Alstott?"
Don’t know how many times I’ve seen the Jackson/Bosworth encounter ..Boz didn’t get low enough ..and he’s now embedded in history as the all time Jackson doormat ..😎
I know, while obvi its true Bo got the better of the exchange in the context. If it were on the 50 yard line it would have been a good stoppage on Bo for only a couple yards gain. Also Bo had one direction where boz came from another angle and had to switch directions on top of your point that he hit high instead of low. PPL give Boz so much shit for it but it really wasn't a big deal if not for his big mouth (which is what it's really about) and the fact it was on the goal line.
Boz played hurt with a bad shoulder his entire NFL career. The Bo TD is way over hyped as a seminal play.
#TogetherEvery1AchievesMore #TEAM
I'm a huge bus fan, but c'mon, Earl needs to be at the top spot.
Is there any doubt that if Bo Jackson lasted another 5+ yrs he would be the GOAT power rusher? He had the power of Riggins & Okoye, yet once in the open was faster than any cornerback trying to catch him. He was a once-in-a-lifetime talent.
