This list is accounting for both the best punt returners as well as best kick returners in NFL history. These NFL returners are ones that will likely be inked into the record books forever with some even earning Hall of Fame honors. While the majority of these players did not find much of a career in the NFL outside of returning, they still made a tremendous impact for their teams including at some points in their career game winning punt or kick return touchdowns. These are the top 10 best punt and kick returners in NFL history. Спорт
Whether you love or hate this list, comment on who you think was too high or too low on this list! Also feel free to comment on what list to do next!
Uuuuuuum cordarrelle paterson
NFL Top Ten you realize Deion Sanders played for the Falcons for the majority of his career right? I'm saying this cuz you have his team as the Cowboys
NFL Top Ten instead of tyreek hill it should be Ted Ginn Jr and Cordarelle Patterson should be in top 5
NFL Top Ten days ago
Tyrek hill shod be number one
Havent even watched it yet, Devin Hester better be number 1 though.
You on something donate hall had Jukes but devin Hester had kickers scared to kick to him he got more tds and yard
Exactly I was expecting the same thing
@Marcus Mitchell - Hester changed the game! He would have had even more TDs but teams started kicking it out of bounds instead of risking a TD.
On several occasions, if the opposing team was winning by more than a field goal but less than a TD with a minute or two left in the game, they would kick the ball out off bounds on the kickoff. They would rather give the ball to the offense on the 40 than risk him running it back.
@Marcus Mitchell you need to remove your bias, its really not even close. We are talking about who is the "best returner". Hall had 642 returns and scored 12 tds. So he averaged about 1 td every 53 times he returned. Hester had 32 less returns (610) but scored 7 MORE TDS (19). Hester averaged 1 TD every 32 returns. That's literally almost twice as good as Hall (40% more likely to score a td per return). I know you may like Hall better (and you can make the argument he is a better overall player), but he is not even close to Hester when it comes to return ability.
Same thing I was thinking
Cordarrelle Patterson has a record that will never be beat: a 109 yard return. 110 yards and you're out of the back of the endzone. And that's just one of many great returns for him. We wish him well in Oakland.
And another Viking, Marcus Sherels , ain't too shabby, either.
Eric Metcalf had 10 punt returns for TDs and 2 kick returns for TDs. Clearly better than several on this list.
Agreed, and his Dad, Terry was a pretty special return guy too.....
Good list....gonna have to agree with dude on Eric Metcalf though. Honorable Mention....Tamarick Vanover
Morehouse man!
How come Eric Metcalf is always left out 12 return TD’s.
YES SIR U RITE RYAN
Please watch E Metcalf film Seattle's finest
Your right! Cleveland Browns! What about his dad with the Cardinals? The St Louis ones?
Eric Metcalf
Because these dude don't know anything about football
No Eric Metcalf no list. Period
I remember Vai Sikahema was like a kamikaze as a kick returner. Straight ahead at full speed.
When I saw him at 2:44 it reminded me of him. Wasn't he the guy who punched the goalpost?
NO DOUBT
@@brianmartin3084 SURE WAS
Being a Raiders fan through the 70s and 80s , I remember getting nervous everytime we had to kick or punt to Rick Upchurch from Denver. He could do some damage. He was an outstanding receiver, too. Also, what about Abe Woodson from the 49ers. It's ancient history, but his numbers were incredible !!!
Rick upchurch is my grandpa! I came to comment him he became one of (if not the) best returner during his era
ERIC METCALF
And his Father Terry.
No sh*t!
The fact that Eric Metcalf is not on this list makes it completely irrelevant.
Terry, I forgot about him, he was a very good returner. Played for the Browns.
Beings how he owned the punt return td record before Hester means he’s top 10 no doubt. 12 total kick returns for tds, 10 being punts. Top 10.
You might have a point there ...
Yeah you 👉are 👉👤✔right
THANK YOU!! his pops should be on here too
Metcalf for sure
You missed several! Greg "Do It" Pruitt (Cleveland Browns). Nolan "Super Gnat" Smith (KC Chiefs, 1960s). "Rapid Transit" Travis Williams (Packers). "World's Fastest Human", Bob Hayes. Charley Taylor. Leon Washington. Jacoby Jones. DeSean Jackson. Ted Ginn, Jr. And of course, Eric Metcalf.
It's impossible to include all those legends though! I tried to make it as based on in-game speed as possible. I didn't want to include track guys who's speed didn't translate too well with pads on.
Travis Williams from the early 70's Packers should be somewhere on this list
skip number 1, you already know who it is.
I know some people say "Hester was just a good return man on special teams and mediocre WR" but literally the best return man the game has ever seen... completely changed the game. People who are not bears fans don't remember how basically every team would kick out of bounds and give the bears the ball at the 40 just to keep away from Hester
should have Eric Metcalf
They don't? What? Lol. He's on the list of like 5 all time great return men that I thought of off the top of my head. Lol.
Hester, Hall, Howard, Gray and Metcalf lol
I remember watching Dante Hall in his prime. He was insane. Terrifying to play against. I had forgotten about him though by this point, so nice to see him on this list.
only me u and one other person in these whole comments remember Dante hall wtf
I'm a Ravens fan, so I remember him mainly because he had an insane kick return against us early in his career, and it put him on my radar. He fell off the map quickly though unfortunately, but you can't forget what he did in that 4 year stretch between 2002 and 2005, when he was the best return guy in the game. Right before Hester entered the league, he was the guy.
Human Joystick
Devin Hester was exactly where he supposed to be number 1
Guess you never saw Eric Metcalf
Pedro Custodio shut yo ass up Hester da goat
yea its not close. Hester, Sanders, Hall. thats yo top 3
over Primetime and Sayers?
you must be joking;
vettevet2002 you most be smoking crack if you think deon is better than Hester at returns he broke his record for a reason
Devin Hester is the best of all time. Even when he gets older he's still the best on the seahawks did you see what he did to the falcons his old team
Damian Sanchez bullshit I believe Deion Sanders is the best EVER!!!
Black Jesus sanders has bowed out and said hester is the greatest, so stop that
Walkingbomb 412 HE HAD TO SAY THAT, HE WAS DEVIN MENTOR.. JUST BECAUSE YOU SAY SHIT DOESNT ALWAYS MEAN YOU MEANT THAT SHIT... I TELL MY WIFE ALL THE TIME " she's a better driver then me.... do I mean it???? HELL NAW
Black Jesus stop lying to your wife son
Walkingbomb 412 WE ALL Embellish, The point is Dion Sanders was his mentor he looked up to him as a father figure, Deion isn't going to crush this kid dreams and say" Naw I was way better then Hester was".. DEION EVEN SAID HIS SORRY ASS SON DEION Jr was a ATHLETE THEN HE WAS😂😂
Dante hall was probably one of the smoothest runners on this list. His cut moves were sooo smooth and he had this style/graciousness running the ball and also acceleration made notice
RIGHT FREAKING ON. 👊👌👍✊
Dante Hall should be #2
thank you atleast someone else fuxkin remembers
Adam Varilek I still got his jersey from when I was like 12 with a Priest Holmes. Just coped a Eric Berry jersey and the first game I wear it he tears his ACL fml
Naww it Was Sanders Mf Record until Devin Broke it
@@sammyb3854 Yup! I was lucky enough to be at every Falcons home game when he played for them . I was just a kid, & he was my favorite player growing up. Before a lot of the games, during warm ups, he would take a lap around the stadium and give every fan that had their hand out a high-five. Pretty cool.
Exactly
Eric Metcalf?
Travis Williams, Green Bay. 1967, two kick returns for a touchdown in one game, four for the season. Averaged 41.1 per return for the season.
Outrageous that Tyreek Hill was included, even just honorable mention after just 1 season
Eric Metcalf should be on this list.
I wish I had been able to see Hester play for the bears. HoF for sure.
Jesus am I really that old? Hester did not play long ago at all LOL
@@themilwaukeebrewerswillnev7545 lmfao nah I was old enough, just never really got into watching football until around the year I commented. Was and still am into the stats more but yeah
How about Nolan Smith, who played for the Kansas City Chiefs 50 years ago? I recall he was about 5'-6", and 150#, but he was exciting. Truly a whirling dervish.
Yeah, that's not obscure or anything, Lawrence.
NFL Top Ten, great video. Glad to see had Mel Grey at #6.
Where’s Eric Metcalf?
Devin Hester was so fast it actually looked like the video was on fast foward!!! DAMN!!!
Windy city flyer he was
Devin Hester, the human highlight reel. Glad they mentioned Gayle "Crazy Legs" Sayers. 6 seasons before injuries ended his career.
do some research so you can at least look like you know something about the game;
Sayers was NOT called ‘Crazy Legs’;
that was Elroy Hirsch, who deserves on this list before Sproles or Hester and certainly before Johnson;
so do Bob Hayes, Len Barney, Eric and Terry Metcalf, to name a few;
but the best returner over them ALL is STILL Gayle Sayers, who was known as the Kansas Komet in the media and just simply ‘Magic’ to his teammates;
Lemme tell you something about your list: A Top-10 Best Return Man List that includes Billy "White Shoes" Johnson, Mel Gray, and "Galloping" Gale Sayers?!? You, sir, are as legitimate as they come!
I mean I remember when the super bowl opening the second half and jacoby finds a hole and goes 108 yards for the super bowl record
game forlife yeah
+game forlife
And Devin Hester makes a kick return for a touchdown on the opener of the super bowl.
sosuke™ no one is debating Devin Hester vs Jacoby Jones, but reasonable people think Jacoby Jones should be on this list.
Aidan Powell
Oh k
Jacoby jones was really good in 2012 maybe up until 2014 but he's faded away he's not as good as he once was after leaving the ravens
Where's Jacoby Jones?
Good one!!!
Exactly he should be#2
Honorable mention for Michael Bates...he was great for my Panthers back in the day
It's going to be between Deion and Hester. Thing to keep in mind, especially for Hester, is teams gameplanned to stop him. In some of these returns, guys have nothing but wide open holes to run through. They weren't being game planned for like Hester was.
Idk if people will roast me but jacoby jones
game forlife he was good
game forlife Hester is the goat
game forlife nah
game forlife Jacoby jones should have bee on here
Jacoby Ford
If Hester isn't #1 I'm unsubbing
23 Savage same he is the best
You're unsubbing because of somebody's SUBJECTIVE opinions? HOW PATHETIC.
George Daugherty Take a joke and stop being soft.....
23 Savage I'm not soft, actually. It's hard to see if anybody's making a joke (you can't tell if it's a joke when reading. Only when in face-to-face conversation).
You need to stop being soft and defensive. Just apologize next time when you do a joke poorly.
George Daugherty anyone who doesn't have Devin Hester as #1 is dumb af look at the stats it's not an opinion
The 49ers Abe Woodson (1958-1964) averaged 29.4 and scored 5 TDs on kickoff returns in his 7 years with SF and 9.0 on punt returns while scoring 2 TDs and was a 5-time Pro Bowl cornerback as well.
It's crazy watching Tyreek Hill, Devin Hester and Mel Gray. When they make their cuts and see open field, it's like they're on fast forward while watching the coverage slip and slide all around them.
1. Where tf is jacoby jones
2. Deion sanders should by #2 no doubt
AlexG 1104 deion is # 1 pimpin
To answer your jacoby jones question just look at some Texans returns highlights when he was there and you will know why he isn't on this list.
Young Privileged be not by
But i agree with you
Prime time (deion sanders) should definitely be 2nd if not 1st
Deion... What no way hes #2 Rod woodson was a better returner and corner..plus Woodson tackled and could hit like a linebacker..
who’s Jacoby Jones?
ever hear of somebody named SAYERS???
So Tyreke Hill was an honorable mention. But Cordarrelle Patterson wasn’t
Thought Terry Metcalf from 1970's Cardinals would make the list, very good return man!
Devin Hester averaged 25 yards a return over his career. That's insane. It's almost better to take the penalty than risk DH taking it to the house. Worthy of #1 ranking.
The bears packers one is crazy, not in terms of missed tackles or anything of that nature. But actually look at the footage, and then look at the game clock. Yes, he was that fast. Devin Hester, you were rediculous.
How there is NO ERIC METCALF, baffles me????!!
I remember as kid watching Eddie Drummond for the Lions in 04. He had two punt returns for TD vs Jaguars in the 4thbquarter to lead a 17-0 comeback to go to OT 17-17. They lost. But following week he had a kickoff return for TD on the opening kickoff vs Minnesota lol. He was in the zone I guess. Lol Had 4 total returns that season since earlier in the year he scored vs Houston
Not saying it belongs on this list though.
Trindon Holliday had "fumblitis", yet did great on those returns that he kept the ball. I agree on #1.
Jacoby jones
Who the fuck is he dum ass
Julius Thompson U dont hear that much about him after his rookie year
Nigga made the longest kick return in Super Bowl history smh
Joe Fucking Flacco #11TDS-0INTS #Joeezy #JoeCool #5 #BetterRecievers hacks
😂😂😂😂
Josh Cribbs was too low in my opinion
Josh Cribbs just decided to drop the ball so he could add a few more yards to his stats 😂😂😂 Dude knew he was going for a TD before the ball got near him
Thank you
I forgot about Cribbs. Smh.
List is good. Would not change
I know he is forgotten in the return world, but Steve Smith Sr was one of the best return men in the early 2000s. He has the highest yard per return average for punts at 51.0 in a game, I believe after multiple punt return yards
How is dion number 4
Hall and Hester. I can't disagree with them at the top.
DEVIN HESTER is the BEST Returner there is in the NFL period.. there shouldnt be any discussion over this subject but thats just my opinion..
Taiafiafi Williams no hes not
I think DHes is the best ever period !!!
wwe Vidz who broke his record?
bball beast Hester is the greatest
Primetime #1
What about Leon Washington he was good enough to at least be an HM
Devin Hester tbe... But Dante Hall that boy was 🔥 too.. these dudes did video game moves on ppl..
How the fuck is trindon holiday not on this list?
King Harambe he was only good for like 1-2 years
Wes Hardin he was good for a while as a kick returner
King Harambe he only had 3 seasons with a punt or kick return TD
Wes Hardin tds dont matter if you give your team good field position. Yes they help but they arent everything
King Harambe well number 10 on the list darren sproles has over 11,000 return yards and holliday has 2,200 total return yards. Why would holliday deserve to be above darren sproles
Hester deserves a statue.
Rick Upchurch Broncos 70s-80s he should be on the list somewhere. Still holding the record for most punt return yards for the broncos franchise
Jacoby Jones was a beast on kick and punt returns
Jacoby jones... And cordarelle Patterson.
Devon Heater needs to go in the hall of fame
He will. He's from THE U
he will. greatest Returnman ever
Who Devon heater?
Who
Jacoby Jones, Alan Rossum, Eric Metcalf,
Eric Metcalf, two punt returns in one game plus many others
tyrek hill should not be on this list, Cordell Patterson or Percy harvin should be on here
Syan Best rookie stats as a returner???? Dude, do you know who Devin Hester is? 6 returns in his rookie season. One was a field goal return...
Honerable mention.... One season doesnt get you on the list. Percy Harvin absolutely deserves the list. Terrible list.
Syan No Cordarrelle did he broke the record
I know right cordell has 7 touchdown from kick offs
@Spited you should be going to LensCrafters for a set of glasses right now.
Yes, you missed former L.A. Rams return man Ron Brown from the mid to late 80's.
I remember him, the Olympic sprinter.
patrick peterson was a beast his rookie year tied Devin Hester but, he's better at corner.
Abe Woodson
49ers 1958-1964
Cardinals 1965-1966
The NFL and the current fans only recognize a few players from back in that era. It seems like many people really have a lack of knowledge about the past greats.
The fellow who said Billy "White Shoes" Johnson was the first great return man obviously doesn't know who Abe Woodson was. Abe Woodson was the first great return man in NFL history. He was far and away #1 in total return yards and average kickoff return yards when he retired. These are two lists that he is still featured on prominently.
you need both Rick Upchurch & Leon Washington on this list. at least as honorable mention.
DAMN RITE IM GLAD SOMEBODY REMEMBERED RICK UPCHURCH HE WAS SPECIAL REAL TALK!
How is Josh Cribbs only 7???
He should be at least top 3. I say hes the G.O A.T. I watch him score multiple return TDs in multiple games!!😳🗣🔥🔥🔥
Nice to see my boy Brian Mitchell at #2
Didn't have time to run through every comment, but Eric Metcalf was the one I didn't see on the list.
Missing DeSean
He still balling, 1000 yard season.
Sam Peskoff FACTS ' had the most season 2 start a career with a PR return TD
He stays hurt. He ain’t played a whole season in years.
Come on man no Eric Metcalf really go do your homework list is incomplete
Damn..some of this guys fast. They could put off the switch and get to bed before the light goes out.
I saw him run 2 back,, one opening ko, in Arrowhead Stadium on a VERY FRIDGED -° weather. Against then sea from AFCW
Cordarrelle Patterson
CpOhNo slept on... Terrifying every time he touches the ball in the open field
Take tyreek tf out and put in Patterson
@@Shahmar 6 years in the league and 7 KR Touchdowns is pretty unreal.
I'd love to see them put him back there as punter.
@@mattnorris7124 Third AND fourth down quick kick RPO out of the wildcat lmao!
2 Words: Travis Williams. Even in his short career he ranks about Hill. Learn
Will the Man .... Travis was good ... very good.
You know check Hershel Walker.... later in his career he seemed to be returning everything down to about the five yd line..... kick off returns... anyone else remember that ???
do a current running back 10 list
I love Hester - da bears aren't good, but he definitely was
OrangeGaming the bears were good in 06
Eric Metcalf... He’s missing from your list!!!
Whoa. Seeing the late Jamie Samuelson in the Mel Gray clip was kind of sad. RIP Jamie!
Thank you for not adding music I hate it when people do that
How is Jacoby Jones not on this list
you missed Desean Jackson
Nah, he will just drop the ball just before entering the end zone.
He should be
He should be disqualified simply for being too stupid.
Allen Rossum and especially Eric Metcalf
I had the most PRs in a 3 year span ' and was a half a toe away from scoring 3 PR TDs in 3 years at New Meadows only ' and i had a bs holding call on a PR TD in my last season of Punt Returning in 2013
Devin Hester is by far the goat return man
Eric Metcalf
Hester changed the game! He would have had even more TDs but teams started kicking it out of bounds instead of risking a TD.
On several occasions, if the opposing team was winning by more than a field goal but less than a TD with a minute or two left in the game, they would kick the ball out off bounds on the kickoff. They were willing to risk giving the ball to the other team on the 40 than risk him running it back.
Agree with most.. Sayers if healthy who knows but don beebe is honorable mention like Mitchell and Gray pick a seam and be fearless
Hester is the goat
Hester is not ven the sheep;
NO ONE comes anywhere close to Sayers;
you missed Jacoby Jones
Hester is without out a doubt the greatest ever, absolutely ridiculous what that kid could do.
Weird that no one has ever had a punt return for a touchdown in the Super Bowl? Desmond Howard and Jermaine Lewis had a combined 17 punt return touchdowns, yet they both had their lone kickoff return touchdown of their career in the Super Bowl.
No Bob Hayes. NO Bob Hayes. NO BOB HAYES. Listen , Junior, do a little homwork. No Bob Hayes. No FREAKING Bob Hayes.
WORD UP
How many TDs, dude?
Deion should be number 2
nope, not enough yards, tds, and he didn't do it long enough. but no mistake, deion was dangerous as hell.
I'm happy sproles is on here :) ever tho he is retiring... the eagles were my fav team XD
